Valid CDkey not reaching ?

Try this

First in the ET console type: /pb_writecfg

This should create a file in your PB folder called “pbcl.cfg”.

open it with notepad, add the line "- pb_cdkeyauto 1 . "

**edit, don’t credit me for this, it was brought to my attention by a fellow clan member ( shrike, he formerly of eQ ). I just thought I’d share it thats all…seems to work! **

I been havin a few connection problems recently, even in browser websites can’t be found etc. And in ET when I try /pb_cdkeyreg it only works sometimes, other times it says failed to resolve the evenbalance address. But any time I do the following and /pb_cdkeyreg successfully I can connect to any server

1/ Delete etkey
2/ Load ET & /pb_cdkeyreg
3/ Join server

I must try the wait 50 thing tho

I update die Punkbuster-Banlist very often (www.pbbans.com), but it’s USELESS, since everybody knows how to delete their keys!

It’s boring, there are many cheats out there, and some of them are also working on pb-enabled-servers, but you -as serveradmin- can’t ban them, because everybody spreads, that “deleting your ETKey” fixes the problem (“Valid CDKey…”), but i tell u something, that’s WRONG.
it doesn’t work, if you delete your key, you are able to join a server (maybe), but if you make a break and join a new server, some hours later, you will get the “Valid CDKey…” Error again!

So, it’s useless to delete your key, and it’s also useless to host a “cheat-free” server…

The problem came before anyone started deleting their etkeys, and that was a potential soltution presented by some people to get around the Valid Key not reaching the Auth server. This was the ONE thing that worked for me. So I don’t know how you can say it doesn’t work?? You say that

That’s true but even if i don’t delete the etkey, I will still have the same problem. At least deleting it allows me to get on a server.

Your solution to just wait, I would be at my PC for hours maybe and then decide to load ET. Surely that wouild be enough time?

“valid cdkey not reaching guidauth server” … so the server can’t be reached. sounds to me like a firewall problem. if you have installed a firewall or stuff like peerguardian which download automatic protection lists it might be that the server’s ip is in that list. so my suggestion: try switching off your firewall for a moment in order to check if that solves the problem and if it does i think you know what to do.

FFS people, lekdevil.nl explained exactly what the problem is…

The exact cause of this problem is rather complex and will take a long post to describe (which I will do when I’ve got the time).

The short version is: under certain circumstances (that is the long story), the PB GUID Auth server will tell the ET server you’re connecting to that it has not received your CD key yet. That bit of false information is then cached on the ET server for 3 minutes. During that time, all your reconnect attempts (at least when using the same CD key) will fail.

The easiest course of action when getting that “Valid CD Key…” message is to wait for 3 minutes, and then reconnect.

Just wondering if anyone has investigated that yet? I’m sure they have.

And it gives me the thought that it is ISP related after all, either that or the comms / language between the GUID Auth server / ETserver & the ET client is faulty somehow

But i definitely (from my own experience) think it is ISP / DNS problem first off - because the ‘probe’ from ET can’t seem to resolve the PB address, which maybe accounts for the delay & the initial failure

And to back it up, sometimes i could wait 20 minutes b4 trying to reconnect and still get the same error, whereas other times i could succeed to reconnect after less than 5 minutes?

With those last 2 sentences I feel i have truly entered the the domain of the Interweb nerd, the Thing they always said I would be, yet I laughed upon them, and now I am here! Woot!

But seriously it would be nice to get a real fix for it. Waiting works (lol) but baby how long must we wait?!!

I guess what I’m trying to say, is the cause is known, so it is rather amusing the people keep posing magic ritual #24234213451243 as a possible solution (Note, this was not directed at you). Yes, if you go and stand on your head in the corner for 5 minutes, while drinking straight kentucky bourbon (NOT SCOTCH!) the problem may be gone when you come back to the computer.

might give you steps at avoiding it, but anything else is pretty much a shot in the dark.

It seems to me the problem is 2 fold…

• why does the master not get your GUID. This, as you suggest, may be at least partly ISP related (eg, your packet to the etmaster gets dropped/corrupted/delayed), or takes longer to reach the guidauth server than your connection to the gameserver.
• ET caching the no-GUID information, without any way to force it to clear the cache.
