someone the other day sorted it by removing their hosts file.

That’ll be me then DG but sad to report while it worked that day the next day i was back to normal. Guess I should have posted again on that thread but as no one cba to reply to confirm/deny the fix i cba myself :bash:

atm I’m using the DelETKey.cmd route but its a pisser if for example your 2 maps through a campaign but have to leave for 5-10mins (too long for speccy mode usually) then try come back on and end up on zero xp again cos you’ve had to delete your original key :frowning:

Gonna try manual pb update tonight because I’ve been relying on pbweb for ages and its just possible its not working right :???:

Running pbweb.exe seems to have fixed it for me.

manually updating pb failed for me but but then i had another idea and added

192.246.40.60 etmaster.idsoftware.com

to the top of my hosts file and tried a few servers, rebooted, tried a few more and it seems to be working.

Can some other try this fix and report back their findings?

btw I’m not sure if the ip of etmaster.idsoftware.com changes from time to time but as of now that ip is correct

Note that sometimes, just retrying a number of times (or waiting a bit, it isn’t clear which) will ‘fix’ the problem, so that could explain why various things seem to work.

It’s almost if you have to wait for “something” to time out before youre cdkey is authed. I don’t know what “something” is, but waiting for about 2 minutes is the “fix” for me.

But it free & when it works (most of time) it’s pure class -> reminds me of Spectrum games!!!

I love ET and all its eccentricities - the beautiful thing that it is!!

Is this problem influenced by connecting through an external browser, maybe a matter of timing?

If hammering the reconnect button a few times doesn’t work, i’ll try /pb_cdkeyver followed by /reconnect, then as a last resort delete the fecker and /pb_cdkeyreg.
Incidently atm, the GuidAuthMaster is actually found at 192.246.40.62:27960

no_shad ,the problem don’t seem to exist in the in-game browser, so maybe it just lag on the part of the 3rd party servers, you may be right?

I mean b4 the patch - there so many times (and different errors etc) i get disconnected from servers normally, but then you get servers that u can jion without ANY problem

But i always connecting thru 3rd party

but now i usually connect by /connect xxx.xxx.xx.x:xxxxx etc

and same thing happen so dunno?

Not in any hax way, just to make playable way… But maybe it only happen if different cfg exec’d?

It also seems to be specific to certain servers. e.g., I get the error on Primers 100 times in a row, but I connect to some other server and get in instantly.

Yep it seems to happen to me on specific servers too. On certain servers I will always get the problem, on others never.

I think it happens to me when I try and connect to a full server. It’s annoying the hell outta me though :confused:

wait 50

to the autoexec.cfg.

A little something that helped me was to change the connection of my cable modem, from usb (tried both V1.0/2.0) to an Ethernet connection. :drink:

HowTo: Fix it: (WORKING Bugfix!
If you get this error, close ET.exe, open your webbrowser and surf some minutes in the www.

After a few minutes (5 or max. 10 minutes) you can join any ET-Server you want, and no “valid cdkey blablabla” would appear…

and for those, who are deleting their keys:
that’s a REALLY bad idea, don’t delete you keys, all stats are messed up!

This problem is so annoying, and people have not idea how to fix it, so it kinda reminds me of the days when women used to stand on their heads to avoid getting pregnant. Those of us affected by this problem have tried everything, lol!
