OK, the first event was OK but not without flaws, this time we will try and mix things up a little but first discussion is needed:

Date & Time:

Sunday 3th April, 6pm GMT onwards. 3 weeks away?

Format:

3 custom maps played in Stopwatch mode with team sizes of 8v8 played on ET:QW Pro with server settings as used on the Nirvana server.

All maps will be chosen by those playing, the previous voting scheme took too long.

The match will be on a TV server still maybe but the server will be open to spectators to drop in and out when players require a break or whatever, the event will take place at the regular nirvana server and normal nirvana sunday will resume after the organised play is over.

Teams will consist of any player who is proficient in playing custom maps, exact line ups to be confirmed when we have enough players. Also be good if the teams that are formed be used again in future events to encourage bit of friendly competition to make things more interesting.

In all fairness TAW willingly did the first round on etqwpro, which many of us haven’t even used in months, in fact, I re-installed it the day of the match and so did several other members.

This time around it’s only fair to try some other settings.

I suggest we use “QWTA Vanilla” which is something we put together using Azuvector’s awesome mod. It is just like vanilla only with the following changes:

[li]right click on airstrike and vio beacon makes airstrikes and vios go opposite direction[/li][li]Oppressors can recall tac shields with right click[/li][li]backstabs automatically gib[/li][li]artillery warning for Hammer and DMC is off[/li][li]Hammer is “nuclear” and EMPs enemy vehicles for 10 seconds[/li][li]Dark Matter Canon launches gravimetric singularity which sucks things in and blows them out[/li][li]Quake 4 Railgun which allows strogg railgun shots to go through GDF bodies[/li][li]and of course shots and explosions draw gruesome spurts of blood from bodies[/li][/ul]

The map selection method is good, I think it should be carried over. TAW already has several servers set up for everything we need (QWTA vanilla, custom maps, etc) that are passworded with guest passwords that we use for guest matches with other clans and teams.

When I mentioned this at the end of the last match in IRC, several people seemed receptive to it, I hope that feeling still stands.

We tried it once and it was “perfect shit”, nothing really improved on the mod since we last tried it, so it won’t be on Nirvana event, unless you want all regulars (who are thinking that qw:ta is poo compared to etqwpro) to go away.

ET:QW Pro has been proven to be great for matches with it’s match features such as client pause and spec lock, QWTA hasn’t even been proven for public use never mind for matches.

One of your biggest critiques of ET:QW Pro was that even with it’s vanilla mode its not quite vanilla but then suggest that we play QWTA vanilla that is just like vanilla expect it contains some quite frankly stupid things that break the game way more than a longer vehicle spawn and higher rocket damage vs vehicles could ever do…

Only installed the mod again hours before the match eh? This event was announced on 19th Jan 2010 and was clearly stated it would be using ET:QW Pro.

What’s wrong with QWTA? Seems to work fine for us. If you don’t like “QWTA Vanilla” with the changes that separate it from vanilla, then we can use a COMPLETELY vanilla config of QWTA, something you can’t do with pro. In that case, it would be like playing on pure base ETQW only with the autodownload working on custom maps. You guys have a problem with that? The only thing about QWTA is that for class specific binds you have to put a recursive descriptive bind in your config, ie:
seta g_class_context_aggressor “aggressor”
seta g_class_context_technician “technician”
etc

but besides that everything is the same.

Anyone want to give an objective reason why we shouldn’t use TA? It’s worked great for all our members. This is also a matter of compatibility and functionality, our MAC members get better gameplay and smoother FPS on custom maps in TA than in Pro.

Have you guys even tried version 3.3 since he released all the hot fixes? If not go try it right now on our custom map pub. I guess I could have tried Pro once on like 0.5 and then refused to play it again when 1.0c came out but that would be like an Ostrich in the sand…

TAW was remarkably gracious about going into an event with a mod that we don’t use knowing you guys planned to make a movie out of it.

What are the missing features of QWTA? I believe Azuvector can implement then all.
