(timestart) #41

Oh volcano is easy!

Nice Video Timestart! Seanza videos are funny and good to see. Saw your name (timestart) on the credits.

On-topic: Can’t call it a speed run… it’s more a style run, a video clip… Music is nice

The Ark
Perfect Speedrun - 3:00

The Ark: Perfect Speedrun: 3:00

Analysis:
For the first objective, Chris speeds forward in a Hog as an Aggressor to plant very early. I follow-up in a Desecrator to provide explosive defense while also being a damage sponge. While the explosives are secured, Chris positions the Hog so we can quickly get in as we drop for the next objective.

For the second objective, we both spawn as Constructors and race to where the Mining Laser will deploy. Note that I park the Hog where the Mining Laser will spawn, and you’ll see why later. I take the more vulnerable side of the Mining Laser, as I will be switching to a different class to catch the spawn wave and be at the door as soon as it’s open, and as you see, I do.

For the final objective, becuase the Mining Laser crushed the Hog, Chris switches to a Medic and gets the guaranteed new Hog. I get in a Tormentor and race to the gate before he finished the Objective (I had to catch the spawn wave). I go inside extremely quick, plant, and proceed to cover the explosives. It works, until we both die at about T-10 detonation, where the bots managed to hold off the disarming Ninjaqueers.

Perfect Speedrun. Chris and I were ecstatic at the end. ^.^

Quarry
Perfect Speedrun: 3:17

Video may not be uploaded till ~1 hour of this post. Link will replace this sentence.

Okay, so for the first objective, we both get in the Hog and speed to it. Chris dashes straight to the objective and plants ASAP, without wasting time shooting at bots. I get suicide RL’ed by a dumb bot, so at this point it’s up to Chris, and he manages well to keep the bots from disarming it - awesome.

Next, I get a Hog and travel to the place where the first cell will drop. If you’ll notice, I plant a Plasma Charge on the Hog, just for fun. Maybe it’ll kill someone in case the Hog isn’t blown up otherwise. I get the first Cell practically as soon as it drops, rampage down the hill, and plant it. Perfect.

Chris practically repeats that for the second cell, and myself the third.

If you’ll notice, Chris and I stop using the Hog boost right before we descend the dirt ramp - it prevents us from spinning out.

3:17 - Perhaps someone could cut a few seconds off via Tormentor, but we’re satisfied with this for now.

Sorry there wasn’t some huge explanation, but there isn’t much to explain - it’s just taking the Hog, really.

Thread updated. Added Quarry link.

I would be much more impressed by a time attack to loose the map as fast as possible, instead of random and speudo “perfect” speedrun where no rules were set about the speedrun.

(XVI the Great) #47

Well, we do go for fast times. However, optimum times - the fastest possible - are not what we aim for. The idea of a speedrun IS to be speedy. Quarry is technically 1.33 objective/minute, so that’s pretty fast - just think about it.

I do understand the criticism, though.

(DarkangelUK) #48

We used to do this in ET years ago (2005), pick a map and fastest to complete wins. But it was solo start to finish.

(XVI the Great) #49

Solo is simply too frustrating for me. Besides, I couildn’t pick a better partner to speedrun it up with.

(signofzeta) #50

isn’t a solo speedrun a one man army against impossible odds?

(DarkangelUK) #51

What odds? It’s one man on a map and run through it as fast as you can… no enemies. It was more a testament to movement and map traversal.

(XVI the Great) #52

Oh… well that’s easy, and IMO, stupid. You don’t have any opposition, so I see little point to it.

(timestart) #53

Yeah, really easy

(DarkangelUK) #54

It’s not about opposition, it’s about movement, speed and control over a map. We treated it similar to Defrag in Q3… it wasn’t whether you could finish the map, it was about the control and speed in which it was done, a mixture of fastcap and run.

(AnthonyDa) #55

XVI the Great, ever heard of trickjump or circle jump ? In w:et you are mastering the game movement and the map you can actually do some nice speedruns
Now in et:qw with vehicles, it adds a lot more opportunities/variation to do a speedrun, so there is a value point to complete the map in a (real) speedrun with only 1 guy rushing the map as fast as it can.
Need an example ? Look at MCP shortcut on valley.

(timestart) #56

Actually I think this better illustrates DarkAngel’s point

EDIT: And this is just lols

(XVI the Great) #57

No, not really.

Also, we use the MCP shortcut on Valley.

(murka) #58

You’re just not using some faster methods of transport for ex icarus is much faster than hog, it can skii and can gain speed for long rampjump.

(XVI the Great) #59

How would one Icarus ski?

(signofzeta) #60

Instead of jumping up and down with it, you kind of go forwards at a slant while using your jet boosters. Tried it many times on all 3 versions of the game, and it works. If that isn’t what it is, then the PC players should let me know, because I have tried the way that I described, and it is indeed faster than Hog. Just needs some skill.
