Vote: build it yourself for maximum performance/price ratio.

you realy think there are enough people with enough experience of all thoes system to get good results from such a poll

Topic starter is probably a shill.

My 10 cents on these:
Alienware -> Costs too much bucks. You get a massive gaming rig though.
Dell -> Quality, but costs a ton to upgrade
HP / Compaq -> Sell both cheap and more expensive PC’s, no guarantee on which is the quality model though
Gateway -> Seems I nver heard of those before. Not that that means something.

That’s why I go for the “I’LL build it myself!” option.

(thepiman) #6

I built my own. I have friends that Hate there DElls and my roommate has an alienware and he lots of problems until the sent it in and had them fix it. Out of all the Pc makers i like IBM and Sony the best. there computes have never had any problems :poke:

OverdrivePC ftw

(druid) #11

Ok but building your pc might be fun but then your bios drivers and shit No customer support when it breaks thats :bash: on your head and you might wanna do this :banghead: but with alienware all I do it

(Nail) #12

when it breaks !!!

place I buy my stuff handles any (1 in 5 years, 8 gaming computers) problems I have with warranty
I use asus boards, never had any probs with bios upgrades, driver issues
stick with reputable companies and no worries
never seen a reason to pay someone else to assemble parts that can’t be done wrong if you can see straight. For me, an Alienware means shipping probs, customs probs (live in Canada) if ANYTHING goes wrong, no thanks

(Dazzamac) #13

I built my last 2. Sure I’ve had problems with them but I learned from them by researching the problem and fixing it myself and I know more about my systems because of it. I wouldn’t consider going to someone else for a computer. Also, anyone who has the knowledge to build a pc should also know how to fix them.

Pre-build PC’s? It’s like someone would pick you your future wife… no way! Do it yourself!

(mortis) #15

My favorite brands:

Mortis Special

P4 3.2 HT
1GB matched pair dual channel DDR2
200 GB WD SATA HD
GeForce 6800 PCI-e 16x

Mortis Special II

Athlon 3000+
1 GB PC3200 dual channel
160 GB Samsung 8MB cache
ATI Radeon 8500

My systems whip the pants off of almost all “off-the-shelf” or so-called ‘gaming PCs’ sold by major manufacturers.

You want to build yourself a female life companion because it’s better than buying someone elses? :tapir:

(ParanoiD) #17

Clone pc made by pc store. Did cost a lot, but i don’t care as my dad paid :). Ofcourse i have had some upgrades the last years. Next PC will be pre-build, but pure because it is a laptop, the only pcs which are hard to build and also very expensive. The difference in price isnt as much as in desktop i think, then parts are harder to get i think. Last and most important to me: Guarantee. Probably the best reason with laptops.

(Brutality) #18

I HATE THEM ALL!!!

Fkn build-your-own-pwnage-PC is much better vendor.

Well, not build, but you got to teach them stuff. Long-time used models are expected to have bugs in their software which can’t be easily fixed. Sometimes in hardware too :lookaround:

(Mordenkainen) #20

Self built obviously. Better bang for euro.
