YET another sniper thread... Hear me out ppl?

Look at Rtcw on the pubs. There are hardly ever enough medics, even with the sniperrifle. Obviously it’s too hard for a lot of ppl to make the link between sniper<->need for medic in that game.
I don’t see why for ET it should be different.

It must also be really hard for people to make the link between Panzerfaust <-> Sniper in the “what pisses you off more” list. It all comes down to the amount of medics you have, and if you don’t have enough medics, so be it, your screwed, let it be in a 1vs1, 1vslongdistance, or a mission in itself. You’ll lose without a medic reguardless. 3 is the bare minimum for a good offence and defence. Snipers = nothing if there is a medic around.

The long and short of it - Too Bad. Get more medics anyway and stop complaining. =D

It’s all very well saying more snipers = more medics, but if the snipers were one shot kill then more snipers = more medics = more sniper fodder. When playing as sniper I love picking off a guy in the open just so I can take some pot shots at the medics that try and revive him. Medics are the backbone of any team and should be eliminated post haste. One shot sniper rifles would make medic killing very easy.

If you want to do sniper foddling or whatever you wish to call it, there is an easy cancellation fix to that. Usually, people aren’t perfect as far as their sniping ability is concerned. A little bit more movement while aiming may slow the firing rate of snipers. Also, if this isn’t instituted already, snipers really can’t snipe standing up as well as they are kneeling or lying down. Use your brain to come up with what I was about to say.

Theres a lot of things you can do to counter everything. Snipers are made to take out the enemy in one shot, and there is nothing you can do about it. Medics don’t revive people with one prick of a needle, but it’s done anyway. Whoever is faster and more evasive will be the winner.

How many people can really be a sniper? I admit it, when RTCW Beach Test first came out my friend and I were not nice. As we often heard the words: “Will somebody kill that fu***ng sniper!” Did we help our team? Well not too many ops stuck their heads up, and on beach that is important. I am a pretty good sniper too, person running, bang!, one shot head kill. People that good are rare unless your stupidity leads you to run in a straight line.

Most people run around like bunnies on acid anyway (I would love to see many of you run/jumping with 60lbs of gear!) and get in close combat, hopping like mad. I am sorry if you do not like get popped in O.S.O.K. fashion, but I do not think many people like getting panzer popped, or MG42 zapped, or rifle naded. Face it, any powerful weapon is annoying without limitation.

Panzers: 2-3 carrying limit, 15 ft arming distance, past 150 meters spiral out of control, and possibly “Alt-Fired” like MG-42 except kneeling. Note: If it hits target inside of 15 ft, it just became a dud.

Sniper rifles:

Option 1: Well if collision detection is good enough, face shots kill, helmets will stop one shot kills, otherwise two shot kills anywhere. Anywhere in the Head/Chest/Stomach, that is.

Option 2: Cause rifle to use power bar in sniper mode, in which case 1 shot is 1 kill if it is a head shot, and no more than 2 for body shots. This limits it like panzer. Possible add-on for this: A second head-shot gibs player (right now next to impossible for sniper).

Sounds fair to me…

Only Problem I see with snipers in ET is:

  • (not only applicable to covert ops) asynchronities between server and client in player position that may cause shots to hit the ground near the shooter despite clearly aiming at something else through the scope. Or it may be something else might be it what causes this effect. Maybe the players view originates above the point where the shot comes from. That’d even be realistic; an unrealistic side effect however is that it may make shot from a hill down to hit the dirt directly in front of the gun, I suppose in reality no sniper would be dumb enough to let that happen.
  • I find the FG42 TOO inaccurate. I have the impression that somebody with a mp40/thompson would win versus a covert ops with a fg42 a standoff at ANY distance if he can see the covert ops.
  • Maybe the garand has a disadvantatge compared to the german rifle.

the problems at the moment exist with ET not doing interpolation. hopefully the next release should fix that.

but there shouldnt be problems with synchronization if you use unlagged/delagged (once the interpolation issue is fixed).

the fg42 scope is pretty worthless, the low damage and wild spread (when scoped? wtf?) makes it pointless as a rifle. i dont know why they bothered with the scope really. the only thing its good for is short range, and only because of its high ROF.

the headshot-kill should be brought back. i wouldnt mind if they made the headshot hitbox smaller, but those of us with good aim should be rewarded for our efforts – not punished. if an aimbot couldnt get a kill faster than a noob, the weapon is just messed up and needs fixing. and thats where the garand/k43 stand right now.

well that and the different clip size of the k43/garand. the axis clip is larger and thats unfair.
