XP stealing

(S. Monkey) #1

I just come off a server (belonging to clan [FuN] I think) and I need to vent about a few things.

Firstly, I was playing as an engie and had planted dynamite at the old city wall on oasis. Another engineer on my own team defused my dynamite and planted his own.

Later on, I was playing as a covert ops on goldrush, and was in the process of stealing a uniform (from an axis I had killed) when another covert comes along, pushes me off (its an etpro server) and starts trying to take the uniform himself. I shot him, took the uniform, then left the server.

I can’t remember this happening constantly before. Have ET players been getting lamer recently?

(Kendle) #2

Suffered from this in the early days, but haven’t seen it for a while actually. I was once TK’ed by a team-mate for helping him arm his dynamite. I was an “xp-whoring faggot” or something, apparently.

I’d say the opposite, but that may be because I rarely play on a server that isn’t in my favourites.

Cue Kendle…

EDIT: Doh! Too late…

Er, no. This used to be one of the more usual commonplace idiotic things you saw. Haven’t had it happen in a long time now though.

(puubert) #5

I haven’t seen it for a while either, but it’s happened to me a handful of times.

(BlackDeath) #6

Hasn’t happened to me in a while, but I play on decent servers, so if it did, they would get kicked very quickly

*Wonders if monkey was around during the test days, wouldn’t be complaining then…

(Mr_Tickles) #7

Yes, happened to me last night aswell.
One of the tank barriers on goldrush or the main gate in radar, can’t remember which. Very annoying, and yes so is the covert pushing you out of the way, especially annoying if you were the one who just managed to kill that medic with only a sten after a long firefight…
Also, people who complain when you TK revive them… I have to admit, this happened a few weeks ago, so I just turned round and TKed him again, then gibbed him. Lol, he tried to kill me every chance he got after that. The fool tried to charge me with the flamer! as a medic? Lol.

(Cyber-Knight) #8

yeah, it’s a pain in the ass when these things happen. but those type of ppl usually suck and you can convince the server to boot them off very quickly.

I remember one time on Oasis where I killed 3 guys to get the flag myself, then I planted. A friendly eng diffuses my dyno, then gets killed, then we lose the flag, and back to square one. man that pissed me and the team off.

Yeah I hate coverts who take your uniform after you fought a long hard fight to EARN that uniform. Dunno why some noobs think they’re more entitled to it than you. even more annoying when you see “xxx was killed by yyy’s mp40” like 20 seconds later.

(Slappy) #9

Yep, playing as an Axis engie on some server running Venice the other night. Heading to build the CP and the only other engie on the team shot me in the back as I had my pliers out, went on to build the CP himself, and when I asked wtf that was about, he just said, “Sorry, didn’t see you.” Uh huh. :weird:

(EvilBaga) #10

I have a policy of tking any covert who pushes me to take my kill. Even if the game is in dire straits. If it wasnt my kill, nor his, and I just happened to get there first…well it depends on my mood >:)

(Maximus191) #11

Must admit i hate it when someone complains/files when i tk revive.Especially when i’ve spent the last 20 mins constantly reviving/dishing med packs to them.

I don’t care about xp but if i ever see another engineer diffusing my plant or watch it happening when im another class i just blast em out of principal. This may sound harsh but i hate xp whores.

(chr0nicles) #12

Well when a friendly engineer arms/defuses/constructs the object i’m busy with, i thank him since it justs means we saved a few seconds  But if i catch him just standing next to me and finishing the last click I SHOOT THE FUCKER.

(evilsock) #13

I don’t care about the XP whoring or if an engineer steals my construction / destruction, but man, if I ever see a scruffy unkempt teammate I just tk / gib 'em no questions asked.

(Kendle) #14

When ET first came out I explained how XP made all the difference, by giving RTCW (which doesn’t have XP) as a comparison. As it happens I’ve been playing a lot of RTCW lately, and in RTCW it’s actually considered rude not to help a fellow Engy arm a plant, and is considered a cardinal sin to defuse a team-mates plant.

Just last night I was playing RTCW, as Engy, and on Base I got to R1 to plant alongside a fellow Engy. My stick went down first. He dropped his but helped me arm mine first, then we both switched to arm his.

I can only long for the day when that kind of teamwork is as taken for granted in ET as it is in RTCW. It’s getting there, but hasn’t quite made it yet.

Those were the days. Maybe if the game was completed and released in the shops we would have a lower % of these xpwhores/noobs etc and therefore be able to have a more enjoyable game. Over time though im sure ET will filter out all these people and just leave those who want to actually play a decent game, as a team w/out having to plant twice/find another enemy to kill for a uni etc.

While I’ve got a lameness thread going…

Why the hell don’t people go for the objectives? On a pub server you’ve got, at best, 1/4 of the players actually rushing the objective. Everyone else either goes to do some minor thing that doesn’t matter at that point in the game (truck barriers, gun controls) or holds back so they don’t get shot*

One time on Oasis, I was an allied engineer. I was near the gate where the tank comes in, and with me were another engie, a medic and a fieldops. Mines had already been spotted so I ran in shouting ‘Follow me!’ and made for the north gun.

I was having a good day, and managed to kill three axis and make it to the door of the north gun before getting killed. As I lay there waiting for the medic I thought was with me, I looked round and saw not a single Allied player. ARG!!!

*Yes, I know I’m developing a mod with snipers in it, but it is possible to be a sniper without being utterly lame and cowardly.

(puubert) #17

but it is possible to be a sniper without being utterly lame and cowardly.

In a different game perhaps.

(Mr_Tickles) #18

Nope, in this game. I’ve had the highest frags and highest accuracy as a sniper in a game with about 20 people (admittedly that is rare though). You just have to get used to it. It’s an extremely useful class, helps the team out no end, if you have a decent sniper, he can take out other snipers so they can’t hamper your team, on fuel dump this is nearly essential. Also, as Axis on fuel dump, I can hold engie’s off building the main bridge for quite a while… very useful for the team.

(S. Monkey) #19

Sniping is for taking out dangerous members of the other team. Fieldops and MG42 soldiers especially. Panzers can be used for the same, but panzer soldiers are slow and fairly easy to spot given they cant fire whilst prone.

However, when there are no such people keeping your team back, you should get up and advance instead of camping miles away looking for another target. Especially when your mate is an engineer and wants you to get him to the fuel dump, tickles :stuck_out_tongue:

(Mr_Tickles) #20

Hey! I do move up when the tank blasts the tunnel doors and when we have advanced somewhat. It’s just that if you’re on the back hill in fuel dump, there is no way you’re going to get to the dump by the time they respawn. So you have to make a choice playing covert on that map, either to go for a uni and get inside, or snipe. Plus, if you snipe, you can spot mines easily enough which is an asset to your team. And I do go for those specific targets as the panzer and the field ops at the start as they stay up the hill are easier to hit and more of a threat, especially on your engie’s trying to build the bridge. Also, as a sniper you have to take out their snipers otherwise you are going to be pushing up the daisies relatively quickly.
