Dear Splash Damage:
I’ve wanted to be a truck driver ever since I rode with my Uncle Herman, a driver for Bluebird Bakery, when I was a kid. He loved the open road and I do too. But more important, I learned from my uncle the importance of communicating effectively with the people I work with and for. I take pride in turning clients into friends and in providing excellent customer service from the time I leave the loading dock until I complete the delivery at the other end.

I have an excellent driving record, and am licensed to drive large rigs as well as small trucks. I am writing this cover letter to let you know that I welcome the opportunity to meet with you in person to discuss one of the positions available for truck drivers at Splash Damage Offices.

I’m available at your convenience any afternoon between 2:00 and 4:00 pm… Please call me on my cell phone: 888-888-8888 so we can arrange a date and time that works for you.

Sincerely,

just don’t start project from engine writing. adopt widely-used engine 1st and then learn how to chure/create/pump content into it. later you will be discover how to adapt/alter/improve/change engine to better fit your needs, of write own one, maybe.
some of them “for free”.
some was completely[in GPL or BSD terms], some - only “for personal use”.

(Slade05) #10

Yea, SD, relocate into ****ing Skolkovo!

(brbrbr) #11

yeah, …ng relocate, quick !!

(LyndonL) #12

Can I work for you? I can write a basic AND nested “for” loop, and I can write an algorithm that asks for your name then says hello back to you. I know! I can write the Player name enter Algorithm for your next title

(DeanoC) #13

Come join us, we have cookies, and donuts and pastries

(LyndonL) #14

Out of curiosity do you say preferred experience in Unreal engine just since it’s similar or are you planning on branching to another engine?
Lol @ “Ability to write portable code”… “CONSOLE PORT”… It’s funny how people don’t understand the difference between “portable code” and “ported” as is evident with everyone who says Brink is a console port

“portable code” in gamedev context more frequently mean clean, elegant code, easily portable both thanks to following coding standards, good documentation and avoiding “dirty tricks” usage of any kind. ie, devlopers, able to “write portable code” is in fact 2-in-1 person: software engineer and developer itself and thus, mainly because sw/gamedev companies tend to evade overpaying, extremely rare event in HRM stats.

I think FIFE is good engine for my project

(Ocinneide) #17

you mention there are plenty of open spots available, can I be cheeky and ask how many spots there are for a 3d animator??? I’ve got 3 years exp (non-games) as a 3d character animator with motion capture exp too. Really interested in applying, just editing a new version of my reel at the moment. I also live in London

You won’t outdo Valve in snacks though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR0WN55p_zI

(Om3ga) #19

mm… cookiessss

(DeanoC) #20

Valves snack room is fine example and I can see some ideas we could borrow, however I noticed a distinct lack of donuts and caek, which would be a cold turkey experience for any SD’s moving there.

Donuts are required fuel for SD peeps, life without eating junk with a hole in it, just doesn’t fire the fun synapses!
