Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory 3

Dear Splashdamage,

It’s currently 2009, 6 years after the release of W:ET. The game made a huge impact on the game industrie, and FPS gaming itself. Still, after those 6 years it is still the game that has the best gameplay ever known. No game today can compromise the gameplay of the 6 year old game.

But, how many people are still playing it, if you look back 2-4 years ago? Not many actually…
So, is it maybe time for a comeback, or just let the game die and fade out easily?

Not on gameplay you should make a great update, maybe some little but not much.
Anyway, on the engine there are some major improvements possible!

 • MP3 Support: This would be amazing, look forward how small a simple sound mod would me? Yes it’s right: 10 times smaller! And the quality is still great.

 • Better textures: Improve the graphics of ET!

This is what i could think of now, but there will be more, any idead you can post under here.

Please Splashdamage, recreate the best game ever! And let the community help, so it is even better.

Just ask the original programmers or they want to work on it again, and if so just give them a little budget

Ow and don’t come tell me about ET:QW because it’s just don’t as good as W:ET!
And also, if you don’t gonna do it, who don’t release the source to a select group so they can develop?

I hope this would be heared,

Dear greatings, Paul

Splash Damage is working on there new title Brink with Bethesda Softworks and they got there hands busy with that, so don’t expect anything for a long time.

Also these threads are flooded around here, and all ended up in silence. Look on the bright side, wolfenstein is coming out. Give it a try while waiting. (it was saied, that MP would be same like ET)

Still ET is one of the most played games still today, it is still ranked in the highest of many game sites and has beaten many new games.

(Paul) #4

I don’t expect many from BRINK, and also the new wolfenstein mp is going to be shit

(Igloo) #5

Use your imagination. TC: Elite is based on W:ET, but it looks completely different! In case of wolf the engine is the same - but upgraded (id Tech 4). If we don’t like sth, we will be able to edit/change etc. so what’s the problem…

(Pegazus) #6

Just because Brink has nothing to do with ET does not mean it won’t be good. Brink will be most surely be interesting.

Did they not say, that MP will be like ET? Yes the iron sight thing will be horrible. But all in all, i won’t buy the new wolfenstein anyways, i don’t like the plot.
I don’t expect many from BRINK, and also the new wolfenstein mp is going to be shit :)
With an attitude like that, you’re sure not to be disappointed with those games.

However, I would still recommend to play their demo versions once they hit the Internet. There is still a large chance that they are great fun. The developers do try to please gamers, otherwise those games would have never been made.

What has the plot of the sp to do with the mp? Anyway, I feel exactly like the op and play only W:ET to this day. I hope that either Wolfenstein or Brink (or both) can replace it, but if not I will keep playing it until it dies, which might be a long time from now. It’s also possible that ID will release a W:ET Live (they own the rights to the game after all), that would be the next Enemy Territory game.

(Pegazus) #9

I will surely try out the Demo of wolfenstein, because i liked RTCW. Who knows, like you said i might have great fun.

@honeybe4r
I only ment the SP plot, not MP. I am hoping the MP feature would be free like ET.

(stealth6) #10

lol how can you know that teh MP is going to suck?

I am def gonna buy the new one and I hope it will be nice (I do like the plot :P)

But instead of whining you could make a mod for ET and include these fixes?
I also think many people underestimate how big of a task they ask lol, get the original programmers and give them a few bucks lol.

(Pegazus) #11

I absolutely agree with that part. Game making is not an easy job.

(H0neyBe4r) #12

No, but six years is surely enough time. Even four years (the game was definately in development at 2005) is a long time. And nobody expected something orignial, the mp is already pretty perfect and needs only a few upadtes here and there. My biggest fear is that they focused too much on toys like the veil and didn’t take much care of fundamentals like the aiming, smoothness and such…

Look at CoD, it was never a really original game and was made on the tech 3 engine at first, every following part (released every two years) just developed the engine further, but was practically the same game. And every part was more successful then it’s predecessor. The gameplay stayed exactly the same, only cosmetic things where changed, and the engine updated.

Why ID wasn’t able to do something similar with their biggest hits (Quake 3 and RtCW) I will never understand. At some point they became kind of slow. Quake 1 to 3 were released within three years, every part better then it’s predecessor, but then it took six years to release a mediocre Quake 4! What happend?

For game developers success of a game is measure in money. ET was free, and a fail for developers and publishers.
I don’t think they are willing to invest time and money again. The gamers community see things differently but who care about their opinion.( the new wolfenstein par example)

(Pegazus) #14

I don’t think game companies are all cold blooded. Splash Damage for example listened to community what they wanted to see in ETQW. So developers care about our thoughts.
Also it’s not always about money like i’ve said, seeing people having fun in your game is a good prize already. That’s one of the reasons why i want to become a game developer.

There a whole site called crossfire who would disagree with you there.

Hm, a year or two on the rtcw goty_mappack, hearts and souls into Doom3 engine, then realizing to run an updated rtcw(original theme) would require Crysis horsepower?

Everyone makes a good point. But remember, the CoD series has had the luxury of developing their engine(s) on the consoles, with one set of specs and drivers to worry about. PC Dev’s have to worry about a multitude of configurations/os’s, bleeding edge tech, and of course dinosaur vid_cards.

Gaming industry worth $22 billion in 2008

There’s alot more money on the consoles, and talent goes where the money is, so PC games are getting the back burner(in most cases), and come out whenever(or not at all).

-Oh yea, Scary, there are texture, sky, and skin packs around. Do a little searching. There’s a high res default texture pack too.

I am confident, BRINK will be my next favorite game…

I agree crossfire community is a punch of whiners, i am shamed i even once liked that site. Most of the comments have the words sh*t, sucks and so on.
They wont even explain why something is bad.

Site that deserves to get a rating of 1.5
Crossfire - 1.5 points = Minors, bad language, non mature.
(i hope there are exceptions)

Well yeah but it doesn’t make the false promises any less so.
