That doesn’t make any sense, since CoD 4 runs very smooth on the pc. And I guess thats because it still has the Tech 3 engine as foundation (hence there is still strafe - jumping and the same tweaks as in all the other Tech 3 - games). And yes, I wonder why ID spend so much time with developing an engine that isn’t as smooth and suited for shooters as the Tech 3 was/is, and released fewer games with it? It almost looks like they didn’t want the sucess, or as if they didn’t know what made their previous games successful.
And crossfire may consist mainly of whiners, but I agree that ET:QW isn’t as fun as W:ET, simply because the basics of a good shooter aren’t there. It feels very unsmooth, and the shooting is screwed up: The movement is faster but at the same time the weapons are less accurate. Close combat is an uncontrollable chaos where everybody jumps around like a bouncy ball, thanks to bunny - hopping and unlimited stamina, and is very hard to kill thanks to the relatively inaccurate weapons. On W:ET - servers with the double jump - mod it’s no problem to hit opponents in the head, even when they combine the double - jump with strafe - jumping.
I hope in Brink they focus on the basics first, smooth engine, aiming and movement, and then focus on the additional stuff.
