sony has just confirmed a worldwide PS3 launch in early november.
what do you think? will it have an effect on pc games, meaning that pc games for christmas will become less wanted compared to previous years?

fps on consoles isn’t good.
concidering the average age of gamers is now 30… and only young n00bs play consoles. i don’t think it will.
but i’ll still be getting a PS3 for my Gran Turismo fix.

i didn’t want to refer to fps. the poll was meant more commonly. you have to spend money on something for christmas. imo if people tend to go into the PS3 experience (not only games), they’ll spend less money on pc titles. could also have an effect on QW if it would be released after october.

Well the PS3 will be running linux on its 60GB hdd with Keyboard & mouse support so maybe a QW port lol??
It personally wont affect me, ive bought the previous 2 Sony consoles at launch for £300 and was never really impressed with the PS2 quality ( games & hardware ) so i think i’ll give the next generation a chance to establish itself before i buy one. Rite now i fancy the Revolution.

i’m just reading some of the press releases from sony…
and well, i love sony’s marketing they really comeout with the big guns.
60gb HDD fully upgradable, can act as a server, various OS acceptable etc. also releases for psp like a gps, eye toy etc.
thats all i need another $700 dust collector

I think most people will buy it as a cheap blu-ray player, which spells disaster for Sony as they make their money on games. As for the PC market, it won’t be affected, there are many PC-zealots that wouldn’t wipe there arse with a new console. Meh, I hope Sony burn in hell…Revolution ftw!

The revolution is certainly the console i’m waiting for!
defo. i hope nintendo can get a footing back into the market as the N64 has some of the best console games i played in my youth. they were good becasue they were games for consoles made for consoles… the controls just worked for them and it felt like you had fluid control over your character (mario, zelda, etc) unlike the PS2 that i felt had had console games made for computers the controls were adapted and clums and were no substutute for a keyboard and mouse (q3, killzone) also quite similar with Xbox
im realy looking at rtcw2 with a lot of caution and i expect the PC conversion to be much better that the 360 not on graphics but on the interface

Hahahah, wow how amazing would that be? I could see myself enjoying ET all over again layin back on the couch than slouched over my computer. Ahhh… wishfull thinking ftw.
Anyways yeah the Rev is definitely what I’m waitin for. Got a DS and such and I’m very happy with it. I was never really a fan of handhelds until the DS, and next week is gonna be an expensive Tuesday for me, with Tetris and Metroid w00t.

Yeah, the DS is pretty damn awesome, i’ve lost track of the number of games i’ve bought for it already. I’ve always enjoyed nintendo handhelds… GB, GBA… but the DS is more a case of love… er…

I predict that consoles ultimately will cause the death of PC gaming.
If a console maker added full keyboard support, email, ftp client, and an internet browser, then console users would have all the tools they need. Play a game, visit/run fan websites, web based admin for online play, etc.

i really do hope that the revolution brings the promised innovation. btw: does the rev have HD or not? i just fired up burnout revenge on the 360 and it’s damn awesome in HD. and it’s fast. very fast. :eek:
i wonder what the ps3 will have regarding hardware, if they release the ps3 one year after the xbox360, then they have 1 year more to develop. could be a big advantage.

Nah, I would miss modding and painting, messing around with music, and coding in general.
But who am I? No hardcore gamer, I’m more of someone who likes games and wants to try out different stuff with them.

Consoles are a money pit. Proprietary hardware is insanely priced - I saw a XBox 360 HDD going for $120, and the same storage PC HDD at Best Buy for $39 after rebates. Proprietary software is overpriced also - I bought CoD2 on sale for $29 at BB, and the 360 CoD2 was $60. You rarely see any console game on sale unless their 2+ years old, but I havent paid full price for a new PC game in a long time due to watching the Sunday ads.
The biggest thing I hate about consoles however is the proprietary software - only works on their system. If I want to, I can play Darklands on my PC, which was put out in the early 90’s… but if I want to play Goldeneye I need another piece of hardware (N64). I have a huge library of games and can go back and play, but you cant do that with consoles…gotta have the correct one.
However, I am interested in getting a DS for some of the very interesting games.
Back on Topic - No, I dont think it will hurt PC games. I see alot of console gamers that get a game on a PC and say “I’m never going back”, but I dont see it the other way around.

Yes accessories are overpriced, etc, etc… But that is to make up for the loss they make on every piece of kit. Could you imagine getting 3 X PowerPC 3.2Ghz processors AND an X800 XL for £229? I don’t think so…
(The above estimation is just that…an estimation. The Xbox 360 provides nearly this amount of power)
