will the worldwide PS3 launch in november affect PC games?

hopfuly in the perhaps near/distant future console gaming will move just about 100% to handheled devices

if you look at the tech leaps in hand help gaming since the GBcolour things realy have moved fast. a couple of years ago i was chuffed to be moving my little pokemon chatacter around a monochrome 2D world and now i can speed around the street of liberty city

the convienence of hand help gaming makes it mich easier to play with no wired or large consolse to place and TV to connect. Just pick up and play. Also with a console gaming realy is a activity with time set aside for but with handheld you can play on the train or in your GP’s waiting room

not to mention the wireless multiply thats springing up making it easier than ever to play against friends of even random people to get even more fun

as far as non PC gaiming is going i would say handheld is the way to watch. Technolgy has realy made a massive leap in the last ten years, just imaging another ten from now… maby we will be playing ET on the bus to work!

just take a look at burnout revenge on the xbox 360 on a large high definition tv with 5.1 surround sound and you’ll change your opinion instantly

the question that i ask myself is if we can get our hands on the revolution earlier than november. i don’t think nintendo wants to mess with sony. on the other hand they say the revolution is cheap, could be an advantage.

consoles will always be behind PCs tbh, in terms of power at least, because of the nature of the industry (me feels bein ridiculed in 10, if not 5, years for this statement)

as ayatollah says, accessories are one way console makers can recoup cash from their hardware fallout.

But, the way the console wars are goin, I think Nintendo will eat the opposition with innovation rather than graphics etc - gaming from now on i reckion is all about innovation not makin everythin look nice (even though i think the Revolution will be stong in that department too - enough to hold its own at least!!)

gaming from now on i reckion is all about innovation not makin everythin look nice

thats part of the reason i think handhelds are going to take off. Also i think the main part of games for the realy gamer is the gameplay and how interesting the game is. The less interested console gamer will probably buy for the graphics but soon become bored of his game. Look at ET to Doom3 one has clearly better graphics but the other just has the right gameflow to it

  1. If any console has a Metroid game…I will buy it.(we know which one that is) [I’m playing Metroid Prime on the GameCube again]

  2. DS is getting a (somewhat decent)browser… http://www.opera.com/pressreleases/en/2006/02/15/

  3. I hear that the american “revolution” will be a different style(construct) from it’s Japanese counterpart…can anyone confirm ?

  4. I am done with typing number’d rows for now.

I’ve been playing some Sonic on a friend’s PSP using an emulator… I still feel that those certain games have more fun in it then most games of today, even when it’s limited to 2D.
Gameplay is everything.

(EB) #27

I couldn’t have said any of that any better kamikazee.

(Rhoades) #28

I’m also looking forward to this game called Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. Have any of you ever heard of it before?

(Gringo) #29

I hope u right errol but alas i fear to many foolish people have money and will buy it the quest for improved graphics over all else which sony and microsoft espouse.

Isnt the sale of computers, computer hardaware, and computer games going up. Not sure just something Ive read. Not sure where though I’ll look though. Besides innovation is the way to go. On consoles I see graphics hittin their limit with the xbox/ps2 360/ps3 possibly. Its hard to make animated characters look real. Its all about gameplay and online play which pc provides much more of. I hate systems online response is horrible.

(Joe999) #31

true. my favs are commando, bomb jack and ghosts n goblins … and of course the metal slug series

read the M$ Window$ Vi$ta Spec and you know the sys can only run with up-to-date hardware … if we can speak of “sys” when we speak of windows. from that point of view the sales will rise. on the other hand, if i see it from my point of view: i don’t need vista. it’s a drm-contaminated piece of crap where the users aren’t allowed to do what they want. take burnout on 360 for example: my 360 went fine, but in order to be allowed to play the game i was forced to install a firmware upgrade. M$ marketing sucks. now i can’t play wmv-hd files anymore from dvd using the kiosk disc. instead they say i have to stream it from a foogging media center pc through the console.

the only argument for a new pc for me in the near future is Quake Wars

(Dazzamac) #32

I actually like the idea of streaming the media. all the computers in the house are networked so when I’m playin Project Gotham I can have all my cheesy 80’s rock from my PC and when the guy I live with is playin Dead or Alive he can listen to his ghey pop shite from his PC leaving the HDD free for other crap. Its a tiny download to allow you to share the music so it isn’t a huge problem. Imo the DS is the way to go for gaming. Mario Kart rocks. If developers use the revolution to its potential it’ll kick the ass off anything M$ or Sony can produce. Unfortunatly thats been Nintendo’s problem for years now, the developers have been going to the competition and Nintendo really need to attract them back with this innovation. It doesn’t matter how good or bad the system is if the games aren’t being released on it.

(EB) #33

This is my favorite part about the REVOLUTION !!!

(Dazzamac) #34

Two words ‘Duck Hunt’ I would still happily spend hours on that game if I could find the cartridge. I have all my other games but the Mario/Duck Hunt combi has evaded me for years now

#35

I believe PC games will start supporting dualcore processors sooner because PS3 and Xbox 360 have many cores.

(jjpron) #36

I’ve heard of it, I think it uses the SOURCE engine (the same engine used in GTA), and will be a free addon for all those who bought either Doom3 or Quake4 and have played RTCW:ET.

but tbh, I too am waiting for revolution. I’ve got a Mac for getting things done, PC for ET and QW, and a GameCube for games (RE4 all the way!).

(digibob) #37

Animal Crossing 4eva!

(Hakuryu) #38

Hmmmm…what does it say when the developers of a hardcore first person shooter would most likely be playing Animal Crossing on the DS? :stuck_out_tongue:

KAGE said
fps on consoles isn’t good.
concidering the average age of gamers is now 30… and only young n00bs play consoles. i don’t think it will.
but i’ll still be getting a PS3 for my Gran Turismo fix.

I disagree. I am 23 and have been playing games since I was 3. I have always played games on console and pc, as do all of my friends getting their computer science degrees with me. I love consoles just as much as pc, as they have their own strengths and weaknesses. I like not having to upgrade my console except to buy a new one. I can controll a complex fps on a console very well, I just do not have the exact aim I would with a mouse. I am loving Xbox 360 online and hope ET:QW comes out for the xbox 360.

(ayatollah) #40

I will use the example of Quake 4 here as it has been released on both PC and 360. If you were able to connect to servers that allowed 360 players (using 360 pad) and PC players (using mouse/keyboard combo) to play against each other. The 360 players would get owned every time. Its just more natural on PC-system…Now Nintendo Revolution…that is a different prospect!
