Why you slowing Russian version?

This is afaik the first real fps game from SD based on that engine. So far I do not like a single game from unreal for its core mechanic. Something always feels wrong compared to ID’s engines. Sure I enjoyed some titles, but still I wished it had been like a title from ID.

I guess its not that simple to replicate the core mechanics.
Depends if I’m local in the office or not. My business practice is proven to increase productivity by 40%. Hehe!

I don’t know the size of your team or your day to day practicalities. What I do know or better yet, what I feel, is that the core mechanics should already be completed or strongly established before going CBT. What I, and many others fear is that the core mechanics are established and we’re not liking what we’re seeing. I’m not sure how limited SD is on giving out information but a timeline would really clear up a lot of conspiracycrafting that goes on day to day. If you are afraid you won’t meet the deadlines set, you can always change them and players will have to deal with it but at least we will know its being worked on and when it’s projected to hit production.

I really hope you have a major patch before CBT, if not, we’re about to see 100 more threads with the same valid complaints that have been made during CAT. We still can’t accurately test weapons because the sounds are all off and the feedback in general is not where it needs to be. I would like to say we can’t accurately test maps either until the spawn system is fixed/modified. Is the current spawn system final? If not, when is it getting changed? If so, when are the maps going to be fixed? These are things that I feel should be sound before going CBT so the quality of feedback is greater and not rehashed posts from 2012.

Anti - Don’t take this the wrong way either. I’m still on board, it’s just hard to conduct his Welcome wagon without SD placing the necessary tracks. <3
In terms of balance I doubt there will be a ‘large’ patch before CBT (although there will be a patch). There will certainly be ‘large’ balance patches during the CBT though, probably one very soon after it starts.

I don’t think internally we see the change between Closed Alpha and Closed Beta as being as big as you folks see it. With the Closed Beta we’ll test more infrastructure and get more testers on board, balance changes and map changes will continue at the pace they have already, probably even faster/bigger.

The big change for us really comes about when we go from Closed Beta to Open Beta.

Strych’s business practice is to drop 4 hits of acid before going into work. It increases his work productivity from 10% to 14%

I think most of this forum has little original thought or even encourages it. Every person here is qualified to regurgitate every detail from another game, pro or self-proclaimed pro or not. I’d like to see some original product, but 99% of this forum is just “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” (which basically means reskin an old game). Problem is we all favor different games in the end and have to attribute that to every single detail of its design. Comp players might have some good unbiased ideas for making things more competitive and skilled, but they also have incredibly one track minds that ignore everything but their own motivations and wants. Too many times comp players demand changes if they aren’t immediately as good as they think they should be or if they don’t want to adapt to different play styles (ye old “omg this game must be for newbs b/c I am master race gamer!”). It becomes really obvious when people get to the point that they can’t enjoy any different games or aspects of another game whether they are actually good or not. I think CBT will give SD a better idea of what parts of the game should be prioritized in development over what people’s peevs are, which I think will resolve the most important issues overall.

(Rex) #145

Mhm, good to know. Though I always thought ‘the big change’ would be for an alpha.

(INF3RN0) #146

They need a wider audience than this alpha realistically. We are mostly ET & ETQW people.

and all this tells us what?
question posed was about Destiny changing the game and region lockouts

“two weeks” © Total recall

…and still no answer from SD.

=(

Sorry Nail, I’m getting exceptional at derailing these threads lately. -_-

mega patch needed : (

Yeah, I get the impression some people think a closed beta is a demo or something…

(Volcano) #153

if it was anything like bf3,moh,payday2 and any game on steam greenlight it would be a demo disguised as a closed beta with buyin

(malarky) #154

Hi Guys

There’s a few issues in this thread I’d like to summarize and address. Sorry for taking so long to reply.

…why is their game balance different to the western version?!
Our ultimate aim for the game has always been to build a faster paced PC-centric urban combat game focused around teamwork in order to offer players something different from the current crop of shooters out there now. We’ve partnered with the best companies we can in each region to publish the game and to use their local knowledge to make the game successful there.

Destiny’s team came to our offices about a month ago and presented the case for making the game more accessible to the Russian/CIS audience by adjusting the weapon and movement handling. We do not know that market, which is why we are working with Destiny in Russia, so we have to trust their opinion on this. We’ve agreed to let them make these changes, as their support gives the game the best chance of success in the region.

Anton (Cooller) has been tweaking some of the movement and weapon stats in order to make something that suits the majority of players in Russia and CIS. It is Destiny’s final decision on whether they will stick to these changes. As Destiny are in charge of operating the game in Russia/CIS, any comments about the game should be directed to their Closed Beta forums. Both of our companies always ready to listen to your opinions, and the changes are being tested in stages, so there is plenty of chance to have some input.

Nexon are completely on-board with our vision for Extraction in the west (check out MoneyPenny’s posts, and Smooth is balancing all of the weapons values (he has been discussing these here). We’re continuing to tweak abilities, movement and weapon speeds in order to make a fast-paced team game that is different to other FPS games on PC.

At this point, Destiny are publishing a version of the game called Dirty Bomb, and Nexon are publishing a version of the game called Extraction – the games will continue to be the same at their root, but with balance differences.

…but the Russian version has more stuff than ours!
Because of the differing publishing processes, QA cycles and platform requirements between Nexon and Destiny, sometimes we will ship feature updates in one region before another (e.g. the current Destiny build currently has a newer front-end menu layout than the current closed alpha).

This is kind of annoying for everyone, and a significant production challenge on our side (managing two builds, two separate QA processes etc), but it is our aim to bring all features to all regions as quickly as possible and with minimal lag.

…will we be able to compete between regions?
We’ve always wanted to support competition between regions that are hosting the game, but this is obviously going to be difficult with different balance values between Dirty Bomb and Extraction. Destiny will be supporting Dirty Bomb as a competitive game within their operational region, and Nexon will do the same for Extraction in EU/North America/Australia/NZ. We’ll be working with Nexon and Destiny to investigate how to make cross region competition possible post-launch.

(Ashog) #155

Let them be able to use the western version after release by not blocking by ip/regional. The officially supported and distributed in CIS version should still be the eastern version.

But those who really want, should be able to order and use the western version from western internet shops. This would be a small fraction of players anyways but would create some freedom of choice for those interested.

just sayin’

(Finko) #156

Glad to see answer, but it’s really sad news.Personaly, i dislike DD version of the game, and prefer not to play it.Hope to get access to CBT, and somehow play there.

(Seanza) #157

Thanks for your post Malarky. I have some questions now. You might not be able to answer these personally, but I’d appreciate any member of SD looking into this and feeding back the answers. Whilst I’m not a CIS player, I feel these questions will affect the Nexon regions because it seems this could end up happening with our version of the game.

 1. Why would Splash Damage agree to let Destiny make changes to their game? Surely you realised this would result in having your team working on an additional build (or even builds) of the game. The time your team spends on the Destiny build could’ve been spent on creating a global build.

 2. If Splash Damage truly wanted cross-region competitive play to be part of Extraction, why did you opt to strike deals with multiple different companies to operate separate regions knowing full well that they don’t already have a system in place to allow cross-region play with ease?

 3. Is there no turning back? Is this decision final? If so, what happens if Destiny run Dirty Bomb into the ground and your thousands of man-hours are wasted?

 4. What happens if Nexon decide that they want a piece of the same pie that Destiny have? Currently, according badman and various other members of Splash Damage, you guys will maintain creative control and the final say on all things relating to the game on the Nexon side of things. What if Nexon want the creative control that Destiny have and they started developing a game for their audience?

The problem is, the game’s audience is going to be the same no matter where in the world that audience is. This whole “X knows about their audience better than us” really sounds like it’s just politics-speak for “We struggled with finding inexpensive ways to deploy the game so we had to sell off our IP to cut the price back” if I’m honest.

I don’t want to be sceptical of you guys, but this whole thing with Destiny just sounds SUPER sketchy and very patched together. My heart of hearts is telling me to remain positive and uphold the confidence I have in you guys, but my mind is just doing blowing up with all the information that’s coming to light.

(acQu) #158

You’ve got some really interesting business practices SD

But also for reasons already mentioned above i find it a really bad idea to have a different game across multiple regions. This in turn for me means there will be no big international tournaments, e.g. LANs, where players compete from multiple regions.

This in turn could finally meet my desire for ultimate pub spam and making a troll game finally for the pubs  Well, different spam i mean, fun spam  since you obviously will not have a game which is competetive on an international level.

Anyways, i am just kidding. I just felt i had to type something. I support you SD, although i think we don’t know the full story. Is there any chance we can get our hands on the russian version in this beta without causing too much work on your end?

(Mustang) #159

(Ruben0s) #160

Hmm seems like they never tried cross region

It is Destiny’s final decision on whether they will stick to these changes.

So basically Destiny is in control of the game. Well that went fast. I can’t wait till Nexon will have the same thing.
