Why do you still play ETQW?

(Tandem) #41

Engine,spam, no pro-mod.
Feedback in closed-beta fell on deaf ears.

I think it was ahead of it’s time and the game tried to please too many people.
Infantry players didn’t like the vehicles, Battlefield and COD players didn’t like the objectives
and it was too slow for quake players…etc

The small comp community was cool while it lasted.
And it seemed to last just a little longer than anyone expected.

Great game +etqwpro

i blame vert for not coming to nirvana like an ass…

(Donnovan) #43

I hope to release new Glory of the Weak map for this Nirvana, but this will happens only if i can reach a very small size for the PK4 file.

(Runeforce) #44

Because it’s still FUN!!!

(Verticae) #45

Blame the wife, she’s claiming my Sunday nights.

By playing CS:S with me. That’s right, I married a chick that’ll shout ‘Boom! Headshot!’ when she frags me. Best excuse to miss Nirvana EVER.

(rUBBEN) #46

Why no option " promod " ?

(taw_m0nsta) #47

Because you need any ‘mod’ for playing custom maps.

(Donnovan) #48

You can vote for team play, this have some kind of PROMOD. PROMOD is too much specific.

(INF3RN0) #49

There is a total of 14 vehicle whores in this thread !

(light_sh4v0r) #50

15 derp

(Jakoby) #51

I still play cuz of the early days when u had that epicly awesome round on !ranked or something like that and want to relive it again, and explore the endless challenges and opportunities only this game can provide for me:D

(rUBBEN) #52

Yeah but this game is much more thant that, there 's teamplay in a lot of other games too, and ETQW is also nervous, one can always improve, maps are awesomly built for a game realised in 2006, the class system is perfect, weapons aren’t boring even if there isn’t a lot of them, I must admit that vehicules and artillery are <3, and ETQW is also homely ;D I think Donnovan has posted more messages on this forum than the number of players still playing ETQW, but finally it doesn’t stop us to meet new people and to play together with love and fun (what ? I go to far ? okay) ! :stuck_out_tongue:

I think this game is much more interesting than any FPS game, and that’s why it’s quite hard to leave it (no miss, I didn’t mention brink ;))

(Donnovan) #53

We can consider to have 17 people on today Nirvana?

New maps aboard!
I think the real question is, why don’t people play it.
Because of the terrible level in publics: ETQW has the peculiarity of being one of the very few games I know where, the more time it passes, the more players will generally be worse than a bot in pubs.

Because of people not recognizing the (in my opinion) superiority of promod, and persist in playing the random spread, random explosions vanilla game.

Because of the competitive scene, which allowed self-admitting cheaters win tournaments (with the blessing of self-absorbed clanbase so-called supervisors), that has always been dead.

Because of the netcode.

Because of the kickban trigger happy server admins.

Because, when compared to Q3/ Q3 cpm /QL, it feels so sluggish, slow and buggy.

The real advantage ETQW had over a few other games was the depth of the meta-game which worked so well in sinergy with teamwork: as soon as it was impossible to find a 6v6 I personally couldn’t find any other reason to keep playing it; hope that answered your question mate

(Donnovan) #56

Hehe,

Well, at least you seens to have a good reason.

I really doubt most people have this kind of deep reason to not play it.

BTW (*),

“Because of the netcode.” is the only one were merit fall over the game. All others are related to the community you abandoned. If the good ones abandom the community, what we can expect to it to turn? They are the good ones, but they lost to the bad ones! HOOOOO!

Also, why you is on Q3/ Q3 cpm /QL? Because its a good game or because its community dont have any of those problems?

(*) “BTW” is a .Chris. Copyright acronymin.

The Quake Live community couldn’t be worse: you either get the official forums crowded with insulting trolls and pointless threads, or other hardcore-wannabe forums, which grant you more informations for sure, but tend to be so elitist you never get someone good willing to dedicate his time to teach stuff to the new players (I still remember the etqw4newbies site, it was gold).

This means you have to learn to play by yourself the hard way, by trial and error, thus resulting in scaring new players away.

Granted, it’s wrong to generalize like that, and occasionally you’ll find on irc decent people to play pickups with, but that’s about it:

As for the game itself, it rocks: fast, challenging, rewarding and ,unlike ETQW, precise (not as much as q3, but still), although it has its flaws, being a broswer game with no lan support.

As for q3 CPM, I only play cpm physics on the defrag mod, which I couldn’t love more, judge for yourself:

Cool video, hadn’t seen that one yet
Is that you?

Because there were too many GDF only retards waiting in spec for hours.
Because the only tactic ever used was: Lemmings
Because players had a fascination with demo recording Armadillo sprees
Because Bumblebee flyers would rage when players figured out how to plasma mortar properly
Because pub heroes would always try to ninja plant the final objective of Salvage.
Because Strogg would always mass hyper on the final objective of Salvage, when ninja plant failed.
Because too many players voted for the African campaign to play Slipgate
Because the only thing GDF knew what to do on ARK was go mass engies, and spam avts all over the place

(light_sh4v0r) #60

Because getting highest xp by killing deployables in the enemy base is mighty useful to the team

But it’s a great game, best MP shooter I played yet, with the exception of Liero
