The Quake Live community couldn’t be worse: you either get the official forums crowded with insulting trolls and pointless threads, or other hardcore-wannabe forums, which grant you more informations for sure, but tend to be so elitist you never get someone good willing to dedicate his time to teach stuff to the new players (I still remember the etqw4newbies site, it was gold).
This means you have to learn to play by yourself the hard way, by trial and error, thus resulting in scaring new players away.
Granted, it’s wrong to generalize like that, and occasionally you’ll find on irc decent people to play pickups with, but that’s about it:
As for the game itself, it rocks: fast,challenging, rewarding and ,unlike ETQW, precise (not as much as q3, but still), although it has its flaws, being a broswer game with no lan support.
