freedom of choice.
aka customizability
ie sometheing like “World of Sims” in FPS perspective with portions of [little]more actions[than in Maxis game] ?

(.Chris.) #63

Missed that bit :o

(Ashog) #64

I’ll probably buy it because I can.

The Steam stuff is though a real scarecrow for me here. Also no more preorders - Wolfenfail victim here too.

@.Chris.
No worries. Happens to all of us. It didn’t help that I wrote it weird "it’s: it’s. I usually post at the end of my day when I am tired. Can’t be helped.

I’m only buying Brink for my Xbox because of two problems I have.

 1. My roommate sold my PC instead of letting me do it (I lost about $460 b/c of him)
 2. My only friends are Xbox gamers.

I don’t understand why my friends don’t like PC gaming, but it’s an issue I’ll have to deal with.
I would like to know, what are your personal reasons to buy Brink?

Is it SMART? The team based gameplay? Because you love all SD games?

I will buy Brink, because I just love one genre of muliplayer shooters, which are the team based ones from Splash Damage  Furthermore I would like to play competitive again.
I am intrigued about the SMART system. I can’t wait to see how it works with the shooting and all that.

A lot of the mechanics look amazing, the shooting looks pretty good, and the graphics are ridiculous.

I can’t wait for the game to come out, it’s pretty much my most anticipated of 2011.

Customization. Customization. Customization. Teamwork-oriented gameplay. Balanced and polished gameplay. SMART looks fun. Visually and audibly gorgeous. Customization.

In no particular order.

(DarkangelUK) #69

Cos I’ve played it and enjoyed it, have enjoyed every other SD game and it looks like this one won’t disappoint either.

(Mustkunstn1k) #70

Long-time ET player. Can’t wait for an upgrade. The customization, the brilliant SMART. And just the objective-based teamplay all together. Also, art style is made of win.

(Pytox) #71

Cause it’s SD’s property ofc!!!
And for some shirts

(Atavax) #72

I’m skeptical of the SMART system… I am not convinced that #1 the smart system is challenging enough to master and #2 that there would be a large enough benefit to mastering the smart system. I am viewing it as a replacement to bunny hopping, rocket/nade jumping, air strafing, ect and so far i have not seen them address the advantages of smart over older methods of advanced movement.

(Nail) #73

don’t use it then, you can do everything old school and be even faster

(Atavax) #74

i can do everything oldschool in brink?

(Nail) #75

absotively

Search the forums, it’s been openly said that all the smart stuff can be done manually and would be quicker overall than letting the system do it for you.

(Atavax) #78

either thats not what he’s talking about or he misunderstood me…

there’s the smart system and theres the smart button. the smart system is how they designed advanced movement into the game. the smart button is the button you use to automatically get from point a to point b if the conditions are met. My skepticism is whether going beyond the simple running start then press smart button is going to provide a serious challenge to skilled players outside of the first week after launch and whether there are significant rewards for doing it the hard way; is someone who has mastered the smart system going to have an huge impact on how you play the game, or is knowing how to do stuff without relying on the smart button, simply going to mean theres 5 more walls you can climb over each map…

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters. Word!
Manually doing smart-button moves basically just means you’re hitting crouch or jump yourself at the right time. for instance, if you want to climb up a wall, you can run at it with the smart button held, and you’ll automatically scramble up and over it. but alternately you can run at it, hit the jump key and HOLD it, and you’ll scramble up and over it as long as you keep jump held down (release jump and the climb stops).

the speed up comes from the fact that in the example mentioned above, if you relied on the smart button, nothing would happen until you get to the wall, and only then would you start climbing. in the manual jump example, because you chose to jump early, it gave you a little bit of extra height, which means you didn’t have to climb as far (smart meant you started climbing from the ground, jump meant you started climbing from the air). it’s not a huge difference, and in some cases, it’s no difference at all. in really has the most impact when a well timed jump changes what would have been a a mantle (slower climb) into a vault (smoother handplanted throw yourself over an obstacle move).
A player can do anything without ever touching the smart button that he could do with it, doing it with sprint, crouch and jump will be faster but require precise timing as in older id tech Games
