Who ARE the Brink Community Leaders?

(Schwarzeis) #61

ahem

IT IS I WHO IS THE ONE AND ONLY LEADER

(Jess Alon) #62
Holy crap ROTFL. This wins the thread!

And the thought of having a community leader like H0rse or Tok is frightening. While both are clearly very knowledgeable I’d have serious concerns over their ability to do what is best for the community rather than what they think is best for the community in their own opinion.
When I second think it. I think it’d be unfair to say who the leaders are. Brink is a new IP so you can’t really know until the competitive scene picks up on Brink TV. I think the best players who contribute the most are going to be important and more so on the PC side. Brink TV will help console players figure out good tactics as well but they are going to be watching the best PC players pull stuff off they might not be able to.

This is by no means a definitive list of “leaders” or driven to inflate people’s egos. It’s simply people who stand out from the crowd and you actually feel has opinions that are worthwhile (even if not agreeable). Not really sure why this has got turned into such a big deal about the term “leader”. Think of it as “noteworthy community contributors” if that helps you sleep at night.

(tokamak) #64

Nobody is an authority here, time and time again newcomers (Coolaguy for example) have shown they can bring incredible insights to the table as well as old farts (and I’ll have to include me here) have shown they can talk nonsense.

This is just an awkward discussion, discussing potential ‘leaders’ whatever that may mean, as if we even need them in the first place.

I guess we can only wait for ETQWlalala to return who can then show us the way to prosperity.

(Dormamu) #65

Ask badman nicely  to put a poll or a vote next to every member name, something like the “Rate post” button or Report abuse button, make it so only that the members with a minimum of 20+ post can vote (so you can not sign up with multiple accounts and vote yourself) and you will have your community leader voted by the community .

(tokamak) #66

Oh hell no.

(SockDog) #67

As Apples so eloquently put it, a good server admin IS a community leader.

I’ve also always been of the opinion that the developer is in the best position to make judgement on a game’s balance or features as they ultimately need to ensure the product as a whole works and so be totally unbiased. Gamers rarely see beyond the end of their current hot topic crisis and skew their opinion accordingly.

(tokamak) #68

Oh yes, an admin that carefully caters to the niche of players he wants to attract to his servers is vital for a community.

Haha, this reminds me of this random description of h0rse I found on the GameFAQs board.

He’s the hero the Brink board deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we’ll hunt him because he can take it. Because he’s not our hero. He’s a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A H0RSE…or something.

But seriously… you’re taking this a bit overboard. If you don’t have any thoughts on who notable figures are in the Brink community, then there is no real point to continually posting about how awkward you feel. It’s a bit off-topic.

If you (“the community”) aren’t willing to have a dialogue with who the community feels is notable, because it’s too “awkward”, then we could simply get a few random competitive players who played for mid-level teams in random games and claim they are the community leaders. Does that work for everyone? Or can we get back on topic?

To be honest mattc0m, the one thing listening in to that “roundtable” showed me, is that i honestly dont care what other people think of the game…i already knew this ofcourse, it just became more aparent, the real reason i was listening was in the hope that i would hear some new info or some future plans and events that would be happening. Im pretty sure everyone on this forum is capable of making their own opinions on brink once they have played it themselves, and it will be different to every other players opinion on brink.

No one on here agrees with anyone else 100%, theres always a tiny difference in opinion (or massive :stuck_out_tongue: ), and i doubt any people on here want to be represented by a stranger on the internet. Wait until it is released, then interview popular players, mod’ers and clan leaders, that would give you a view from the casual, the comp and a future perspective.

The quickening has begun…

“I am immortal, I have inside me blood of kings. HUUU! I have no rivals, no man can be my equal. Take me to the future of us all.”

(Vaporman) #72

So, from the replies to this thread, I have come to understand the definition of “community leader” to be anyone who has posted a bunch on either this or the Bethesda forum, or been routinely the first to post new news. Alrighty then.

(Schwarzeis) #73

I haven’t read through all posts… But… Really? Is this what one will see if you read all of them?

Oh well… As Toka said, we got no leader, we got ourselves and we talk and discuss with eachother in… civil and uncivil manners

… right? :o

(tokamak) #74

Okay, as long as that distinction between ‘leader’ and ‘notable’ is clear. The idea that communities like these have an hierarchy just makes me shiver.

Coolaguy has interesting thoughts and is able to voice them eloquently. Consider him nominated.

(SockDog) #75

I was kind of talking about admins that attract a lot of people to their servers. Whether you or I like the way those servers are run is inconsequential. Don’t like customisation or mods, go bitch to the developer or run your own server, but stop bitching at the community like they should conform to what you consider is fun or be irrelevant.

Thanks for proving my earlier point though.

(Vaporman) #76

Oh there is a hierarchy, or at least a perceived one. It’s one reason I’m not around here much anymore.

(tokamak) #77

Yeah and the other reason being your advertising antagonising everyone.

I said ‘whatever the niche’ which includes the niche of the average player.

(Breo) #78

Joe Chen & Captain Mokoena? ;D

(tokamak) #79

I think Brbrbr would need to be asked for fresh insights as well, we have a Dutch version for football talks and he’s massively popular even at an elderly age.

(Schwarzeis) #80

Yes, that is correct, Breo!

Those are our leaders, now let’s split the forum into two factions :stuck_out_tongue:
