Nobody can represent the community.
Who ARE the Brink Community Leaders?
I’d elect daUK even though I bicker with him sometimes because he’s knowledgeable and he’s shown a lot of talent in previous SD games. Even though he’s not the friendliest person on the forum he’s fair and listens to everyone and he’s always around. He’s always in the IRC chat as well.
Wraith would be good because he’s personable to speak to over microphone and he has extensive brink knowledge as well as a huge following over on the bethesda forums.
I don’t know what medium you’re going from but I know daUK and Wraith would do fine as community reps because they both put in a LOT of time on the boards and share a lot of information and are quick to correct inaccuracies. Just like H0RSE.
Agree…at this time, he has nearly 3,000 posts. THREE THOUSAND!..but sometimes he just likes to “Hear himself talk”…or in the case of the forums…“read himself”…(skip to exhibit C)
-EXHIBIT A:
I’d rather refer to them as Community Representatives than leaders. It’s nice to have a democratic voice that can convey the community’s opinions and thoughts as opposed to having an IRC channel for full of people all shouting at once… especially if they’re like Etek… that’d be a disaster.
I think once the game is released, we’ll see a few users stand out more, who can take an unbiased view of what the community desire, and help communicate those desires to those that can deliver and help realise them (mod makers, league admins etc.)
-EXHIBIT C:
I’m just playing around DarkangelUK…to be fair…Tokamak has over 5,000 posts…FIVE THOUSAND! Seriously, how do you guys do it? You’ll have carpel tunnel before Brink comes out and you won’t be able to play until you go through physical therapy!
Well I have been here almost 8 years, it’s not really that many posts in the grand scheme of things
Okay, so here’s my take on what Matt was trying to ask in the OP.
We were pretty discouraged by the GamersPortal “Community Leader” thingy and felt it was a gimmick to get signups to their site rather than something that will truly help expand the Brink community overall. Shady guests aside (especially that Mattc0m guy, yeesh!), the fact that the chat has yet to be posted publicly by them and, from what I hear, they only plan to post it on their private forums… so again, a signup is required to even read it if you missed the “live” event. These forums need a middle finger emote.
Fortunately, the chat log is available thanks to Linsolv for tossing the log up on pastebin and Moneta for putting it where I could find it.
That said, we at Brink TV want to open a regular dialog with team representatives, mod makers, league admins and even key pubbers trying to break into the competitive scene. We want to give YOU the community a platform. In addition to covering competitive Brink, which is a given (if you know anything about ETTV and QLTV, you know what we’re bringing to the table), there’s so much more to the community and growing the scene.
We see the potential for Brink to become something really special… that stands out from the zzzFPS cookie-cutter mold of today, and we realize we have a unique position to shine a light, or at least, point a mic at the people that are putting in the hard work and long hours to make it all happen.
We just want to know from YOU, the community, who those people are (if any currently stand out) and who should be on our radar after the game is released. Unlike the GP chat thingy, we don’t want to presume who should be on that list.
As a horny group of woman once said, “We’d appreciate your input.”
i think they will appear when people start playing the game, like dommafia and quakewars. He was the big name for that and that was because people wanted him as it, not because he was labelled as such before the game hit.
Forcing it just doesnt seem right, especially as some people just love posting on forums, when the game hits they might move on.
good one linsolv, couldn’t really see that Game Portal thing being anything other than self promotion, not a “Community Leader” thing imo

My favorite part was when Mattc0m said this,
Mattc0m: “It’s been a pleasure discussing Brink with you gentlemen, I hope future discussions we can have available, openly, to the Brink community at large. And while GamersPortal has done a service to present a Brink roundtable discussion, I hope if there is a future roundtable that is not a gimmick to drive signups and discuss feature sof the site, but instead a legitimiate conversation with the community.”
I think we owe it to these guys to send them our best so they don’t end up with another disaster like that on their hands.
Money is involved here. An active community for a popular game is a nice source of ad-revenue so they’re trying everything they can to plant seeds. The fact that they’re willing to go over the backs of other people shows that they’re actually not that interested in the game itself.
Well he kind of was. He stood out in the beta and SD interviewed him. All deserved, but without it he would just be an extraordinary player rather than a big name.
this is true, a nice little fan site can get decent sponsorship if there’s enough traffic. Some have gotten website, ftp server and game servers and contribute back at the same time
Thanks to Moneta?
It’s got my name right there… :I
My bad, I went by the person who posted it where I first found it.
Yes, thanks to you then.
Edited my post to give proper credit.

We’re not trying to force a list right now… more like opening an ongoing dialog that will ebb and flow with the game. For example, we wouldn’t be surprised if some of the leagues sponsoring launch events are just jumping on the bandwagon and will be gone in a month. We’ll maybe cover their stuff because teams have shown interest… but wave to them as they move on to the next bandwagon event. Yet, someone else might step up to the plate and be here for the long haul. In addition to covering what they’re doing, we also want to give these folks a platform because they’re helping Brink to thrive.
Until the game comes out I think you are the only one Matt. You and your staff have started something that will be a great asset to the Brink community. I dont think there is really anyone on par with that at the moment. Give it some time and plenty more “leaders” will crop up im sure.
I would have to say Cankor has been pretty pro on these forums. He seems to know whats up more than any of the other speculators around here :).
Completely agree with G4y (bmxer’s real name). As much credit as I give people for knowing a game, that isn’t out, it’s completely in that and I have no confidence (yet) in many pub forums opinions except for the part where I know that the guy talking is someone who’s playing against me or with me (g4y) in an actual competitive match. Brink TV going that way also simply nullifies a lot of the pub rumble also. Seeing as there is a fine line between people who love pub raging vs 5v5 matches.

Agreed, going to delete my info from there. That was just shady.
Mmmm I think that you forget people like Nail who run big community servers in the “leaders” group, but dont say it too loud, his ego cant take too much boost at once or his e-peen is close to the explosion!
Oh and also me, isnt that obvious
Peace
Holy crap ROTFL. This wins the thread!
And the thought of having a community leader like H0rse or Tok is frightening. While both are clearly very knowledgeable I’d have serious concerns over their ability to do what is best for the community rather than what they think is best for the community in their own opinion.
