Who ARE the Brink Community Leaders?

(Apples) #21

Mmmm I think that you forget people like Nail who run big community servers in the “leaders” group, but dont say it too loud, his ego cant take too much boost at once or his e-peen is close to the explosion!

Oh and also me, isnt that obvious

Peace

I think once the game is released, we’ll see a few users stand out more, who can take an unbiased view of what the community desire, and help communicate those desires to those that can deliver and help realise them (mod makers, league admins etc.)[/QUOTE]

What are you, 5 years old?

There’s a big difference in what people cry about on forums and how they actually play. If Blizzard were to listen to the idiots complaining on their forums, the game would be a mess. You guys don’t realize that 90% of the people playing and enjoying a certain game don’t give a crap about forums anyway. So, 10% of the people are not a ‘community’ and two guys standing out from those 10% don’t represent **** and certainly can’t speak for anybody but themselves.

(tokamak) #23

I have to agree with Etek, apart from the uncalled for insult the rest makes sense.

‘Community leaders’ is a funny term though, especially because the game isn’t out yet. Prominent guys who have been active in organising and taking part in community events for similar games would be more applicable.

You’re a bit of doughball if all you think it entails is relaying information… it’s about making unbiased, informed decisions and syphoning relating information… and using some common sense and applied thinking to precisely garner whats being expressed… given that you can’t even grasp that simple concept, I guess that rules you out. If it all it equated to was being a tw@, then you’d be perfect for the job.

Community “leaders” have a variety of roles. Team leaders, community figures, map makers, mod makers, film makers, amateur journalists, webmasters, designers, etc. They are people who put in time into the community, and have garnered respect from other people in the community for their invested time. Even if it is a “niche” community (say a team leader gets more respect from the competitive gaming niche).

In essence, you care about what they say and take note. You may not agree, but they’re a step above the average forum poster.

(light_sh4v0r) #26

I’m a step below the average forum poster, does that count?

(Mattc0m) #27

Surely it qualifies you for something!

Prominent community members are there for the community and not to be representative or lobbyist for the game.

Take Day[9], he’s incredibly influential in the general public perception of the game. He really has a huge sway in the meta-game as well. But he’s not there to tell Blizzard what to do. Likewise, Idra, one of the best SC players, he constantly bitches and complains about the balance but nobody takes what he says seriously, they only watch how he plays.

All that said. This particular event is just exaggerating a bit for more traffic.

(DarkangelUK) #29

I’ll be honest, I certainly never thought of myself as being suitable for any part of it. All I care about is myself, and spend most of the time arguing and disagreeing. I’ll more than likely do my part movie making wise (tutes, guides, configs etc), but as for community feedback… i’d be useless at that.

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #30

LyndonL, Herander, Tokamak and Nail.

IMO they would be good community leaders.

Although unless he’s changed his mind Tokamak shall not be purchasing Brink.

EDIT: So a good community leader wouldn’t necessarily have to be a top pro Brink player?

Off topic: Etek how did you get so many infractions? Don’t recall a thread where you said anything worthy of getting one.

Exactly, but from this to ‘community leader’, what exactly does the mean anyway? What is this, a syndicate? I don’t need a ‘community leader’ to represent or speak on my behalf, or to lead me anywhere.

(Kinjal) #32

Competetive Community - Seanza, Hannes

(Weapuh) #33

Etek, you aren’t really understanding what anyone means by community leader… just someone who goes beyond just playing the game and somehow gives back to the community of other people playing the game. So leader not as in they lead anyone. Nobody is talking on your behalf, to clear up confusion.

(tokamak) #34

Then just don’t use the word ‘leader’ it’s childish and self-obsessed.

(system) #35

So if he’s not leading anything, or representing anybody? Why do you call him a leader?

(Apples) #36

You should use the word “prophet”, everyone will be happy!

(ed lolington) #37

the brink community is an autocracy and our benevolent leader is the babbling brbrbr

(tokamak) #38

Seriously, Kralnor is nothing compared to him.

(Herandar) #39

brbrbr, Etek & AnthonyDa should represent the Splash Damage forum at the next Brink roundtable discussion!

(Love to see that transcript.)

Seriously though:

Badman is an SD employee. He can’t represent the community.

Badman is an SD employee. He can’t represent the community.

Well, he is the Community Relations Manager…
