Who ARE the Brink Community Leaders?

(Mattc0m) #1

Hey,

Don’t know if you guys tuned into the “Brink Roundtable with Community Leaders” deal. But one thing was pretty clear… those gentlemen, whilst Brink fans, weren’t exactly community leaders. I already asked the question on the Brink TV forums, but figured it begged to be asked here.

Who has been putting in the time, effort, and dedication into the Brink Community to be considered a leader? More importantly, who has opinions that you’re interested in hearing and communicates them effectively?

There’s two obvious people: h0rse and badman.

But who else do you consider a community leader? Let me know!

Well the majority of people on this forum have been following brink very closely, and the majority of us regulars seem to know everything you can about brink given its limited media and information available. As for community leaders…i think its fairly hard for a community to develop leaders in a game that is yet to be released, usually the leaders are considered to be the mod makers and the tornament and league starters…this forum has a mix of people, but with a majority of PC players due to Splash damages previous titles, of which we have a mix of causal and comp players…both groups have no current “leaders” and the console croud is fairly unrepresented

To conclude…there arent any community leaders.

Edit

To answer the other part of the question…pretty much any sd representative + employee’s opinions would be extreamly popular as they know everything about the game and have been playing it for 2 years…

DarkangelUK posts here a lot. Wraith over on the bethesda forums contributes a lot of information to the community as well. He’s even built somewhat of a following.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Maaawdawg was playing in the beta, and posts pretty informative stuff. I’d think of him as a “community leader” if you wanted to label people as that.

/me agrees with what apoc said.

But i want to be splash damage brink community alpha male :frowning:

why is there the need for a community leader and what would be his/her duties if i may ask?

(Mattc0m) #8

No need for community leaders, but there are. There are folks that volunteer time and effort into creating something, and generally have opinions that others would like to here. For example, I consider h0rse to be a community leader for his work, and would love to hear his opinions.

Also, I didn’t even know there was a private beta for Brink.

There was a closed beta only for PS3 a while ago. All the codes were given to Europeans with a strict NDA on it.

Wraith is the goto guy in the Brink Bethesda forums, along with a few others there.

Here i would say Horse obviously and DarkAngelUK

(LyndonL) #12

Mmm there’s a difference imo. I would go to certain people on this forum for information, but I severely disagree with their opinions.

(Mattc0m) #13

I think as long as their opinions are of interest to the community at large, even if people don’t always agree with me, is a key part of it.

im the village idiot the proof’s in my profile

Until the game comes out I think you are the only one Matt. You and your staff have started something that will be a great asset to the Brink community. I dont think there is really anyone on par with that at the moment. Give it some time and plenty more “leaders” will crop up im sure.

I would have to say Cankor has been pretty pro on these forums. He seems to know whats up more than any of the other speculators around here :).

(SKS) #16

Until there’s a game to play there’s not much to do for the eventual “community leaders”. I wish I didn’t have so many side projects to work on, or I would bring back the pug league I used to run several years ago. I may still decide to do so depending on how much free time I have, and if I can pry myself away from playing the game long enough.

(INF3RN0) #17

No leaders here on the forums, just trolls. Brinktv crew is the closest thing to a well oiled machine that this place will ever see .

(Sheza) #18

coughs

Nah, I kid. It would be great to organise something with more than one Brink website though. Right now we’re all spread out.

(system) #19

Community leaders, you sheep need a dog to steer you around? Why the hell do you need a ‘community leader’ for?

(DarkangelUK) #20

I’d rather refer to them as Community Representatives than leaders. It’s nice to have a democratic voice that can convey the community’s opinions and thoughts as opposed to having an IRC channel for full of people all shouting at once… especially if they’re like Etek… that’d be a disaster.

I think once the game is released, we’ll see a few users stand out more, who can take an unbiased view of what the community desire, and help communicate those desires to those that can deliver and help realise them (mod makers, league admins etc.)
