When you wish you could kick yourself in the balls...

I just thought id make this thread because its pretty fun explaining times when you’ve done the dumbest-ass things while playing ET. Moments where you sit in limbo with your head on the keyboard crying and wondering how a game could be so cruel

GET POSTING! :drink:

I was an Allied Engineer on Fuel Dump right behind the actual target, out of the Germans view (so I thought). By the time I arrived in position, a friendly covert op had blown both gates on either side of the fuel tank (so the Germans could disarm any dynamite regardless of which side they were on). An Axis Engie had just finished repairing the left gate, and I assumed he was running as fast as possible to repair the other side. Trying to be clever, I set my mind on waiting until the other side of the gate was repaired until I would arm the dynamite so the Axis would fence me in and have to travel up the stairs and waste a valuable 10 seconds or so in the commotion. I ended up waiting about 20 seconds myself before an Axis medic found me and shot me on the spot BEFORE I had the chance to arm, and not a second later was the other side of the fence repaired.

No big deal, I planted and armed 4 minutes later to win the game, and that asshole of a medic ended up imprisoned inside the fuel dump’s fences himself for a few minutes as well. One question though, why do Allied covert ops insist on dropping ONE detpack on EACH side of the dump? Why not drop two charges on a gate so it takes twice the amount of time (and engie powerbar) to repair it?

Cause most people don’t think of that.

The dumbest thing? I make an effort not to do dumb stuff, but probably getting my arse in the line of fire of someone’s gun. That’s pretty dumb. Or jumping from high places with 10hp.

The dumbest thing I ever did in ET was this time I was playing slightly drunk, and a teammate kept planting dyno at the command post. I kept defusing his dyno because I thought it was our own command post that he was trying to blow up… after the third or fourth time defusing I asked him “what the fuck are you doing?” And then I noticed it was the other team’s command post he was trying to blow up. I just quit after that.

LOL @ rgoer.

Dude, step away from the keyboard at that point. ROFLMAO.

Do you play on the ND80 or Austin servers?

(rgoer) #6

Most of the time I hang out at fearedgameserver.com’s server, SplashDamage’s server, or the “Disgruntled IT Employees” server.

Radar, I’m on Allies, both entrances are breached and we’re making runs for the parts. I’m a mortar and I’m set up near the little health/ammo shack with the constructible MG in it. One of our covops has just spotted mines around the radar nearest the Side Entrance. I see a pack of my guys go for the parts and I figure I’ll clear out the mines for them. Unfortunately, I misjudge the trajectory and blow them to fried chicken just as they grab the parts. One shot, three team kills.

The last thing I did before I disconnected in abject shame was – what else? – point my mortar at 90 degrees and fire one last round.

whilst playing radar as axis F.Op.The last radar part had been stolen Only me and the allie left alive .Ive managed to come from allie spawn point and hes running towards the truck not noticing me…I cant belive i am admitting this…I called artillary support…he killed me whilst i had my binoculars out…Of course everybody on axis was watching me :bash:

hmm i was playing a match on some :bored: FRENCH :bored: server,

it was on fuel dump, i was a medic and there were like 11 minutes left.

I spectated be4 i joined the match, and what do i c on the roof… an axis with an allied satchel charge hmmm… { covert ops }

SO when i join the right side of the depot is blown, i went 2 the roof killed the covert ops… yet at that very same moment a allied engineer must have gone in the fuel depot and hide somewere…

When the gate was build again i heard “dynamite planted { at fuel depot}”
the whole team was one big spazm, noone knew how 2 get inside the fuel depot. The “merdre’s” french for “goddamn” were flying around, when i told them in english, go via the roof and defuse it !!.. they didnt understand… :eek2:  :bored: :bash: :banghead:

At that time, i thought… how… can this game be so cruel 2 me…

Tip from me: never play on a french server… cuz they wont understand u

LOL Et player I find that most english players can’t read english when you
tell them something. :disgust:

Hi,
shortly after ET came out, me and my brother played allied on fuel dump.
He as coverd ops me as engi. We managed to get through the tunnel to the dump, 10 Hp left. No depot gates were destroyed, so he opened the door (with axis uni) and we both went in. Heading both to the right side of the dump. Depot defences were construced, but no axis in sight. At this moment I never had played as covered ops, so I didnt know what this character can do. Anyway, we arrived at right depot defence, my heart was pumping, fast victory was near, I threw dyno at defence and was about to arm it, right in that moment my brother threw his stachel charge next to me in order to destroy the defence. No need to say, this blew me heaven. :banghead:

Next time same as above: He opened the door with axis uni, and I sliped in right after him. He stood there with his binos and I thought: man, what is he doing? So I let him look and started running. Youre right: after entrance i stepped in landmines and killed both of us.
Again this was followed by wild abuses. :bash:

On beach as allies, we had penetrated the defenses and I helped an engie get to the gun controls to plant. We were both shot up, so I gave myself a couple of health packs and he was almost dead, so I figured I’d kill/revive him. I shot him and was running up to revive him, right as a grenade came out of nowhere and blew me up from behind (he was in a position where he would’ve probably lived). I felt pretty stupid as the lone engineer came in and disarmed.

Another time on radar, I was an axis covert ops. I got a uniform and got in behind the enemy and was looking for a good opportunity to take a bunch out with a satchel charge. I somehow got confused in a wild fire fight that ensued and for some reason thought I was allied. I proceed to shoot at a bunch of axis (I never got a kill though, or I’d have realized my err). I even lost my uniform due to firing my gun, but I think the allies must’ve thought I was in disquise or soemething. A couple turned and looked at me after the firefight, and then it hit me, along with a barrage of gunfire from them.

(BlackDeath) #13

Probably because 90% of American/English players dont even know how to spell in their own language :stuck_out_tongue:

(SJ_Frankenstein) #14

I was on Radar as an allied medic. We had just captured the flag but of course I didn’t hear that. I run down the hall with a primed gernade but I run into an engie going for the side entrance. Well I turn to huck the gernade behind me only there are teammates following me. By this time the gernade goes off kills me, and 3 others.

Just last night was playing, somewhere, and had spent most of the night as axis. I decided to switch over to allies, because they were short handed and needed another warm body to absorb bullets.
So, going along I see this covert ops making a run for a fallen soldier, and shot the heck out of him, killed him quite dead, and rather quickly. It took me a second to understand why the game was saying I had just killed a teammate. It was an allied CovOp, boy, did I ever feel stupid. Worse yet, I managed to repeat this performance at least one more time. Just got stuck in the “kill the allies” mode.

(Wasted!) #16

I have a bad tendency to kill my own team mates thinking to be doing the right thing, just to realise later that perhaps it wasn’t exactly so.

Three situations come to mind, each of which I’ve done more than once (sigh). The first is the above mentioned “Don’t worry I’m just killing you to revive you with full health!! Oops… did you see by any chance where all my limbs go?”. We could call this situation a “Revivus Interruptus”.
Also happened twice to kill a team mate behind a MG, thinking that he’s an enemy shooting at me.
Finally, when I convince myself that the kind guy smiling in front of me is in fact a vicious enemy covert, I apply the “shoot first, ask questions later” principle; I often feel like a fool afterwards… (luckyly I usually play medic, so I can at least try to pretend that I did it to revive him… cough).

Another mistake I make often is trying to revive someone by dropping a grenade on him (hit 4 instead of 5), though i usually manage to actually revive him and flee before the explosion. Fortunately they’re invulnerable for a few seconds so they don’t blow up.

The funniest things I’ve seen anyway happened to other people. Once there was a mortarist outside the forward spawn in oasis, I though “I hope he knows what he’s doing or he could be more use with a medic”. No doubt, the next time I respawn, me and another allie were hit by one of his round. The funny thing is that we were about 2 metres away from him, so it wasn’t us stepping in front of him as he was shooting because he remained unharmed, he must actually have fired with a an elevation of 89° or maybe very low and hit the wall.

Another time, always on oasis (I was axis this time) at some point someone (a very skilled and experienced player, which always beats me in fair duels (ie same hp, no one is surprised/shot from behind)) started complaining that he planted twice at the south anti tank gun but it wouldn’t explode. So I explained to him that it had already been blown up at the very beginning of the game, by a sneaky engineer. Then I ran for the gun to stop him from reaching the north one and planting there. As expected I find him running in the walkway and as soon as he sees me, he tries to kill me… but he couldn’t because he forgot he still had his pliers equipped.

(deception5) #17

Hi all,

I joined a fuel dump game as allies with around 16 minutes left as an engineer. The tank was still at the bridge. I helped the team get it past the bridge and through the tunnels to blow open the gates. The axis is frantically falling back and with around 14 minutes left.

I run into the fort alone and follow (at a slight distance) one of the axis up the stairs and through the axis only door killing him with still about half my health. I go up to the roof and find another axis staring straight at me. I finish him off but take another 2 shots or so. Victory is inches away! Very low on health I jump down to the fuel dump, but miss the ladder and crash to my death, dynamite in hand… with no enemies in sight…

The axis sets up a solid defense and we are never able to get back in…

(deception5) #18

Oh and then there was the time when I had just tweaked my keyboard layout and someone asked for ammo and instead was given an airstrike cannister!

when i see mines…but still forget to do anything about them…3 times in a row… :disgust:

(Lekdevil.NL) #20

The saddest moment in my short ET career… I’m playing Allied engineer on Battery and we’re in serious time trouble. At last, I and another engineer manage to break through to the gun controls. He plants his dyna first whilst I’m on the lookout for any Axis sneaking up on us. When he’s done, I drop my own dyna right next to his. Out come the pliers and I start arming it.

Or so I thought…

Note to SD: if any future games by you fine people involve the planting and arming of dynamite sticks, make it bloody obvious if you’re arming or disarming the bloody thing. Kthxbye.

Anyhow, when I think I’m done arming my dyna, I see the (previously armed) dynamite of my fellow engineer vanish into oblivion. Of course, right after that my own dyna stick rubs it in even harder by sinking uselessly into the ground… Right after that (I’m already in bang-head-on-keyboard-mode by now), the Axis add injury to insult by killing us both.

Then the time runs out. Axis win.

I’ve had better games… :banghead:
