When will there be a "real" PC preview?
no what i want to see is whats different on the pc edition, like not locked 70 fov tunnel vision and radial menus everywhere

you know, the reasons why i play PC games, not console games .
Why would they show PC footage with tweaked settings? They are going to advertise the out of the box experience, not what Brink can be through customizes scripts and .cfg configs.

(Herandar) #102

I’ve only seen one radial menu. The mission wheel. The old customization screens were radial, but aren’t any more. Where are the other radial menus that are “everywhere”?

(JeP) #103

Menus at CP to change classes and weapons aren’t radial anymore ?

Personally, I like how people despise radial menu, as they look too consoly to them, despite the fact that especially for a mouse a radial menu is better to have every option equal. QW had radial menu, Maya, a 3D program, has it and it’s much quicker/efficient to use it, radial menus don’t mean “console port”.

(Herandar) #104

Don’t know. I haven’t seen video of someone at a CP since the “Jolly” video.

What’s wrong with radial menus? Just because they work well on consoles doesn’t mean that they don’t work as well on the PC…

I really wish they would bring back voice communication through radial menus. Beats the number buttons anyday.

(Linsolv) #106

Radial menus mean that every point on the menu is equally far from your mouse. Welcome to the world of infinite convenience!

The lack of PC footage is concerning, best option is just to wait till release and see if the game is any good or not, if its rubbish then don’t buy it. Thats going to be my plan anyway, I hope SD still values its PC playerbase but I am not getting my hopes up on that.

(Djean) #108

As far as I know the most recent HUD still does (based on multiple videos of ingame footage) and I see no reason for the developers to change that.

Because we have enough keys on the keyboard and don’t want to waste time chasing buttons on screen. Because we like fast gameplay and not couch scratching your ass while playing gameplay.

(asmo) #110

use your brain, shouldn’t hurt you too much

(JeP) #111

My couch makes for a real sloppy mouse pad.

(LyndonL) #112

Fast gameplay? It’s many times faster to press one key and flick your mouse in a direction. Try Left 4 Dead’s radial vsay menu. Much better than having to distinguish many keys.

It seems more a case of being scared of change more than anything else.

“ETQW had a list so anything else is a consolification”.

(H8tz) #113

I am not sure what is faster. If one beats the other it will be for some millisecconds. But the important point is that a shortkey selection is much more precise in the hectic rush of a critical game situation. Just imagine how stupid it would be to end up as a soldier when there are only a few secconds left to disarm an explosive charge just because you flicked your mouse a little too high…

(LyndonL) #114

Too high? It’s directional… The beauty of it is you CAN’T stuff up unless you are severely mentally handicapped

EDIT: Hence the word “RADIAL”… meaning on a circle… the mouse starts out in the middle… You press a key, and move the mouse toward whatever option you want. Provided there are only 6 or so options on the menu it’s ridiculously accurate, and way faster than pressing the “m” key over and over to find your mission you want since pressing one key means you can press it one too many times.

(H8tz) #115

Selecting a mission???

I’ve done my the objective befor you are finished in your menu to select a mission.

Have you ever selected a mission in ETQW? I got only one word for you: UNNECESSARY and SLOW. And I know these are 2 words (not counting the “and”), but they work best in combination.
:stroggbanana:

EDIT: I appologize for my bad behaviour.

(LyndonL) #116

Same thing applies to the class selection. Semantics. You’re missing the point.

Why should I have to move my mouse when I can easily press a key and be done with it without even looking at your precious radial menu?

(JeP) #118

Because missions are dynamics and you can’t know which one will be there, and even with keys you’d have to look for where is the mission you want ?

And if you know where it is, knowing the direction with the mouse is not harder than knowing its number. Numbers are good up to 5, after that you’d eventually have to check your keyboard to see “men, where is the 7 ?” when this will never happen with the radial menu. Used with a mouse or a pad. Deal with it.

And I personnally think it’s really more a matter of staying focus on the screen than one being faster than the other, wathever is your controller.

Em…most good players just bind vsays… its alot faster.

(JeP) #120

Why wouldn’t that kind of tweaks be possible in Brink ?
