When will there be a "real" PC preview?

(SockDog) #61

How much less could you care?

(Herandar) #62

A lot! A whole lot.

(BioSnark) #63

.3k works, too. .4k is a bit better.
I think that PC will be better than consoles because they’ve already made good PC games. Maybe they don’t feel the need to prove themselves to PC because they already have. They certainly need to prove themselves to console players. I heard their last game became crap on consoles. It is easier to preview consoles too. Having 30 PS3s is a lot cheaper than 30 PCs that can run Brink as well. They play PC and they want to make a game that they’ll play as well. So I can’t imagine PC sucking. I bet it is all they play at work.
There have been plenty of companies that started off on PC making PC games who know HOW to make great PC games and then constantly and consistantly screwed up the future PC releases because they’d moved to consoles.

You need only look at Crysis 2 and all the drama surrounding that to see that just because a company made great PC titles in the past doesn’t mean they’ll continue to do so.
Looool

what about those console kiddies that want DLC and mods and everything the PC version has, without buying the PC game?
You mean instead of the one they bought that cost 20% more? :o

I keep telling you guys the controls aren’t finished yet

What controls? How can they not be? How do they test the PC version then? Do they test it with a gamepad?

(DoHo) #67

The way the player moves with kb+m should be one of the first things they get done. =/

(Herandar) #68

Yes. Where have you been? That’s been a PC-exclusive complaint for some time now.

The developers have said that they will focus and tweak the PC controls near the end of the development process, since they are very familiar with PC controls. But since it is entirely customizable, why would you worry about the PC controls?

(A.i) #69

I am mostly worried about mouse input though, like many have said before, it better be completely raw input from the mouse; I play at 5600 dpi and I can feel when there is a slight acceleration or smoothing

(Tune) #70

When they start to hire gamers as reviewers for games.

The basics should already be there, and I’m guessing they didn’t just throw away what they had done with the engine with ETQW, and they built upon that instead of starting from scratch. The engine still has _left _right _forward _back _attack etc. and will still handle mouse input, it’s an engine geared towards PC and one they’re very used to.

what exactly is the drama with crysis2? sure, there are some minor things that i dont specifily like that came from the console. the interface for example that always displays “hold “button” to grab plant” and stuff like that.

but the rest pretty much plays like a good pc shooter. it looks amazing. and i honestly cant hear anymore directx 11 moaning. crysis2 is the best looking shooter now and probably for a while (on pc) and runs in 60fps on a midrange pc. the a.i. is kick ass. i mean, those guys actually communicate with each other. all the radio chatter is not random, its actually what the a.i. is doing.

soundtrack is awsome. weapons look awsome, feel awsome. rest of the sound is awsome. scripted sequences are awsome.

the real drama though is the multiplayer. it still is barely working. sometimes youre just not able to join match. most of the time you wait in lobbies. the server filters werent even saving since the first patch (working now anyways). there are also some bugs in multiplayer where your stats are not beeing saved.

but all in all its a great shooter. most people who complain about crytek moving to consoles listen too much to other idiotic people who claim that. think for yourself. take an objective look at the game and youll find out its a solid pc shooter.

 • Press start to play
 • Lack of proper graphic settings in the menu
 • Low res textures thanks to beeing a console port
 • Crysis Warhead looks better than Crysis 2
 • Multiplayer is a joke and has the worst cheat protection ever. Thanks to certain cvars not being cheat protected a few console commands is all it takes to cheat.

To name a few problems.

(JeP) #74

Except for the multiplayer point, that’s graphism concerns… Crysis 1 wasn’t only about that, and what I miss the most in Crysis 2 is more opened arenas.

(kilL_888) #75

then you probably should just play crysis1 and/or warhead. these have open areas.

if crysis2 would be open as part 1 it wouldnt be possible to run it on a console.

crysis2 is crysis2. it just is not open and thats actually what i like more about it than part1. at least you have different ways each level how to complete them.

 1. as if a game brakes when theres a “press start” at the main menu.
 2. aside that it looks pretty much equal in all 3 settings except different aa and af settings, theres a tool that can configure your settings.
 3. yea. its always good to compare jungel and city and say, one looks “better”
 4. true. but gameplay is still fine. its no wolf et nor a cod4, but its fun at least. crytek is currently working on better cheat protection btw. and they actually talk to the community in their forums.

edit: i found i nice article about the graphics in crysis1 and crysis2.

(JeP) #76

I was really seduced by the urban post-apocalyptic environment, but I wish they had given us more big areas with several buildings to go into, I think from nowadays good FPS devs, Crytek would have been the better for the job…

That + dumbed down nanosuite and its powers what made most crysis 1 fans rage + crytek kept lying that PC version will be superior and hyped the graphics, ppl were not so much disappointed by graphics as by the fact that crytek lied to them…

Press Start/Enter is the first warning that it is a modified console build, true pc games go streight to menu, so if crysis 2 was developed separately from consoles - then how come its there? /rant

regarding the graphics, modern PCs can show far better picture in real time; regarding textures - look at metro 2033, it also has, more or less, detailed graphic settings, and it was released on consoles too.
That went alittle off topic

(DarkangelUK) #78

Everything else, sure, whine away… the Press Start button how ever is an easy mistake. Brink builds can have button prompts changed on the fly to show xbox, PS3 and PC prompts on the PC build… could be very easy to get a wrong tag on there by accident.
That + dumbed down nanosuite and its powers what made most crysis 1 fans rage
personally i think it was actually a good idea to make the nanosuite more streamlined. the shooting therefore is more tactical than in other shooters. you can cloak at any time, and you can give yourself the armor. or you can spent your energy by jumping higher or sprinting.

(A.i) #80

You could do all that in 1st one too, even to more extent; the powers themselves were better is what I’ve ment.
