When will there be a "real" PC preview?

The thing witht he PC platform though is that by its very nature A LOT more content/options can be provided. For example, yes it’d be nice to see gameplay with someone using the highly accurate mouse, or knowing if the game is more clunky or smooth with extra keyboard options. In the last few years we’ve seen game mechanics dumbed down on PC because of the limitations of console controllers.

On top of that “to be announced at a later date” is nonsense in regards to PC specific things. I’m not saying SD is guilty of this but many developers are. They’ll “hold out” on PC information and then release a fact sheet with things like “full mouse and keyboard control” as a PC specific thing and it’s like… whoa, wait, wait wait wait. We waited 6 months to hear we can use a mouse and keyboard and have dedicated servers? Stuff like that on the PC platform is standard, and if it’s NOT then you’ve produced a piece of **** product.

On top of that games just play differently on the PC than console. Trying to “deliver the same experience across all platforms” is like going on a holiday to France, India and Germany and going to McDonalds for all your meals. Why would you want the same experience in 3 totally different environments? Hopefully BRINK takes full advantage of the PC platform, but like most games today I’m sure it’ll be more or less a “prettier” version; yes I’m cynical and have little faith in developers.

I was kind of wondering about this topic myself.

Except their last game had a demo AND a beta, and Splash Damage were very up front about everything we needed to know - how the PC servers worked, how the admin side worked, everything. The console versions seemed like little more than an afterthought.

The only thing they didn’t shout from the rooftops was the modding and mapping tools and they turned out to be notoriously difficult to use.

This time round the consoles are taking centre stage and I can’t see it ending well for PC gamers. Call me the merchant of doom, but holding back specific information is usually nothing more than a damage limitation exercise by developers. The nearer to launch they can get away with telling us, the less noise we are able to make.

The game has been delayed enough times for them to know exactly what’s going on and SD saying they’ll reveal it around launch time is a very bad sign. Surely the more fantastic things we know about the title, the better PR it gets, right?

The only reason they’re not coming forward with such information is simple. We’re not going to like what they have to say.

With the exception of Valve, pretty much all other game dev’s have sold their soul to the console market. You can’t blame them, it’s where the money is at and they are running a business after all. However, it would be nice if at least they were upfront about it instead professing their undying love for PC gaming and telling us that “really guys we haven’t forgotten our roots, we care about you PC gamers” yet their actions speak louder than words.

The fact that we’re not getting any sort of updates on the PC side, is pretty much case in point here. They are focusing to hard to finish the console versions, and we’re a bit of an afterthought. :frowning:

EDIT: Their last game was ET: Quake Wars, that was 3yrs ago. Remember IW and COD4 and their philosophy about PC gamers, then fast forward to MW2 where the philosophy went a little like this:…“Sorry, no lube for you”.

Different publisher, different advertising.

Getting back to the whole /kill thing…

I’m like 90% sure that it’s been said that you can only change your class at a command post, meaning there’s no class switching or loadout switching in between deaths.

(Linsolv) #47

Note, though, that you spawn at command posts.

(ShoryukenII) #48

I think that PC will be better than consoles because they’ve already made good PC games. Maybe they don’t feel the need to prove themselves to PC because they already have. They certainly need to prove themselves to console players. I heard their last game became crap on consoles. It is easier to preview consoles too. Having 30 PS3s is a lot cheaper than 30 PCs that can run Brink as well. They play PC and they want to make a game that they’ll play as well. So I can’t imagine PC sucking. I bet it is all they play at work.

(LyndonL) #49

ETQW on console was outsourced and as such references to it should stop

It’s not just useful for switching class, it’s usefull to move immediatly from your current location to the forward spawn, very handy if it was just capped (or say an objective is about to fall) and you want to spawn there to help defend it or attack from that location.

I am assuming Brink has capturable spawn points as I can’t imagine a SD game without them.

Unless the gameplay is different from previous SD games, if there’s no slash kill guys will find a way to kill themselves or teamkill in order to re-spawn when they need to (side effect of having spawn waves instead of individual timers), so they may as well just bite the bullet and include it.

Last news from Exedore I believe was that /kill is still going to be in it.

Valve, Relic and Blizzard, but yea true not that many anymore. Luckily those three rate amongst the best gaming studios.

(Bullveyr) #53

I read somewhere that Steam has a 70% share of the digital distribution market.

Which imho is sad.
I want to have class and weapon selection menu/script, running to the command post after respawn is just a waste of time.

Yes, this makes me think. Will the command post not be crammed with people trying to switch classes? Thus leaving alot of people queueing up for the command post. I don’t know what kind of effect this will have on the flow of the game.
How many people total can switch classes at the same time at the command post?

Yes, these are some good developers, who still care about the PC market. And if you look at Relic, they have only made PC games and there still here. So you cannot say PC gaming is not where the money is… It’s how you promote yourself to the people and show that you still make the PC kind of games that everybody liked back in the days (features etc. you know the whole package).

But we have to wait and see if Splashdamage wants to be among this list of good PC developers. Or want to go, to the other side like Infinity Ward and now Crytek (Two of the companies I don’t support after seeing what they have done to there PC community/fans).

(Crytiqal) #55
There have been a few articles published on pc parts of gaming web sites.

Why is it that the “hardcore” PC gamer crowd seem more entitled than the console gamers? “You need to give me this” “You need to give me this” “I demand mod tools” “Why aren’t you doing this?”
I want I want I want I want I want
Looool

what about those console kiddies that want DLC and mods and everything the PC version has, without buying the PC game?

(maZiixxxx) #56

Bethesda supports mod tools and still continues to make good PC games. Splash damage as we all know are PC devs so basically Bethesda + SD = perfect match for making PC games. Brink was delayed 1-2 times which means PC is likely to benefit from it.

btw I could be wrong since BRINK is multi-platform.

Some of us could care less and just want the core game.

And some could care less, what’s your point?

Why are you trolling?

Who said anything about the “console kiddies” wanting “mods and everything the PC has, without buying the PC game?”

I would rather play games on my big TV rather than my computer monitor, out in my living room. That doesn’t make me somehow less of a person than someone who has a fancy computer.

(A.i) #60

Its a stereotype thing, I think; same as, “you need 3k pc to play games…”.

So what if I have 3k pc, it doesn’t make me a rich/elitist person
