Well again, that’s a pure personal feeling. To do a full rotation, depending on the speed I move the mouse, it requires me between around 5 cm at low speed and below 2cm at high speed. I’ve never been confortable with huge mouse mouvements to look around. But I feel very used to acceleration. I tried a steelseries sensei for quite some time, with no acceleration available at all and I was missing something. I don’t know, I’m probably fine with dx/dt² functions
What's Your Aim Style and Settings?

That’s odd, I’ve never changed the settings in game except crosshair type and I have hitbeeps on and markers off… o.O

Also, mouse acceleration? I’ve never seen a competitive Quake player ever use mouse accel except if their mouse had it built in. That’s pretty hardcore.
Mouse accel is common among quake players actually, don’t know if it’s as popular now as it was in 05ish, but it’s not too surprising to see it.

It makes a non-linear relationship between your hand’s movements and what’s happening on the screen. It will be much harder for your brain to learn how much to move your hand in order to achieve the desired effect. Basically you will, once in a while, under/over shoot your targets, it generates inconsistency.
TL:DW the distance you move on screen isn’t the same all the time
You wont feel it if you’re used to it until you play out of your comfort zone. If you play a tournament for example and stakes are high, if you’re nervous or want to react as quick as possible so you make the required movement faster than normal you will be off your aim.
I think mouse accel could work just as well with extensive practice perhaps and likely more so in heavy twitch aim oriented game play, but I personally like to have fixed consistency and control- esp for tracking. I get that argument in the video that close range can cause some issues, but it really shouldn’t be that problematic if you have a large enough mouse pad and use your elbow as the pivot. You can still move relatively fast if needed- worst case you grow a Quagmire arm. I did have to clear some major desk space when I switched over though after unintentionally knocking everything off during 360s heh.

what can I say, I’ve restored to ‘factory defaults’ a number of times and always had to turn markers off, and beeps on. The same during transition to steam. Or the fact that many people don’t know hit beeps exist. Alternatively, DBdevs are playing with us, and giving different people different defaults; to see who likes what most

Lol, I know right? Although I do admit I’m guilty of it sometimes as well. I don’t why people do that. Its a disservice to yourself, haha.

Its tough to get used too because traditionally headlining is only important in slower paced games like SF2 and CS:GO. Faster paced games like BL:R and Quake Live don’t require this skill. However DB is fast paced and also requires you to use headlining.

As a Q3 player who still plays Qlive I disagree with this somewhat. It definitely is hard to get used to mouse acceleration. Especially when you have different accel per weapon. But back in the day, if you could get used to it, a person could gain a pretty good advantage in aim.
You could move your mouse really fast and get to a spot only to slow it down and fine tune the aim. It was great for the rail gun but pretty bad for the lightning gun (or any hitscan weapon). It was good for the railgun because you didn’t over/under aim all the time when combined with extremely low sensitivity but it would cause you to under/over aim on hitscan weapons. Also, most people don’t know that people who use accel and low mouse sensitivity do a calibration test by doing 180’s. If you can constantly do a 180 perfectly both ways then you’re dialed in and your consistency will be good. This was pretty key when attending a ton of LAN’s per year.
However, these days I don’t bother with accel outside of Quake since most games don’t handle it right. I mostly just stick with low sensitivity. I run 400dpi with 1.1 in game I believe. So it takes about a 10 inch swipe to do a 180 or so which, if I haven’t played for a while, can make my arm pretty tired. But it’s definitely the best setup for me.
DPI is something that mouse companies put into their mice for marketing. Not because you’ll ever want to use it. You buy the mouse for the optical or laser sensors it uses and how it fits your hand and grip style as opposed to DPI. High DPI and high sensitivity in general does not give a person a reflex advantage. Some people can deal with super high sensitivity and be good but it’s pretty rare and many that I know tend to be less consistent.
In the end it just comes down to play with whatever makes you comfortable and happy. But don’t be afraid to try out new things.

I know some Quake players bind different sensitivities to different weapons. So their LG sens will be lower than their rail sens
Actually, most of the time it was opposite. Rail was usually the lowest sens for most and rail would be a bit higher and no acell. I’m sure that doesn’t cover everyone but that was the most common in the circles I ran with.
I had 1 setting for rail with accell and really low sens, 1 for LG and MG that had no accell but was still low and normal sens that I used for RL and other weapons. I think my shotgun also had it’s own sens. We also changed our reticles, whether or not we showed the weapon or not etc. quite a bit depending on which weapon we pulled out too. It was crazy customizeable. Sometimes I miss that in other games but other times I am pretty happy things are a lot more locked down for simplicities sake. These days I mostly just want to mess with my zoom sensitivity vs. regular.

Oh, well I’m not too familiar with it. I usually just ran a 3500 DPI with a 0.4 sens flat
Just curious, I want to know what you guys play with in terms of sensitivity, dpi, the way you hold your mouse, the way you move it, and your preferred crosshair style.
For me its:
Razer Deathadder 2013
DPI: 3500
Polling Rate: 1000
In-Game sens: 1.6
Crosshair: usually dot or a static + style crosshair with no gap
I usually hold my mouse palm style or claw, with a focus on tracking center mass - a habit from countless hours of Quake LG practice.
(Have been trying to get into the habit of headlining ever since I heard of DB)
Literally the same with the differences being:
DPI: 5000
In-Game sens: Usually around 2.7. Depends how I’m feeling that day.
I do tend to palm a lot more though and need to break myself of it cause my twitching is garbage when it happens. ( I also ten to aim for the upper body more so than the head which also needs fixing)
So i understand most of you use a medium dot crosshair however Ive noticed in mediumish long ranges the girth of the dot blocks out the entire head of the enemy making it tough to aim. For this reason I have switched to a small crosshair and use the tiny dot in the center to aim at heads and the 4 prongs to locate where my dot is (because the small dot is miniscule and hurts my eyes).
Is it possible to get rid of the dot and just have the 4 prongs?

correct, but you also hear a deeper “dong” for bodyshots

I’ve red long time ago than a 1000Hz polling rate was really very cpu intensive, so I always stayed at 500Hz … don’t you suffer any performances drops when moving your mouse ?

Wiimote: highest sensitivity
DPI: who cares
Crosshair: dot if close, crosshair if playing from couch using 60 inch tv and wiimote.
i usually hold wiimote in my left hand, chuck in right. Sometimes wiimote between my legs, because- its a lethal weapon.
Mouse: Logitech Mx518
Windows-speed: fastest possible
Dpi-setting: medium
Dirty:Bomb-settings: 12
