I would play Quake more if:
-It wasn’t just vets left
-It wasn’t just Europeans and Americans left
-There were other scrubs like me
I actually bought Reflex, hoping it would be a successful Quake clone. Forgot that noone in Oceania would play it. Rip.
I’m actually in Australia and there’s generally a server or two in QL every night. Or rather there was before our servers went down for two weeks.
Mostly good players though.
Good is an understatement. It’s like buying CS 1.6 right now, joining a server, and expecting to not get stomped.
I have a gambling problem. I rarely buy mercs as free rotation keeps the game fun and different (I only have Arty because I have his best card in Swiss, Kira because V-5-7, and Fragger is my team is floundering) and instead pour all the credits I get into cases.
I don’t know, but I really want to see how long it’ll take me to get a Cobalt. I’ve already gotten 3 Golds from cases, and that was before I stopped merc grinding.
For me it would be sniping which is what keeping me playing the game. It just satisfying landing head-shots. Even more so if it was with the Revivr. I swear those pings man, they are addicting as hell.
SD should put in some random elements intomaps. Maybe doors that open or close, or changing cover objects. After you play map forty times, you quickly figure out the defensible points and exposed areas. You learn to maximize blind spots and amo locations. Some variation from round to round would mix things up.

This, I always hear people talking about how you shouldn’t spend your credits on cases. But it doesn’t stop me from just pouring all of them into cases and trading up. I got my first Cobalt from trade up the other day, just short of 200 hours, and got one of the Arty cards I wanted.
“So yeah I like FPSs uhh… What can I say there’s nothing like the rush of hunting people down and KILLING em! I mean my heart’s beatin, my heart’s beatin’, My hands are shakin’, my hands are shakin’, BUT I’M STILL SHOOTIN AND I’M STILL GETTING HEADSHOTS IT’S LIKE BOOM HEADSHOT! BOOM HEADSHOT! BOOM HEAD SHOT!!!”
That’s what I am getting at. If you’re playing Dirty Bomb to unlock mercs or see new maps, go play a different game. If the game itself isn’t fun, why even play it at all? If you’re into hollow progression and chasing carrots, play RPGs/MMOs or something. It makes zero sense to play an oldschool style fps and expect meaningless levels/progression/achievements/whatever.
That’s not what the game is built for, not what’s it’s aiming to do. There’s no shame in saying Dirty Bomb isn’t fun, that is a valid opinion. Asking for or expecting random elements from other games or genres, such as pseudoprogression, isn’t just an opinion but also nonsensical. If that sort of thing is what interests you or makes a game fun for you, then go play games with that sort of stuff in it.
And for the record, when I say you, I mean anyone. Not you specifically just because I quoted you or am countering the point you made.
P.S. I didn’t disrespect anyone with what I said. I think adding empty levels or something similar to Dirty Bomb would be garbage fluff and not add anything of value to the game, wouldn’t make it more or less fun. That’s my opinion. It doesn’t mean if you want that you’re a bad person, it’s just logical you shouldn’t play this game. That isn’t disrespect. Just like I’m not calling it disrespect if someone else doesn’t think Dirty Bomb is as good or fun as I think it is.
It’s okay for people to disagree and have different opinions. It isn’t automatically disrespect just because I personally think RPG style carrots being put into Dirty Bomb would be lame or pointless. It’s not like I’m name calling or telling them they aren’t allowed to feel that way. I’m just pointing out it doesn’t make sense to keep playing this game if it isn’t truly fun.
The gameplay is what keeps me playing, but lets be real; this game appeals to a rather nichè demographic.
I enjoy “classic” FPS’, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy chasing carrots as well. I like having goals, and working towards them. That may not always include shaving off a millisecond on my twitch reflexes or whatever. I feel DB has struck an OK balance in that regard. There are carrots, but they are optional from a gameplay perspective.
I come from a RPG background. I realize this has made me want to chase carrots if it makes my character differ in any way from the rest.
Some people say this game isn’t fun. I honestly cannot blame them. I feel exactly the same way about LoL. That game is super popular, but it is so competitve and at times toxic, it just isn’t… fun. Fair enough, then perhaps this game is not for them.
There is room for both casual and pro here though, which is nice. Considering I do not identify myself as a competitive or “pro” player by any means. I can still have some nice games on the public servers.
It still gets on my nerves at times though, I don’t think DB is good for my blood pressure

At the moment, I have nothing fun to do in DB. Just seems like “Find a match, kill people, win or lose, repeat 3 times” which isn’t really fun for me. I want to play but there’s nothing for me to do because there is no advanced progression system either and the current one has no rewards tied to it.
So what motivates you to keep playing?
Right now my only motivation to play is to unlock mercs by earning points from the daily missions* that’s all. Other wise there is literally no incentive to play this game. the fact that there is only one game mode really is also boring (rush is same but only twice). how long can you keep playing objective mode, its no fun after so many hours game.
and right now people playing mercs with just explosive to spam is annoying has hell, getting killed from explosive more than bullets, might as well give all mercs a grenade launcher too.
This game need more maps and another game mode. Just give that early ‘search & destroy’ mode with unfinished maps, its ok. at least it’ll keep us amused

At the moment, I guess unlocking all available mercs. Just short of Sparks and less than 20k to go in credits. After I think I will aim for a cobalt Proxy loadout to replace my Bronze.
Anyhow, recently I just decided to a Aura mission for the credits. Made use of the Alienware Blishok loadout and it was surprisingly pleasant to just run like the wind all accross the map. So when I get fed up with my Nader, Skyhammer, and Proxy squad, I think will have a lot of other mercs to try out.
And I guess in the long run, I suppose I could try to get the best cobalt for each of my mercs. But we’ll see.
Honestly, all I can say is just focus on getting better AND having fun every match regardless of what you are playing. Keep your goals and what you consider fun short term and don’t stress over how long it will take you until you can buy Bushwhacker or worry that there isn’t a carrot once you’ve picked up everything you want. Seriously, I played Q3 for years and years on the same maps. Same with almost every other FPS. What kept me coming back was getting better consistently on those maps. I didn’t need some arbitrary number or unlock and many of you guys probably don’t either. Some of you might. But I am also intoxicated right now and I am hoping you don’t. Regardless, be well and have fun
This is the first FPS game where I am better than all my friends. It feels great to be the best at something for once, at least in a small group. Sometimes it does get boring, and I feel like new maps, mercs, and gameplay options would help a lot. I played Dome a couple of times and that is an amazing map, and I feel like releasing that as soon as possible would help a lot. Also getting the ace badge after mowing down 5 people as Phantom is the best feeling.
Have to agree. Godlike badge was also quite fancy for Phantom.
After all it matters how you play with the merc. Often you become better with the main merc, because you enjoy playing with it more often. Same goes here: I’ve played most of the time with Phantom since he got released and I’m used to play with KEK-10 + katana combination.
Now when I heard that Phoenix can get KEK-10, that made me super happy.
KEK-10 is my favorite SMG in whole game. ^^
