What is the SMART button?

(MatthiasK75) #61

i hope it doesnt, being a console gamer its kind of ingrained into my head to use iron sights

(Damblo) #62

Im on console so to be honest i couldnt care less about PC :3 (dont hate) but unless you have a terrible mouse, holding for sights isnt that bad. Also if sprinting is a toggle thing, thats great! I assume that when you come to a halt you stop sprinting if some of you didnt figure that out.

(Crytiqal) #63

I could’t care less what someone says who doesnt play with PC controls (dont hate)

For me and many other players, holding ironsight is anoying. A simple toggle feature would fix this. And for sprint, holding the button means you can also stop sprinting without having to come to a full stop whereas with a toggle you have to press it again at exactly the right time instead of letting go.

This has been the way all the games I have played and to deny this OPTION to us and FORCE US to use different controls, on a PC GAME, from SPLASH DAMAGE, with the game talking about major CUSTOMISATION it seems like a real console decision.

(Humate) #64

Yeh, i’d say a toggle for ironsights would be nice.
Not that they would be used much.

(Kinjal) #65

Universal Rule? I can see it working on console but how they gonna stop the PC users like me from using a macros program. I’m sure I will find a way to make toggle ironsight, I’m not alone after all, lots of players don’t like hold mechanic, and we will not change our habits just for one game.

(.Chris.) #66

Well I thought the same about the nade ‘problem’ but came to the conclusion that I’ll just wont use nades that much if I cant find nice bind solution, it’s been said that you are not forced to use ironsights and they even posted that with the right upgrades they are not even needed.

(Crytiqal) #67

so basicly we are denied a part of the game with these forcings?

Its like forcing sprint on your numpad and say, hey, you are not forced to sprint!
With the right upgrades and bodytype you can also walk fast

(Kinjal) #68

Grenade mechanics has evolved, as well as sprint mechanics, the reason is console controller, someone like it someone not, but I see a conclusion “wont use nades that much” as a wrong one, mainly because we will never see the old et/etqw mechanics again, it’s gone forever, even the Wolf 2009 has a COD mechanics of nades. And no matter how I like the old mechanic, it’s stupid to swim against the stream. Players have no choice, we have to adapt for a new one.

But the ironsight mechanics is something different, there is no tendency of toggle ironsight dyeing, all games I played for a last years (except APB) offer u a choice, I think its because of developers don’t see a reason of destroying such option, it’s not hard to make it after all.

About “not forced to use ironsights”. First of all, I’m not an ironsight hater, I want and will use it, even if its hold mechanics. But I see such statement as nonsense; Brink is not an ET 2. Exedore is talking about the weapon modules and perks like in COD, yes u can make a character that will not use ironsight on short/mid range, but it’s stupid to think that u will win a duel vs ironsight on a long range. The other side of a problem is – u have to take the hip fire perks (like steady aim in COD) instead of something else, same story for weapon modules (front grip in Cod), and all this efforts for not using ironsight? Because of hold button mechanics? As I said before, I can just use a macro program and escape all that perks and modules sacrifices.

You’re denying yourself access to parts of the game by refusing to adapt to it. I can understand not liking the way something is handled, or preferring to use one method over the other… but refusing to use it on principle is just silly.

(Crytiqal) #70

We shouldn’t have to adapt to it, that’s the issue here. Forcing, imo stupid, mechanics.
A setting with which you can choose to hold or toggle should be in.

In case you missed it:

I’m questioning your idiocy for refusing to use a function because you don’t like it, i’m not questioning your reasoning for wanting it changed.

(Humate) #73

Massive guess but I believe hes saying, he shouldnt have to adapt to it as what hes asking for is a standard feature.

Not that he wont use it.

(DarkangelUK) #74

It was this part that suggested he won’t use it, since he’s not actually being denied it and it’s only a change in functionality, he’s not going to use it.

But as I said, I can understand why he wants it changed… but refusing to use it if it doesn’t get changed is what’s puzzling me.

Well, offcourse I would use it because long range without ironsight is disadvantageous. (<-- is that a word?) But I would still rather have it an option so we could choose toggle or hold.
Or I would also search for 3rd party solutions like a macro, but don’t say that’s problem solved then because a game should not have users be dependant on various software to make it enjoyable for them, where the “normal” mechanics would be a toggle in the first place anyway.

just my 2 cents

(DarkangelUK) #76

I fully agree, which is why I think (hope) Exedore was referring to consoles and not PC.

LOL true. But when you talk and show absolutely nothing about PC controls is it any wonder when people are left filling in the gaps?

(Crytiqal) #78

I told them to close this thread when the OP’s question was answered, but nooooo :stuck_out_tongue:

Can we just clarify something here.

People are expressing concern over how they think the game is going to play on the PC given the scant information provided. Nobody is trolling the thread or attacking Exedore. We’ve been told all along that SD knows PC controls and they can get them right, so is it any wonder that you get a bit of WTF! when something that’s a practical given can be read as a possible contradiction?

I’ve tried to temper my worries until I know more, other have express theirs in more detail but I don’t think we’re at the point of being all drama queens over it. With all due respect to SD but if there was more communication then there would be less speculation.
