What are your combat key settings?

(Gump) #1

Just curious as to what people use for their settings, to see if there’s anyway to improve my own. I use the following:

Wheelup: primary gun weapon with ammo (usually SMG -> pistol -> knife)

Wheeldown: primary class implement (needle, air canister, satchel, pliers, panzer)

Leftbutton: shoot

Rightbutton: duck

Thumbbutton: grenade

C: med or ammo packs, or dyno or smoke

hard to reach thumb button: binos

Caps: pistols (in case my main weapons a K43 and I want to whip out the akimbos for close combat)

Movement: standard keys, space for jump

I avoid any complex multi action scripts cause all in all it has always seemed easier and safer to do them the standard way. However, I would like to figure out a 1 button artillery strike script.

(pgh) #2

Standard WASD as follows.

W = Foward
S = Back
A = Straf Left
D = Strafe Right
E = Lean Right
Q = Lean Left } Leans are the Handiest things ever. Maps like tc_base leaning on the top bridge allows you to see that tiniest bit further down and with binocs (space) you see if someones hitting switch and inc that little bit earlier.
C = Crouch/Double for Prone
Z = 2nd Function/Eg, Load a Gren
Shift = Sprint
Space = Zoom
ALT = Stats/XP Status
CTRL = Top Shots
TAB = Scores
R = Reload

M1 = Fire
M2 = Jump
M3 = Kill
MWUP = FOV Switch UP
MWDOWN = FOV Switch DOWN } Becomes ZoomIn / ZoomOut when enabling a Rifle like Garand/FG42.
` = Console
1-Whatever = Weapons (I have longgggggg fingers with high hand/eye coordination/reflexes. Been tested too :D)

Notes: I do not use QuickChat. But if so, i’d rec’d using V for a WASD config. Most of these settings, at least, the WASD is a long line of ‘Quake Standard’ settings, even since Doom/Duke/Wolfy. Arrows and Ins/Home etc and Keypad isnt as popular anymore to regular and experienced players as there just isnt enough keys in reach. :slight_smile: A decent thing to do if you haven’t used your F Keys is keep these for standard thingys like Yes, No, Ready, Unready, Timeout/Pause, Record, Quick StatsDump, Quit, Screeny etc… or communications. And use the keypad for Quick change things like Class + Spawn scripts. My 2 cents.

(Blade_187) #3

Movement:
Up, Down, Left, Right keys (forward, back, strafe left & right)
right Ctrl - Jump
right Shift - Crouch
Enter - Action

Mouse:
Left button - Primary fire
Right button - Sprint
Middle button - Secondary fire
Scrolling - Scroll through weapons
Left side - toggle FOV
Right side - Walk

keys above the arrows:
Delete = Weaponbank 3
End = Weaponbank 5
PageDown = Weaponbank 6
Insert = Reload
Home = Binos
Page Up = Pistols

F5 - F10 Class selection binds

then various other keys for binds (ie. o = ‘Medic on way! Don’t tap out!’)

(BondyBoy007) #4

try this:

bind X “+zoom; +attack; -attack; -zoom”

(pgh) #5
 • some waits somewhere Bondy…

(BondyBoy007) #6

yep, forgot the waits, but I am in work at the mo and can’t remember everything - if it’s really bothering you I’ll check what I use when I’m back from the office

(Kendle) #7

I’m sure this was done not so long ago but heh!

Having recently re-jigged mine, I’m now using:-

// Reserved Keys
// ---------------------------------------
// MOUSE3	Teamspeak PTT
// 1 - 0	reserved for Ref / RCON scripts

// Keys assigned to Mouse Buttons
// ---------------------------------------
// SPACE	Thumb Button (Mouse5)
// ALT Pinky Button (Mouse4)

// Movement
// ---------------------------------------
bind UPARROW "+forward" // Forward
bind DOWNARROW "+back" // Back
bind LEFTARROW "+moveleft" // Left
bind RIGHTARROW "+moveright" // Right
bind MOUSE2 "+moveup" // Jump
bind CTRL "+movedown" // Crouch
bind SPACE "+sprint" // Sprint (Space = Mouse Thumb Button)
bind CAPSLOCK "toggle cl_run" // Toggle between 'Always Run' and 'Always Walk'
bind ALT "+activate" // Use key (Alt = Mouse Pinky Button)

// Weapon Usage
// ---------------------------------------
bind MOUSE1 "+attack" // Attack
bind KP_INS "+reload" // Reload
bind ENTER "weapalt" // Alternative Weapon Mode (if available)
bind INS "cg_drawgun 1; weaponbank 1"	// 1 - Knife
bind MWHEELUP "cg_drawgun 1; weaponbank 2"	// 2 - Pistol
bind SHIFT "vstr w-bank-3" // 3 - Main Weapon
bind MWHEELDOWN "cg_drawgun 1; weaponbank 4"	// 4 - Grenade
bind END "vstr w-bank-5" // 5 - Smoke Canister / Air-Strike / Pliers / Syringe
bind PGDN "vstr w-bank-6" // 6 - Satchell Charge / Ammo / Dynamite / Health
bind DEL "vstr w-bank-7" // 7 - Landmine / Adrenalin
bind KP_END "+zoom" // Binocs (if available)
bind KP_MINUS "zoomout" // Scoped Weapon Zoom Out
bind KP_PLUS "zoomin" // Scoped Weapon Zoom In

Bearing in mind I’m left handed.

The vstr w-bank-3 binds are set in my Class specific configs, and I use activate + left/right keys to lean (very intuitive as I have activate on a mouse button).

(Sick Boy) #8

I use mouse movement (LMB forward, RMB backward, MB4 sprint)

My other hand is positioned on the left hand side of the keyboard:

CTRL: fire
SHIFT: reload
ALT: also sprint
A: jump
Z: crouch
Q: prone
X: strafe left
C: strafe right
S: lean left
D: lean right
numbers: weapon select

Played with these keys since Q1, which was the first mouse-controlled shooter iirc.

PRO’s:
-All movement is on one hand, which means you can drink/smoke while playing without having to stand still :slight_smile:
-You have your left hand close to a lot of buttons, while able to rest with your palm on the desk (I see some WASD players with their hand in the air sometimes :eek2: )
-It’s a normal position to have you hands in on most desk setups (when playing with the arrows if you’re a righthander will most of the time mean your arms/hands will be close together which is not a good position to sit imo)

CON’s:
-Some people say it’s better for hand-eye coordination to have fire on the mouse because it will make you fire a tiny bit faster
-Everytime you play on someone else’s PC you’ll have to reconfigure all controls because it’s totally different from what 99% uses
-You have to avoid pressing the windows button (that useless button between CTRL and ALT which makes some games crash if you press it :bash: )

(pgh) #9

Bastard being stuck in an office all day innit Bondy :smiley: - just back from work there. Phew.

(BondyBoy007) #10

Piggy, no waits in the command I use - copied directly from my autoexec

bind n “+zoom;+attack;-attack;-zoom”

works fine for me with no waits

(senator) #11

movement: standart keys.

MB1: fire
MB2: jump
MB3: reload
MB4: Weaponbank 5
MB5: Weaponbank 6
MWeel up: Weaponbank 4
MWeel down: Weaponbank 7
space: alternating between weaponbank 2 and 3 and changing from any other weaponbank back to the last used weapon (SMG or Pistol)

(evilsock) #12

Cursor keys for basic movement
Cntrl: Crouch
Shift: Special Weapon 1
/ : Special Weapon 2
. : Special Weapon 3
KEYPD_INS: Next Weapon
KeyPD_DEL: Prev. Weapon
KeyPD_End: Sprint
KeyPD_+: Scope in
KEYPD_ - : Scopte out
DEL: Lean left
END: Bino’s
PAGEDOWN: Lean Right
HOME: Prone
MB1: Fire
MB2: Jump
MB3: Grenade
MW_UP: Reload
MW_DOWN: Machinegun
A: Toggle crouch script

hmm - the more I look at this, the more I realise it’s just my old DooM config with bells and whistles :open_mouth:

(Majin) #13

up/down/left/right = movement
CTRL jump
SHIFT sprint
ENTER +activate
\ reload
DELETE/INSERT/HOME/END/PAGEUP/PAGEDOWN/keypad 7 = weapon selection
kp_ins walk
kp_1 +zoom
M1 fire
M2 crouch
M3 altfire
M4 +forward toggle

prone/kill/other binds scattered on keypad, 8/9/0/-/=/backspace for class and spawn selection scripts

(Gump) #14

I don’t remember what I tried as far as the script (I believe it was similar), but last time I used it, I successfully fired artillery and then proceeded to unload every ounce of ammunition for every weapon I had.

(SiliconSlick) #15

set cg_weaponcycledelay 0
bind MOUSE1 “+attack”
bind MOUSE2 “weaponbank 5”
bind MOUSE3 “weaponbank 1;weaponbank 2;weaponbank 3”
bind MWHEELUP “weaponbank 4”
bind MWHEELDOWN “weaponbank 6”

SiliconSlick

(L2|B4tt3rY) #16

mouse 1 = FIRE
mouse 2 = luger/colt
mouse 3 = weaponbank 6
mouse 4 = smg
mouse 5 = weaponbank 5
scroll up = nade
scroll down = knife ( i dont think no-one realises how useful this is )

ASDW controls, bog standard really

(Toker) #17

foreward = g
left = f
right = h
reverse = MB2
jump = space
crouch = n

fire = MB1
reload = left mouse side
use = right mouse side
scope = MB3

All the weaponbanks are bound around movement keys and quick chats are bound outside of those… At one point in q3 play, someone suggested moving forewards and back under two different fingers, optimally under either hand. That took about a week to really get used to, but now I absolutly love it! I’ve found I can spring into movements much faster now…

(Toker) #18

Does the wheel still zoom the scope with this setup?

(Kendle) #19

Does the wheel still zoom the scope with this setup?
No. I use wheel for Nade and Pistol and it disables zoom in/out in the process, but as I don’t play Covert it’s not a problem for me. I guess you could write a script to re-assign the wheel based on Class selection, but it doesn’t bother me personally.

(BondyBoy007) #20

I don’t remember what I tried as far as the script (I believe it was similar), but last time I used it, I successfully fired artillery and then proceeded to unload every ounce of ammunition for every weapon I had.
Sounds like you may have missed the -attack off it when u tried it
