Awesome and thank you, one of the most powerful points of this game is the fact that it’s a fps with custom characters. I would also say by looking at the amount of customization we have already seen, that we don’t need to worry about the faces.
What about a APB style customisation? More options, detailed slidersytem
It’s a matter of what we’ve become accustomed to.
The standards.
Look at Saints Row 2.
That is basicly what we (or I at least) want this character customization-system to be like.
IMO Saints Row 2 not only looked terrible but also exhibited exactly the sort of quantity over quality approach that SD have said they wanted to avoid with a raft load of sliders.
I think the point is there will be a lot of customisation but only for stuff that results in a natural look for the overall game. Not all limitations are bad.

You beat me to it. I bought SR2 for $2.50 or whatever the other day during the Steam Sales purely as it’s another coop game I can play with my g/f.
I got bored and gave up customising my character about 1/4 of the way through it. Width of the back of the neck, width of the front of the neck… give me a break.

Welll it’s not like you HAVE to customize every single little detail.
I never did.
The custom face is good enough.
But for the people who want to adjust the tiny details in the face, it’s a nice feature.
In what way was that the case?
Still, the face customization isn’t THAT important to me, although I would appreciate to create a face that I find cool.
Though what I hope for the most, which you almost never see, is a good variety in the selection of hairstyles.
The funniest thing about SR2 is they go into such immense detail with facial customisation like the size and tilt of the ear lobes… and yet the actual detail in the game doesn’t allow you to really see it.
That the sheer variety offered ends up in many cases making the game look worse because many people won’t exert the energy required to make a unique AND quality character to play with. IMO it’s better to limit and have a more consistent art style and so experience that give everyone the freedom to ruin the entire aesthetic.
I’ve found this piece on Gamasutra about Ken Perlin’s Law (credibility budget) tends to explain the philosophy well.
A Good point SockDog, I recall people when oblivion came out, no one really bothered to customize that face, as there as so many different things you could adjust that the task was too big to even start it.
Agreed. You’re not asking people to draw the textures for the game while there are some really talented artists available for that.

What do you mean, “become accustomed to?” Brink is an team-based FPS - I haven’t “become accustomed” to character customization on any level. SR2 is a 3rd person shooter/action adventure game - a different genre and entirely different game. It’s like saying, I hope Brink’s ability system is in depth, and at the same level of what we have become accustomed to.
The standards.
Look at Diablo 2 or WoW

Agreed, how many stupid people would make their character look like the pic above because they think its funny. Most online players(I only play console) have horrible taste in humor/ are so immature that custom characters are looked down on in some aspects. I’m glad that there are limits to keep the game’s aesthetics intact.
Also as some one else stated since when have you been allowed any customization in an fps? The most I have ever seen (in a fps) is picking a body and picking a head…from a list…so the little amount we have seen is a great amount more than anything else I have ever seen. That toppled with the amount of custom outfits how could you ask for more?
Thanks for the reply and thanks for everyone’s input, i was hoping i could get a few words from the a developers on this.
I’ve read all your comments and i agree that it would be best to give the player a reasonable set of customisation options but not over the top customisation like APB, so the artstyle is kept intact. I came to the coonclusion that the customisation is mainly for yourself, i for one feel better, when i know i play with a stylish character which fits my taste, so it’s a way to express yourself and deliver a certain wibe, i guess i’m not the only one here
The post with the fat pink police officer was actually pretty funny, this happens when you abuse the custom freedom…
If the devs still monitor this thread: Will you have to unlock the customisation options or are they available right from the start? I can assume you go for a unlocksystem, because it simply glues the player longer to the game.
Take care, comb your hair
I wouldnt. I dont kill people just because they look bad, do you?

^Consider it yours :). Can’t wait to see what the kids look like…
Awesome, so that includes faces?
I already knew I would enjoy unlocking new gear, in game challenges are awesome because they are a way of getting people to play in a way they might other wise not of played, so IMO thats a good thing. Its always very addicting when you know what piece of gear you want and what challenges you need to complete.
Hate the concept of bread crumbing longevity through unlocks. It teaches people that the enjoyment in a game comes from the rewards you gather and not through actually playing of the game. Although I know SD have said they’re also concerned that just spooging all content would be overwhelming too.
Now I wonder why not just unlock content after a period of ownership (not playtime) or through the lifespan of the game itself (you know like when we didn’t charge for horse armour). That way you can dribble out content without it feeding the pokemans hiding in my damn FPS.
