"Weird things" you like to do in ET?

(TAngelo) #1

I’m wondering if anyone else has an unusual habit or two in the game, things that you often do and which are not necessarily normal. I’m not just talking about planting mines in a certain place every time now or anything of the sort, but rather about (something which I personally find fun) putting dynamite inside the tug on railgun as you’re driving it back to the axis spawn. Mind you I never do this unless up against a really awesome team since the map is hard enough already for the axis, but if that is indeed the case then I find it’s always good for a few kills (and laughs!). I’ve never seen other people do it, so I think I might be one of possibly few who thought of the idea.

I’m curious to know what kind of unorthodox tactics you’ve used (or seen from others) while playing the game. Personally I once saw members of the allied team standing on each other’s shoulders at the guns on Siwa Oasis and planting the dynamite that way. Never once saw that repeated a second time though, and when I tried to do it with the help of a teammate once we couldn’t pull it off.
Also had one fellow engineer on FuelDump once take me directly to the axis base (without cvops present), throw a grenade and ask me to stand on it so I would be catapulted over the wall. To my amazement I was indeed shot up into the air, though I didn’t make it over and fell to my death. Tried it again myself after that with a grenade of my own and then by throwing a grenade myself and asking someone else to stand on it, but it turned out that wasn’t surviveable in either case. It also raises the question again of how you do most of the ‘trickjumps’ you see and hear about, since grenades and airstrike flares and such are always instantly lethal to me.

Share some ‘weird things’ of your own please, if possible; I love to have new and unusual stuff to try out in a game

I built a fort out of ammo boxes once. Actually worked on fueldump when two engies and a medic ran right past me as i hid in my fort.

Just be glad a stray bullet didn’t blow you and your fort to smithereens.

Ammo forts are dangerous.

(TAngelo) #4

A fort? LOL!!
Forts rule

(Cerebrate) #5

This is probably not what you had in mind, but I have a ritual of smashing all the windows I can come by in the warm-up mode. This can be very stressy as an Ally on Radar.

I like to do the butterfly-dance while attacking… or inside the bank
or… shoot all the phones…
or… hug my teamies
and stuff :eek2:

Manny,

A couple of points. The stacking outside the Oasis guns is a pretty well established tactic on public servers. Its banned by (probably) every competitive league.

The trick jump videos are often done with teh server setting friendly fire to off. Ergo, you get the explosive effect of motion without the damage.

I love the idea of the fort.

I don’t have any great stories about goofy tactics but I was playing last night while a friend of mine was watching. I was an allied engineer on Oasis. One gun was blown but the axis fell back and put up a strong defense at the second one. After a few runs ending in death I decide to get sneaky. i waited for the axis to spawn then ran behind them and laid mines on their reinforcement route. The amusing part occurs after I finish laying the last mine, stand up and back up.

As I back up I see an axis covert ops who had been standing right behind me. He is now bent over looking at the ground where I had planted a mine (gun out, now binoculars). I could see the gears turning in his head (“Where’d it go?”) when I turn and see three other axis also milling about looking at me equally confused (“He must be a covert ops, but how did he disable that mine?”). My friend and I started laughing uncontrolably and I started shooting… Somehow, I got three of them but the fourth one offed me. We continued laughing and then the mines started going off… got another one or two axis. By this time we were laughing hysterically and my girlfriend had to come into the room to see what was going on. Even she found it amusing.

In warmup mode I like to lay on the floor, take out my knife and start stabbing everyone (and everything!) that is in front of me  while my whole team looks down and looks amazed

If I’m feeling cocky I run to the objective backwards beginning from where I spawn.

Of course… I don’t always make it. But there’s been a few times… :drink:

(ETplayer) #10

sometimes i just like 2 block my own teams airstrikes by sitting on them

also i like to make the swipping sound when we run from the spawn, u know the knife sound, makes it sound like theres a cov op amongst ur team… (got someone killed this way :P)

hmm lemme c…

o and when i feel like it , im gonna stick close 2 someones body, liek 1 cm between, caused me a few laughs 2 :bump: :drink:

I don’t have that many quirks…

…I always when on railgun, will switch to nade when I’m on the tug. The first sign of trouble I drop it in the tug and disembark. Half the time, the attacker comes after you instead of the tug. the other half the time, it’s bad guy brains for breakfast

…When playing engie and I’m walking through a popular mining area, I do a nice little jumping dance. I jump+sprint forward from standing, then as soon as I touch down, I crouch and tap backwards to cancel out forward movement. Must look very bizarre to onlookers, but is great for avoiding mines, or not setting off those you don’t avoid.

…mining tip - oasis. The cave tunnel. There’s a small hill just inside the cave exit, if you plant two mines on the axis side of this hill, you can completely block off the cave, and because it’s over a hill, covertops are extremely unlikely to spot them in time

…Ice skating - on railgun. Just for kicks, when playing as allies, sprint towards the frozen lake and as soon as you touch ice, go prone and you skid across on your belly. Good for stress relief.

On Oasis, I help clear out the North Anti Tank Gun room and then go steal a uniform. The eng goes to plant. So I walk up to the doorway and begin acting like a total idiot (still wearing axis clothing). So I basically ended up doorblocking like 6 axis trying to get through until the one in the front finally decides to shoot me. But they still managed to get the diffuse though. :frowning: but it would’ve been awesome if i did manage to help win the game that way.

Also when I have stolen uniforms, I like to find enemy mobile mg42’s and just sit on top of them. This is somewhat effective cuz when you stand on top of a person in prone, their horizontal movement becomes limited. I once made the same mg42 deploy like 4 times cuz he was so confused at why he could move so little.

As an Ally, on Gold Rush at the beginning of the game, deploy mines all over the Axis rear spawn and Tank Barrier #2 area. So when the tank gets stolen, the Axis start rushing out of the rear spawn and all get killed.

Put dyno inside the tugs on Rail Gun.

If your body gets wounded on top of a mine, wait until an enemy gets near you then tap out. Right when you tap out the mine will explode.

On railgun (Allied side) Run full speed to the ice, jump on it and lay down… looks pretty funny when a soldier is moving like that

(Rippin Kitten) #14

If you stop moving forward when you go prone on the ice, you can still shoot or stab with your knife. Good for stabbing people as you slide by.

heh, when i’m REALLY bored i try find someone who is mortaring on my team and jump onto them. I reapeat this till they whip out their pistol as soon as they see me!!

(thore) #16

actually you won’t do this any longer when it’s me who’s mortaring… as i
really can’t stand people who’re behaving linke nuts. if ppl join our server
most of the time i expect them to play some nice game and not fooling
their teammates. i mean if your team has a hard time trying to win they
surely won’t really find it useful to have someone sitting on teammates :bump:

no really, it’s not funny.

regarding those ‘habits’ i have to agree with cerebrate, as i run around and
shoot windows too. while in game i really try to make funshots with my loved
rifle grenade… straight ahead kills aren’t really that entertaining, so first of all
i try to get some kills by shooting at a wall or obstacle. those bumb-off
kills really are the greatest way to get someone out of his hideout

those ‘forts’ are a great thing to do on common sniper games… remember
fuel dump at 3 minutes after the game started, when axis sniper lay on
the hill. all you need is have some medic or field ops dropping his health
or ammo packages right at the top of the hill in a line. if the axis covert
ops hides behind one of those packages he might easily shoot through it,
but allied players (non snipers) would often shoot the wrong package as
all they see are some green packages… too far away to really see where
the axis sniper is behind…

(twiFight) #17

I find that when you have no enemies to fight or a medic/field op won’t give you health/ammo is an excellent time to do some morning gymnastics!

crouch, jump, crouch, jump, crouch, jump
come on guys, everybody!
to the left aaaand to the right, to the left aaaand to the right and up and down and up and down

really, it’s quite fun, some teammates will ask “wtf are you doing?” and it usually gets the attention of the medic/fieldop so you get what you want

(twiFight) #18

not really an odd thing, yet an excellent strategy
I use it myself too, although I don’t pley engie often anymore.

I have seen others using it too and it’s really a quite effecting way of stopping the first and/or second enemy coming out of the tunnel so you can easily kill the rest with your SMG

(Loffy) #19

This is not an unique thing, I dont claim that I am the only one doing it. But I do it a lot and it is kind of wierd/unortodox in gameplay (public). On Battery, as allied, I play engineer. When we finally (after several minutes of constant bombardment from the axis) get the ramp up and we start to run up the ramp, I run straight ahead. (Especially if I “feel” that going for the flag is pointless. Like when axis just spawn fresh and Im alone survivor and Im still 20 meter from the flag.)
Often, I get in the building. But one must sneak. If one of those axis see you, it’s a bad thing.
Eventually, I get to the gun and plant.
// Loffy

(damocles) #20

I do that one too. You just belt it form the ramp to the door and don’t look back. It’s amazing how once you drop down into the trench type area behind the hill, the axis just seem to forget you are there. I’ve even seen it where they open fire on me but as soon as I drop down, they forget about me. Also, you can usually gauge the amount of interest you get from the axis, so if you feel you are being followed, I drop a nade in my tracks. Sometimes two - one at full fuse and one at shorter fuse to be sure.

The only drawback is that if one of your teammates happens to be on your tail then he might be a bit miffed and think you were trying to get the objective alone.

The strat works like a charm though. The other day I used this strat. We had the ramp up in less then 2 minutes and I belted it through, planted and we won in about 3.5 minutes. The axis were all “wtf - who let him in the back door?”
