We have buffs... But...

(L00fah) #41

How does that apply to the operative at all?
And how has he been “screwed” at all? It’s among the most potent classes right now.

(knippon) #42

They should just remove buffs all together.

(L00fah) #43

That’s a terrible idea. Go play Battlefield if that’s what kind of game you’re looking for.

“Hey, they should remove one of the key defining elements of this game!” … Retarded. -.-

Yes, with the least options to interact with teammates and overall irrelevant to objectives, operative is TOTALLY the best class. If it’s the most potent class, how come I only see one operative in any given team when it’s not a hack objective?

What I meant is that a class gets something similar to one of the operative’s abilities, but better. It’s like if you gave engineers the ability to deploy UAVs that could shoot bullets.

I love when people over-exaggerate like that to be dicks… God I’m sick of the internet these days.

I said it’s among the most potent. As in, it has the one of the highest potentials. A good Operative has more capability in-game to turn the tides than any other class, aside from the Engineer.
****ing sue me for having a different opinion.

… Sooooo by giving a totally unrelated class a deployable, stationary item it makes an Operative skill useless…?
Interesting theory… But it still makes no sense.
I don’t understand how some of these players are so easily capable of ignoring differing functions and utility of different abilities or skills…

By that logic;
All mines > caltrops/sticky
Turret/Healing Beacon > UAV
Downed Fire > Cortex Bomb
Any grenade > Any Operative Grenade

(Ix LP xI) #46

What I meant is that if someone uses the operative because, for unknown reasons, he really likes the caltrop, he might be tempted to choose the other class because it has a similar deployable and is more useful.

The only advantage the caltrop has over the mine is that it can damage multiple people and it can be thrown.

(L00fah) #47

And it’s overall function is entirely different.

That and I don’t know any players who like the operative due to a single ability. = /
If anything, it’d be disguise.

I get your point, but it makes no sense and is EXTREMELY unlikely.
Yes, they are both stationary objects that deal damage in SOME manner to enemies… But to compare the two is absurd.

Caltrops damage enemies that run through them, either forcing enemies to slow down or panic due to “Random” damage. They don’t deal a lot of damage and I’ve had very few kills with them… They are more a diversion than damage.
The health-stealing beacon is just that… A beacon that saps health from the enemies regardless of how fast they’re in it. I imagine it’d deal MORE damage. As well, some people have suggested it’d actually give health to allied players when they pass through it.

They are very different an you’re only looking at the bare basic mechanics… That really make no effect on gameplay.

(knippon) #48

what’s retarded is making buffing the most important element in a shooter. I wonder why comp is dead in this game.

(L00fah) #49

What’s more retarded is assuming all games only have one way to play them.

(BioSnark) #50

Splash Damage took a much more shooter oriented approach to the debuffs in Brink.

The parasite wallhax tracking, radar visibility, emp disable and flashbang only last for a limited period of time while the buffs last indefinitely. Ammo makes sense but the other buffs should have had their effect fade over time so they would be equally timing based. I guess xp distribution would be a minor concern if it wasn’t possible to distribute the xp when the boostee dealt boosted damage or was protected by boosted health as is done in other games.

Again, the timed debuffs are good as they are in either a vs shooter OR an arena arpg. The buffs aren’t.

EDIT: this topic mentions an absence of debuffs. wtf?

(L00fah) #51

There aren’t really many debuffs by comparison… Hence the point. You should probably read the main body of the OP, buddeh.
All your points are covered there.

(INF3RN0) #52

I brought up the idea of debuff nades for the operative class about a week after release, but it was never acknowledged by anyone with actual power over the game development. I really doubt the game’s going to see much more new content anyway, and I had bigger priorities to begin with as well. Slash care at this point…

(BioSnark) #53

@l00fah: Nope. You said there’s no form of debuff in your OP… Then you said there are 2 debuffs. I said bullsht on both counts + why the buffs vs debuffs aren’t balanced.

(L00fah) #54

Why do people assume I’m trying to lobby these into game? I am only asking for peoples’ opinions.

Being an ass hole isn’t going to prove your point.

There aren’t any DIRECT debuffs, as in - affecting the actual potency of a particular player. I noted Flashbangs and Caltrops as being the only two “debuffs” in the game.
I’m done talking to you about this though, I really don’t feel like dealing with another anonymous keyboard-warrior’s attitude.

(BioSnark) #55

You never refuted my point.
I noted Flashbangs and Caltrops as being the only two “debuffs” in the game.
And I gave others in my post but never mind that… You ask for criticism in this thread and yet you’ve been the one who is an asshole to everyone who offers it. Next time, don’t ask or don’t be an asshole when you receive what you requested.

I don’t need to justify anything to you.
Time to move on, kiddo.

(BioSnark) #57

Indeed, you do seem unable to justify much.

(L00fah) #58

Mmkay. Can you call it quits now? You’re just embarrassing yourself at this point.

(Verticae) #59

Actually, I’m pretty sure he’s doing a lot better than a certain person in this thread who has a major holier-than-thou attitude.

And who thinks Brink is supposed to be an RPG.

(L00fah) #60

lol @ you thinking I want this game to be a pure RPG.
I’m beginning to wonder if ANYBODY bothered to read anything I have said in its fullest… And IF anyone did, I’m doubting this community’s overall reading comprehension.

Your passive-aggressive attack is really sad. At least Bio-Snark had the balls just to be completely honest about it.
And I would like to know where this “holier-than-thou” BS came from. You guys are VERY CLEARLY only reading select responses (of which have been like… five at tops).
I am done justifying anything to you guys.

This has been by far the most irritating, irrational, rude and purely insensitive community I think I may have ever met (and I used to frequent 4chan).
Any negative responses or counter-arguments on here are automatically read as heresy and “holier-than-thou” (thanks for that phrase) attitudes.

What is with the internet’s inane ability to reflect the user’s apparent social inadequacies on others? Hm.
And I love how, despite being the non-aggressor and trying to END a pointless (AND off-topic) argument, the guy who was childishly attacking me is the “good guy.”
This place is ass-backwards.
