Better use the search next time, there are so many topics about it. It is said VOIP is included.
Could you point me to where SD say it’s going to have VOID ? As far as I remember, they responded by saying there will be voice communication in form of voice chat. So no microphone, but pre-recorded voice messages.
Which is better as long as
a) 12 year olds exist
b)There’s more than 1 language
c) software can’t do perfect voice recognition, translation and synthesis.
Most people can’t use mic properly, same for custom text binds. They’re not bad by definition, but I’ve seen too many red-black team messages (hint: totally unreadable), Some people just shouldn’t be trusted with too much freedom. Voice messages are nice, standarised, parsable and efficient.
According to the unnofficial FAQ, voip is in there. You can question RosOne about the validity of that statement, as he said he got all his info from interviews and magazine previews.
I hate CS for having mic chat, i dont like having to hear, or talk on the mic to complete strangers. I would rather have QW to have the ET chat system.
Yea, got an e-mail about that exact question recently. Here you go, it’s on page 4.
ANY PLANS FOR INCLUDING VOICE OVER IP?
Paul Wedgwood: Yeah, VoIP is in already.(…)
It has that too. :D[/quote]
Well, I don’t know, maybe if I’d have though about it while writing it. Not sure if it’s worth the trouble now… anyway… I don’t know :moo:
Is VOIP really that big of a selling point?
I use Teamspeak and Ventrillo, both of which are not system hogs and work fine in ANY game. I never understand why dev’s must reinvent the wheel (and ultimately push the release date back, even if its only a few days).
By not including VOIP, you reduce the amount of voice spam by a ton. UT2004 is prime example where some idiot must play his music over it or continually talk and ruin the game for others. If you make the gamers use a 3rd party program like Teamspeak and Ventrillo, this voice spam is undeniably much less - probably because users of these programs understand how to use voice chat ingame rather than just being presented with a tool to annoy others built in.
In all games with VOIP you can TURN IT OFF. Yes, you do have idiots who abuse it but also it brings a lot of positives such as co ordinating events (which seems is gonna be big in ETQW with completing objectives) , asking for help and brings a sense of teamplay. If you dont like it turn it off simple.
for a game like et:qw which as said above is supposedly HEAVILY based around teamplay, voip is a MUST if you want a decent public game. The amount of times I’ve wanted to shout at people on ET pubs because they are not helping out the team is ridiculous. So watch out for someone barking orders in et:qw named fusen \o/
But do you really think they will listen/understand/comply in any higher degree than when you type your orders in teamchat or use voice chats?
My words Sauron… the noobs can’t be helped :bash:
I d say the reason why to put it in mainly is: the other games have it as well.
It might improve coordination, but I really don’t want to listen to some 12-year-olds from whereever shouting at others in broken english cuz the game s not going the way they want it to. At least the VoIP should have push-to-talk ONLY.
Hope you don’t mind me borrowing your words then.
Push-to-talk ONLY sounds like a good idea, though server admins should be able to allow voice activation.

what if there was say a 5 second limit to sever message sent so the message could be stored and sent but not quite at real time allowing the message to be sent and then played rather then streamed so its not demading a constant conection
althout that could slow down comunication and make the advantages of using VoIP usless… oh well :disgust:
Ventrilo? Teamspeak? When I play ET I like to talk to my friends, not some punk 14 year old with no sense of maturity/humour and has more time on his hands to become t3h 1337 b1g b0110cks. With VOIP there MUST be the option to mute everyone.
muting everyone would be a good idea, but why not just have some severs with voip and some servers without, and if u dontwant to listen to someone mute them. Its really not worth taking out an important aspect of the game cause someone whos too lazy to turn voip off or mute someone is having to listen to an annoying 10 year old yell about nothing. I mean grow some balls and deal with it.
Sigh Even the smallest aspect of this game, gets a topic. I bet if there’s VOIP there’s a way to turn it of so who cares… Use it if you want it, if not, disable it, big deal.
I hope you can limit any voice chat to your fireteam (so you won’t get anything from players not on your fireteam).
