VietNam : Ambush TC

(KillerKind) #101

How about a PBR? Here’s one I started on today. Still have some work to do, but it’s a good start.

(KillerKind) #102

We’ve just setup a new IRC channel for the mod. Feel free to stop by and chat - irc://irc.gamesurge.net/VNAmbush

I am under the impression that getting moving vehicles into the ET engine is a rather difficult task. Is this true?

(pgh) #104

Afaik yeh. Read so many posts where peeps say that such and such is possible then others saying its not. My advice, I wouldnt bother with it. Not worth the hassle of attempting to implement something as such when another option is already there.

If by ‘moving’ vehicles you just mean like the Tank? Then its a case of say, ripping Fueldump and looking at its code. Again, afaik all it is is basically a model or whatever set on a path of points of where to go when whatever action has been done. Eg, a player nearby. And, like the Tank… you can just replace the model with whatever you see fit. I think. Would check on that…

As for the Parachutes idea. Look at WolfTactics for RTCW. Was a great mod while it lasted (one clan game :D) and one of its levels had a Parachute drop it as a selectable spawn… was fun floating down with a RL or sitting on a balcony Sniping up… Guess if you approach there team they’d let ya at the code hopefully.

But, as I already said… as far as im aware (never really looked into wars apart from WW1/2.) most of there drops were done by boat. A suggestion from this is on its way to KillerKind.

Thanks for your input pgh, much appreciated. I think for the first release it may be best to, as you say, not bother with it. I will be happy with static map models for now, such as the PBR shown above. I’m sure I will make the guns functional, but the PBR itself will be fine as static, strategically placed of course.

Also, our official website has been launched - http://rtcw-prison.planet-multiplayer.de/hosted/vietnammod/
It’s still under construction, and will be updated often. Mad props to Pencil and http://www.rtcwprison.de for hosting.

If you missed the post above, we also have a new IRC channel up - irc://irc.gamesurge.net/VNAmbush
Please feel free to drop in any time!

Tbh, the first couple of builds you make should be kept to yourselfs and others you may wish to look at it. The first proper test build imo should be kept to a minimum of having a number of the features and new additions implemented. Even if it is say, 2 out of 5 weapons functioning somewhat ‘decently’. Things that should be included over time i’d say:[ul]
[li]Test Map. Large Open area and Enclosed Bunkers/Buildings. Even if it is just a couple of these itll let you push the engine to a strain to see how FPS and Netcode can stand in game.
[/li][li]Weapons. Especially the Animations up to scratch… even if it is, as I said above, a couple of em it’ll let ya get ya head round things, check things are going smoothly (eg, Modeller did model 100% perfect, dodgy looking clips etc) and general feel how how things are.
[/li][li]Features. Mouth is shut here tbh but any new features, such as things players can do/interactions… include these over time and take things slow. Make sure bits and pieces are tested thorough.
[/li][li]General balance. ALWAYS keep this 100% top of the list. Balance is everything. NO ONE wants to play a game where one side will always win or at least, has no worries about not holding somewhere…
[/li][/ul]

Other than this m8 check yer PM.

hm

stupid question:

since americans (read CIA) messed up big time in/with vietnam… then… who will be the ‘axis’ (red team)?

:stuck_out_tongue:

(Dave) #108

Killerkind has been working hard getting all the weapons in-game. Still missing a few, but they should be done in a few days.

(TFate) #116

I can’t even see it, it’s not loading for me. I did see it earlier though, and it was pretty flashy (no pun intended!). But there was NOTHING ON IT! All the good images are right here in this topic…

(Dave) #117

Our host is down right now but should be back up shortly. The site is still under construction. You’ll find most of our progress in our forums.

(ToeD) #118

i cant autoconnect to gamesurge, why are you on that network anyway? :open_mouth:
use quakenet

(pgh) #119

Swat I suggested.

Websites fine, far from being highly accessible tho. Ditch the Framed HTML idea tbh and use CSS/Divs.

([AE]HawkeyE) #120

My God those weapon models are fan friggin tastic! phenomenal even, great work guys! Also, if you choose to keep the hueys static adding an M60 on the side doors would be a nifty feature as many in Vietnam did.
