Unofficial "Empty Server List" Fix

(melonchollymel) #441

thanks so much—I will try it…

(melonchollymel) #442

Hi again rudi…I have the proxy service installed and my in console says “etmaster.idsoftware.com resolved to 127.o.o.1:27951 requesting servers from the master…”
But then nothing happens…I also tried to connect to a server manually by typing in an address (but not sure if address is valid since it’s been so long since I played).
Sorry to be a dunce, but don’t know what to do now…any suggestions???
You are a very patient person to keep up with all of this—not sure if others realize your dedication—but I appreciate it for sure!!!
Thanks for all of your efforts…

(Rudi) #443

This is correct.

Can you go to Start --> Run, then type ‘services.msc’ and hit OK, from the list of services check that ‘ET Proxy Service’ is running, if not, right click it, and click Start, then try again.

Find a valid server on trackbase or SL, and see if you can connect to it, the issue may not be with the proxy service at all.

(BigBear) #444

You all be Right too

We want WET alive… we need as possible to work together.

But dying of WET have been increased since those lasts times…
By the end of Even Balance support for ‘new GUID/etkey creations’ and since “end” (?) of ID Sofware Master Server List support…
All is said.

Maybe mail harassment will stop now they “said it will not get back”.

(blindman100) #446
OK, so again:

 • OMG ET is dying! I think 3 or over years is quite long for dying.
 • ID and SD made this game, so I think a little link isn’t too much effort.
 • Man, I know you and some love the game (So do I), but you can’t just sum up by “A reason why players are not playing WET is certainly because they certainly ignore that WET is existing.”: the game is old, old graphics, troubles to run on newer systems (Vista/7/New Linux-Mac versions), the anti-cheat has dropped, it suffers DDos stuff, it has 2.55 main installer used quite a lot, when latest version is 2.60b for Windows, it has not master server list by default… Be objective!
 • About WET, thought the same thing, but I don’t care x) ET is fine as well.
 • Waypoints… I were motivated yesterday to update some ones I’ve as WIP, mapping takes time as well, studies even more, sorry.

I forgot some things, but I think I said enough :)
Well said.

(rorgoroth) #447

No new developments, they say? That’s fine, it could have been much worse news.
Still down for other games too, rq3 got themselves master-lists too now and seem to have word they (at least q3) may not be coming back so who knows.

Gonna’ have to lay your luger under your pillow and pray before you fall asleep ladies and gentlemen

(Mateos) #448

In Village cemetery? (If I’m not wrong on map name x) ) :stuck_out_tongue:

(melonchollymel) #449

K so I checked and I have “ET Master Service” but I did not see a proxy service listed—I am truly sorry to be such a pain----now what??? I am not discouraged yet so if you have suggestion I am all eyes…thanks again

(cheesy) #450

That means the service running.

Uninstall everything and reinstall ET, PB, then host service and try “run as administrator” if using Vista or Windows 7 , then try it

Did you edit the host file manually? If so, maybe it is conflicting with Rudis service, not sure

(Rudi) #451

Well, it resolves to 127.0.0.1 so it’s not a host file issue. I think it might be an outbound connectivity issue if going straight to a server doesn’t work either.

I’ve sent you a PM anyway, melonchollymel (and you cheesy whilst on the subject!), if you get back to me I will be happy to take a look at your machine and see what’s actually going on.

(acQu) #452

Is it up again ?!

(cheesy) #453

Here is a link to ET Setup 2.0 installer manager, for those of you willing to help test it. Remember, this is not a traditional all-in-one “installer”. It is a batch script application that manages the installation of OTHER applications. The whole point of this, is so the end-user never has to go website hopping to get everything they need (i.e., ET, PB, etkey, master list, vista fixes…etc)

Cons:
It’s not designed to be cool or pretty
May not work on some systems
May give false antivirus alerts with some software (this happens all the time with batch apps)

Pros:

 • Its gets everything you need to play ET working
 • It will always install the latest version of each application
 • It runs an update before installing, therefore it should never become obsolete
 • It will download ET if the user does not already have it

It does not have 2.60b, that will always be a seperate patch for those that prefer that list. Since 2.60b is patched server-side now, the client is optional, and mainly for etpro players.

This link is only temporary
ET Setup 2.0, Installer Manager (beta)

Feel free to stress-test it on Windows XP, vista, or 7 and report any bugs to me via PM
Its beta, so do not publish this version anywhere else. I am doing it here, because I want this community to help test it.

(badman) #454

FYI, I’m trying to get an update on where things are currently at.

(Domagoj) #455

Thx badman

(tjimboo) #456

bit amazing how it took the community less then 7 days to get proxy’s and alternative masterlist and 3 months later ID has nothing but a vague twitter post that they are looking in to it.

(Mateos) #457

Please, let’s not start again this discussion… I mean, thanks to Badman to keep us in touch, and let the news come and not again 20 pages of complaining and solutions already said 10 times in other threads… Hope people will see where I have my point.

(Patriotqube) #458

yeah well we maybe doo, dosent mean we all agree on what you say tho, i myself find it rather naive, and btw who made you the one with the only right opinions here?

@tjimboo

+1

(Patriotqube) #459

Thanks for your effort

(Mateos) #460

Just wished.

And please pay attention to edit button

Edit: Ah and can you point where I said I have “the only right opinions here”?
