there is a difference, of course, between the demo (client/server) fps settings, and the fps in which they were dumped to screenshots/avi’s. Whilst 25fps aint the smoothest, i think it’s fair trade off in terms of quality, and filesize when compressed.
most frag movies looks poor at low fps because they are not motion blurred like real life is, and this can help improve the impression of speed. Really, i use 25fps because the tv standard we use here in the UK, but with interlacing it translates to 50fps (half resoultion). So, feel free to do that to keep your filesize of movies down, otherwise they’ll be huge, as already mentioned.
bludd, you can stfu and stop whining about trickjumpers cheating when you are a member of the www.multiplayercheats.de et clan and download aimbots to beat your competition!
Nice site, you frequent it often? I’ll look for this other Bludd there and try to figure out why you think he’s me (this has been covered before on these forums). And BTW, don’t even give us the tired old line about “checking out cheat sites to monitor them and see what cheats exist, but you don’t use them”, because if you’re hanging out at cheat sites, you use the cheats, period. That said, I’m certainly not above trying them out myself, and thanks to you, I now have a nice place to find some.
hah.
P.S., Please show me where I said trickjumpers were cheating? I said I’m not convinced those jumps can be made on a default installation of ET without cvar tweaks.
I’m not convinced that anyone with a decent knowledge of ET doesnt tweak. No who knows plays it with default settings. And it’s very rare to run run into someone who isnt new to the game who does.
What a *****in idiot, posting a direct link to a cheat site? now we just gotta hope a admin deletes this before load sof newbies visit it and we get another 100 cheaters in ET
wtf? ever heard of punkbuster? and they catch most cheats by people reporting them… so then some people do have toc heck sites out to find latest then email them I’ve done it to about 7 cheats now which without my email they would have sat there for another week or two. so saying that comment your either a dumb ass or you are Bludd from that forum =P
PB isn’t perfect, but after seeing a number of people get caught I have to say that we should be happy that they actually support a free game.
IRT Bludd:
Regarding the link above I think it’s perfectly legit for e.g. server admins to even download and test the cheats (on private servers!) so that they know what to look for in PB screenshots. That doesn’t mean that they cheat, just like the fact that you know the URL doesn’t mean that you cheat.
There is however no excuse for trying cheats on public servers, and no need to post links (or quote them) to cheats on public forums.

Good point about it being a free game, and the testing purposes. I’m going to download a few hacks, try them out with a friend of mine, and look for some real cheating symptoms (I don’t run PB)
Just mind that I won’t use them in public (Remind me to remove the hacks from my ET folder :P)
If what you’re saying is right, then Bludd is correct in saying that you cannot do these jumps with an “out of the box” installation. You do need to tweak shit. You just said so yourself.

No, I said they would make the jumps easier. A lot of these jumps can be done without doing any tweaks at all, but you can increase the success rate of them by adjusting the variables I listed in my post.
I did a good portion of the jumps, or thought them up for the ET Trick Jump Movie. The only setting changed that would actually help in jumping… was caping the FPS. Nothing else was changed. Ok, so maybe I did a /name (heh). And you can try to do these jumps for 4,000 hours, but if you wont know how to strafe jump, you are wasting your time. If you dont strafe jump well, theres no lucky chance your going to get one of the more difficult jumps.

Wrong. It mostly catches older versions they know of. The fact the coders know what PB is lookin for each time a version comes out its kinda obvious they’d stick on top. Its always been the case.
And, if you look, you’ll find my nick iirc on one or two of those sites from before. And again, instead of being a cheater and using these, at the time I was an admin who had to test/keep reg checks and updates of these…
Does anyone have any detailed instructions for “strafe jumping”? And why does it work anyway? I tried googling for it but all I could find was vague nonsensical text descriptions that appeared to say you should run away from the jump you’re trying to make, or Quake3 demo files (and I don’t have Quake 3 to view them on).
I was wondering this myself too. what does strafe jump really mean? I figured that it ment that you run, strafe and jump you actually go litte faster than just run and jump.
I think you run forward constant speed despite are you moving sideways. So you are actually moving more than just running forward. and combine that to jumping that is faster that running. This is only humble opinion. So prove me wrong.
Hop on over to TrickingQ3, they have good tutorials on strafing. Tho it is kinda handy to be able to view demos… but not absolutely nicississarry (never could spell that).
Tbh strafing in RTCW/ET is no where near as complex as it is in Q3. For one you can’t do continious strafing in RTCW/ET so you don’t get the same acceleration. There’s no ups meter either (Units Per Second… a Q3 speedometer if you will, maybe a modder could make a small add-on for us? :)), so you can’t really tell how much of a boost you’re getting in regards to strafing or circlejumping a gap.
The circlejump is performed more or less the same way as in Q3. What it does is give you a a boost when you take off from you’re 1st jump. This is what it says on TrickingQ3. Since you can’t view Q3 demos, here’s a small one i made on RTCW map Assualt. DA Strafe Demo
Ok, notice how I face at a 90 degree angle to the direction I intend to go. What I am doing is setting up for the first step in a circle jump. I face at that 90 degree angle and when I start, I turn my mouse to face ahead and at the same time press forward and the strafe key that takes me towards the edge… When I hit the edge I jump. What that 90 degree turn did was maximize my starting acceleration. By the time I hit the first platform I am moving close to 500ups.
I would love to know the ups in RTCW/ET. If you’ve ever played Q3, here’s an example… normal walking speed is 320ups, a rocket moves at 900ups, avg speed when strafing round a map is 6/700ups… that’s double the walking speed. As you can see there’s a big advantage to strafing in Q3. But since you can’t do continious “bunny hopping” in RTCW/ET, then there’s no real advantage to it. The only advantagious jump i see in those games is the circlejump. The lack of bunny hop effect doesnt boost you in anyway… cos everytime you stop, you go back to walking speed so there’s no momentum to build. There’s is a very slight advantage to doing it in RTCW/ET as even tho you cant bh, you still get that small boost with each jump… so doing a continious repetion of strafes will put you ahead a bit, but not by much.
Here’s a very short video i made of strafiing in Q3. I start off with a circle jump… notice how im almost at 500ups before i even land for the 1st time… and by the end im at 1060ups… that’s over 3x as fast as walking pace in a short distance.
