Oi! That U2 - Elevation (Influx or smt Remix) rocked… made me smile! The movie itself was good but again, seen most of the jumps before and the Battery section was laughable? Whats the deal with the hops down the hill? This happens if you just jold foward and jump anyway
Trickjumping in Enemy Territory Movie
i watched this cool movie, but one of this jumps looks impossible…Can any 1explain to me how some 1 can get across
I have to agree with puubert. I’m a ‘silent tricker’, ive been tricking for ages but never really made my stuff known. Hops do nothing for me, especially if they go nowhere really. I enjoyed the movie, and there were some really nice jumps. But i prefer jumps to places where no one else can seem to get. Here’s a couple of demos i made a while back. I mean like early last year june or so. I redid them using sv_fps 72 (same as my com_maxfps) as to make them smooth. Took me ages to figure that one out… doh!

You get all these people spouting “blah blah they’re no use in game”. Some are, some arent… either way it’s not the point. Trickjumping is fun and in a way, satisfying. It’s good to know you’re part of a select few people that can get up to that hard to reach area. I do it for fun and really enjoy it. I try my hardest to find jumps not yet done before. It’s like a challenge as well.
And just to add, ALL those jumps… the ones i did and in the movie are possible with normal server/client settings. I use the same fps on those jumps as i do when playing normal. The only thing i change is when im searching a map for new jumps… i use nofatigue to save waiting on my sprint bar charging up. But i have done a few of those jumps in games and they save alot of time. All it takes is practice to pull them off consitantly.
Only thing I love doing more than Trickjumps is outrageously impossible shots.
Playing Radar bout 3/4 days ago on SD and was an Axis Engy with Rifle Gren above the back spawn (You know, the bit with the Ladder and Chute) and Psycho_Al (Medic iirc) grabbed the Left Side parts near other spawn… proceeded to run towards main gate only for myself to launch a gren right over the bridge hitting on the roof above the main gate and right onto Psycho_Als head. :]
But, while im on the Trickjumping movie thread gonna ask for a bit of advice. Running a 2.6ghz Athlon, 512mb mem, 180gb over 2 HD’s and a 128mb Gf4… topping 300 fps in Quake 3 @ 1024x768 and I sit at my com_maxfps of 125/120 in ET @ 1280x1024. Now, i’ve always used a different config for ripping demos being 800x600 or 640x480 with everything up to the fullest… again, hitting maxfps etc… so, what would someone reconmend I use as my cl_avidemo fps value? I used 15! (On a P2 400, 64mb Gf2 upstairs) for some Q3F small flicks and frags, is 35ish suitable tops (Highest ammount a human eye can see or smt innit?) taking my setttings and values into consideration? Also, i’ve always used Adobe Premier and never bothered with special effects etc in vids, only recently started to mess about with After Effects etc for the editing… is there any other programs easier to use tho than these? VirtualDub I understand is sf.net, never tried it tho heard good reports… is there anything else? Interested in just the most top of the range software with the easiest import/export, edit, cut, sound etc features… has Sony got software out?
And a bit off topic question here too but… Can get hold of a Sharp £389 Digital Video Camera for £50. Now, I would really like to get this onto my PC so I can edit etc obv, but theres no USB/Firewire connection… just a video and sound out. Whats the chances of a lead or 2 one from Video Out to Video In on my Gf4 and one from Sound Out to Sound In on my Soundcard? Is there software (apparently this ‘Sony’ software is top of the range for this stuff, cant find anything on it tho) freely availible or to purchase that can rip this off when connected? Would it maybe work with TV In instead and use a PCTV prog as usual? Suggestions appreciated…
I’ll answer a bit. I think what most people record at is 30fps, but if you want it to look that lil bit smoother i would bump up to 40fps. As for the rest of your movie questions… i suggest posting on the Shaolin Productions forums and get some advice there. They’re top notch movie makers (they did 4K Revolutions) and should be able to provide all the movie making help you need.
Maybe I’m playing a different game than you trickjumpers, but I know for a fact that most are not possible with an “out of the box” ET installation, because I’ve done a clean install, started a local server, and tried many of them for several hours at a time, on several occasions, and studied the movies closely. Can’t be done (and please, don’t give me the “skill” line, I can press keys and buttons as well as the next guy). If a distance simply cannot be crossed by jumping, jump-crouching, strafe-jumping, whatever you wanna try, then it can’t be crossed - not without some kind of tweaked configs. Whether server or clientside, I dunno, but there’s a whole lotta tweakin’ goin’ on…
DUH. I think it’s cute that you see some kind of scandal/personal revelation here… why don’t you read up on how player physics are calculated between the client/server and then make another uninformed post?

If it wasn’t for the horrendous bitrate it would need I would even go to 50 FPS, but I think 25 FPS is a good compromise. Several Shaolin movies (including 4K) uses 25 FPS and so does most of the best looking movies out there. I only found one good movie (The Pink Menace) in my collection that uses 30 FPS.
When it comes to what the human eye can perceive this is a must read.

Read it many times before. And?
These guys are claiming this stuff was done on bone stock clients and servers. I, with all due respect, ain’t buyin’ it. That’s all I’m saying. No scandal, no revelation here. No need for you to get all hysterical about it…

UNOWNABLE, Q3 frag movie was done at 40fps and I can defo see a difference. It looks alot smoother, and the quality’s that good… it’s sometimes like watching a demo. Guess it’s just personal preference. I prefer to render at 30fps, but each to thier own.
Bludd: Could you do those jumps with your normal config? I’d be happy to give you a shot of my gfx config and see if you can do them. I know when i did my RTCW jumps they were all done on my clans server with TWL/CAL restrictions. The only thing i can see that would help with jumps is capped fps.
Yes, as I said I wouldn’t mind doing my movies at 50 FPS, but that would translate into almost 1MB/s with the same image quality as in the 4K movie.
If file size wasn’t an issue I would use 1280*1024 @ 100 FPS and non-destructive compression… :eek3:
Thank’s for the link, I’m standing in line to download it. :drink:
But see, I’m not ignorant (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=ignorant). As I’ve said, I’ve closely studied the movies, tested the jumps for many hours over many occasions, read many documents such as the one you posted, and my player simply does not travel at the velocity or distance as that shown in those movies (on a barebones, default install). I can do a lot of them when I tweak some things, however.

Then you need more practise
All you need to tweak is com_maxfps.
Bludd you seem to be making a very quick habit of making posts that indicate you are not very well informed. As for the jumps in the video, they can be done (although the only exception I think is 1 on Caen which I think was done on an earlier version of the map). I know they can be done because either I’ve done them or players I regularly play with have done them. There are minor client-side tweaks you can do to help make the jumps easier but they are by no means cheating (meaning: they are allowed in clan matches). Mainly the pmove_fixed and com_maxfps settings are the only settings you should even need to mess with. Outside of that, learn how to strafe jump and bunny hop because if you knew how, a lot of these jumps would seem very easy.

There we go, so we agree then! Isn’t it great when we all get along?

You seem to be under the impression that strafe-jumping and bunnyhopping are some sort of incredibly complex talents that take years to master, yet I can assure you that I am quite competant at these “skills”, and all others involving keys and buttons.
