Tips and other useful info

(D.ark Matter) #1

I thought we could start a thread on some useful info you’ve picked up in ET that most people might not know yet. If you know any please list them here.

-1- Not too many people know you can cancel an enemy airstrike. All you have to do is go prone on it. You should get off the canister as soon as you hear the airplane overhead because a single explosion will happen at the canister. If done right you won’t take any damage, and will have stoped the enemy airstrike.

-2- Mortars work wonders on the Battery map. Having someone launch shells onto the Axis ledge until Allied forces gain the spawn point is a huge help.

-3- Engineers shouldn’t waste their Energy planting dynamite at structures that a COps can blow up with a satchel charge. Only if it’s very important.

-4- Don’t file complaints as a COps against people using explosive weapons. Most of the time they lead instead of aiming directly at you, so they don’t see the do not shoot sign. Also it’s a bad idea to File as a COps in general if you are wearing an Enemy disguise.

-5- Don’t plant landmines in stupid places. Think where your teamates are going to be moving, and if the flag will be in a hard to see spot.

-6- Sometimes a lvl 3 medic will kill you and then bring you back to health when you are really low. This is because he will bring you back with FULL health and this ends up being faster and saves the medics energy.

Yeah I know they were pretty stupid and comon knowledge, but some newbies scanning the forums might find this stuff useful.

COps Section

I mainly play COps, and I thought I’d share my experience with you guys.

[Weapons]
Sten - I always choose this gun as my starting weapon. When everyone has 0 or low light weapon experience still this gun is very useful. Unfortuantely later on this gun becomes obsolete unless you are doing mainly med-long range shooting. This is because XP in light weapons and COps does not help this weapon at all about. The most you will really get is a faster reload speed.

FG42 - I have seen some COps use this as a starting weapon to great success, but I feel the sten is a better starting choice. Once you reach level 3 Light Weapons however this gun becomes the better choice. It can stand up to Thompson and MP40’s much better at this point. Also when you gain lvl 3 COps it has less recoil while zoomed.

Sniper Rifles - Some people choose COps just to snipe. I would recommend waiting until lvl 3 COps before using this though. Once you reach lvl 3 the recoil is cut in half. The only time I use it before then is to take out an MG/Sniper/Mortar etc.

So add on some stuff that you think people might find useful.

i need time to gather my thoughts… i coudl go on forever :o

As covert ops I would highly recommend always using the Sten if you are not planning on sniping.

If you are disguised you can use it to kill enemies and as long as you aren’t in ANY enemies field of view you will retain your disguise. I don’t think you can do this with any other covert ops weapons. All it takes is a few shots to the head and I find it a lot more effective than the pistol.

Some of my own:

Covert Ops:

On Depot map Covert ops first priority should be to throw smoke over the bridge parts so as to give engineers cover. I’d say covert ops don’t use smoke nearly enough on all the maps. Couple of good uses:

1 - covering a damaged tank/vehicle while engineers fix it
2 - when attackers are pinned down at choke points a canister or two of smoke can be the deciding factor for breaking through.

In fact I reckon cov ops aren’t yet used to their full effect by many people. In the bank map Allies often get pinned down outside the bank, throwing wave after wave of good soldiers hopelessly in to the fray. A cov ops in disguise can fairly effectively sneak in to bank and take out any defenders, or sneak up to the mg42 gun emplacement and take out any axis manning it. I suspect as people get used to the classes this will become more common.

Field Ops:

Field ops posses a useful skill that is to give out ammo - SO FREAKIN WELL DO IT ALREADY!!!

Medics:

See above replacing ammo with medic packs. Actually I’d say medics are better at dishing out packs than field ops generally.

Soldiers:

A flame thrower can be a good way to break through a choke point - yeah yeah, sounds obvious but how often you see people use it? Often you find the enemy has a good number of players all milling around the other side of the choke point, so one sweep of your flames can take out an entire enemy force in the area. Unfortunatly this kind of relies on your team mates deciding not to coincide their usual suicidal run with your burst of flames.

For newbies:
Read the documentation
Watch your fire
Don’t file complaints or complain about teamkills unless you were intentionally killed

Those 3 will get you a long way, but also:

If you have no idea how the map is laid out or what the objectives are, try going medic and follow groups of other players around handing out healthpacks. You’ll be useful and you’ll get to see the map.

The small flags on the ground are mines, stay clear of them.

Blue or Red smoke means an airstrike is imminent at that position, run away! Grey smoke on the other hand is simply for cover.

Covert Ops on your team can steal enemy uniforms, when they do they will look exactly like an enemy, but when you move your crosshair over them you will see a big red circle indicating that they are a teammate. Again, watch your fire! Take an extra moment to identify your target before firing.

Be patient, polite, and considerate. Nearly every server will have someone who’s happy to explain things to you if you ask as long as the question is a valid one (ie one that hasn’t been covered over and over in the documentation). Ask, and they will help you.

You will kill teammates, when you do, apologize.

You will be killed by teammates, when you are, cool off and resume playing. Don’t file complaints or get too upset, accidents happen.

Have fun!
There are some great people playing the game and if you stick with it and learn you will have a whole lot of fun. On the other hand there are also morons who will annoy you to death, ignore them and focus on your own game. Most of us like seing newbies and go that extra mile to help you along, but you also have to try to learn on your own. That means learning the gameplay aswell as the culture and etiquette that comes with the game.

Engineers:

  • Building stuff takes your energy bar, and when you run out of energy, it goes really slowly. So two enigneers can construct/repair MUCH faster than one. If the construction point is under fire, it may be better to fall back and let your bar recharge for a while.

  • Think about the order of objectives, and how long they take to build. You might be better off building the bridge than repairing the tank that’s waiting there. Once the tank has reached it’s final destination, only repair it if the mounted gun is being useful to your team. There is not much point repairing the truck on goldrush until you have the gold.

Covops:

  • You can spot landmines. If your team is repeatedly dying on enemy mines, you should be spotting.

Yes, on the CvOps mine detection!

If the enemy seems wise to CvOps, hang back and spot mines, don’t worry, an enemy will be along shortly and you can take his uni and go in, if you so desire.

Medics:

  • If you are going to TK/revive, DO NOT shoot the patient in the helmet. They will lose their 20 hp protection from the first headshot. If their helmet has already been knocked off, feel free to shoot them in the noggin.

([=O=]SMYLER) #9

reyalP, now you know me and you will understand that I can’t help but bring this up.

Please god stop talking about shooting people in the “helmet” and in the same sentence make references to “headshots” and oh my good god, “If their helmet has already been knocked off, feel free to shoot them in the noggin”.

My legs are crossed in mental pain. And no that doesn’t mean my brains are in my pants.

A tip for everyone:
Feel free to shoot smyler in either head at any time If the message is in red, you have won a special prize. You can find it by poking around in his corpse with your knife.

while on the topic of complaints… can anyone refresh my memory by posting the command to remove the file complaint message?

(BlackDeath) #13

To everyone who is “learning” how to play this game…

1.) Make sure to drop grenades on anybody who is moving when they are laying on the ground, its the ONLY way to gain big XP.

2.) If someone is manning the cool mg-42 that you’ve been dying to try out, give em a good poke in the back a few times with your knife, they’ll understand its your turn.

3.) Remember, if your a medic, and you see someone witha RED ICON above their head, STAY AWAY!! They are very dangerous and will explode when you come near them, killing you!

4.) Right when you spawn, if your a field ops, hit “B” to look through your binoculars. Point the binoculars on your feet, and hit “Fire” A big cloud of smoke will appear, this is good, anyone who steps where the big red cloud is will gain free XP!!!

5.) If you move your crosshair over someone, and your crosshair turns into a big red circle, FIRE AWAY!! This is an enemy who has the “Objective”, and you must kill him!!

6.) No matter what people say, ET is NOT a Team Game. It is a Deathmatch, in which the highest fragger wins. People have a choice of two skins, the Allies, and the Axis. They are only skins, and make no difference in the game.

7.) Right when you spawn after the “Warm-up round”, make sure to fire your panzerfaust after everyone’s BLUE ICON above their head dissapears. If you do it right after, you gain MEGA XP!!!

8.) Make sure to hit F1 when any message flashes on your screen, you get xtra XP!

9.) If someone has XP over 500, they are DEFINATELY cheaters, call a vote to kick them, and give a reason… “I saw him using an aimbot” is a good one, or “He is intentionally TKing, he’s done it 10 times.” is also a good reason!

Black_Death’s helpful hints to those beginners just starting their long and enjoyable career in FPS gaming

Thanks man.

Veritas :

“while on the topic of complaints… can anyone refresh my memory by posting the command to remove the file complaint message?”

You don’t wanna do that man as there are some fuckers out there that run about having a TK fest at the expense of an enjoyable game and no matter how many times you call a vote he won’t get kicked. You keep calling the vote telling people why he should be kicked, half of the fuckers don’t have a single word of english in their heads and vote to kick you for being an annoying twat who keeps calling votes, instantly kicked. Let him TK you a few times complaining against him every time and let him boot himself.

Anyone who has the complaints option removed is a hippy and shouldn’t be fighting and will call their children Tree, Sky and Babbling Brook.

(frito) #17

On allies playing fuel dump. Do not just wait outside the axis base, go inside.

([=O=]SMYLER) #18

Frito you’re mental it’s full of nazis with guns.

(BlackDeath) #19

No, no, no, you’ve got it all wrong…Pft, n00bs…

What you gotta do is stay in the tunnels, and STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THE BASE!! You begin to lose xp if you go into there, only dumb n00bs go in.

If you really want, if the Bridge was destroyed after the tank crossed the bridge, rebuild it. IT REALLY helps your team members out!!

(I’ve actually seen people do that, even backtrack to the Road MG on Fuel Dump just to get that xtra 3 xp, jeez, cheap bastards  )

([=O=]SMYLER) #20

It’s also fuckin’ mental to go anywhere were there are gun toting nazis.
