The whole deal with Nexon.

(Protekt1) #41

^my nexon launcher isn’t using much if any CPU while idle… and less ram than steam.

I haven’t had any issues with the launcher except for when I couldn’t set my name immediately but that was fixed pretty fast.

Nexon isn’t my favorite company but gotta give them a real chance. Even the launcher is a beta product still… supports two games afaik. It is also 10x better than other f2p launch client’s I’ve used from other publishers… like perfect world entertainment.

(Glottis-3D) #42

This is exactly what we were saying about ddestiny 2 monthes ago.
Sad.

But this doesn’t change the fact Nexon Launcher is still much better than EA’s Origin

(rapid_shot) #44

I’m a web developer and I have to back Nexon on this one. It was stated before that SD has years and years of improving the forums under their belt. It looks like SD has many custom plugins / changes that they’ve used to improve your experience here. Nexon hasn’t had the “privilege” to have you guys to give that feedback for years yet. To expect instant changes on their forums is irrational; It’s not as simple as copy paste. You might be able to make a great working forum in a short amount of time, but it’s those custom plugins / changes that take a lot of time and expertise (html, css, php, sql, javascript / jquery, etc.). And on top of that you have to make your own plugin work inside of code you had no hand in building.

Now if the look of the forums is the main problem, it wouldn’t take very long to just create a new stylesheet. But if they’re working on the issues and feedback you guys provided, putting out a new stylesheet would be like decorating a cake while it’s still in the oven.

they couldve had a look at warchest forums before and fix some stuff before giving it free for the majority.
and nexon is a gaming company they should be able to setup a proper forum without beeing forced by the users.
also sd shouldve made a quality check over there and see that this forum is awefull

That’s not SD’s job to do a quality check of another company’s forum system (correct me if I’m wrong). Why do you think they keep directing us to Nexon to give feedback? They can suggest things, but their job is to build Extraction. How was Nexon supposed to know before any Alpha members even went there, the level of discontent they would have over “It’s not as easy to do things!”. It’s our job to give feedback in a clear, well thought out, and non-pretentious manner (or at least it should be). It’s their job to manage their priorities as they see fit to get the overall game ready for more beta players. As far as I’m concerned, their forums work as they need to. They provide a place for us to give feedback and for them to communicate with the players. Are there things I would change that would make the forums better, of course. But you can probably understand why this might not be their top priority; at least I hope so.

(AsKo_) #47

well imo it is their job to check sth like this before they coorporate with another company.
but also the other way around. nexon shoudve read through the alpha forums and see how good feedback works.
the point im trying to explain is that nexons task is to collect feedback and organize everything around the game so forums is one of the biggest if not the biggest part of all this and all they could setup is a forum every random clan would instantly delete.
and for me their forums are not even near good working, it logs me out everytime i close the page, i get random errors and mysterious post switches, we had to unleash a ****storm to get a working edit function (this is ridiculous), i somehow cant see the positive in this.
i am a total sd fan and like the way they work but im afraid that their good reputation might suffer from stuff like this.

one step forward two steps backwards

(rapid_shot) #48

All inconveniences, but the core function of providing a place to give feedback is in place and should not be given priority. In your car, are you going to pay for your transmission to get fixed or your AC/Heat? Not a perfect example obviously but the logic is the same. SD’s decision to team up with Nexon, good or bad, has already happened and we need to move past it and help them get better. They’re offering a place for us to tell them what we want in the game / launcher / forum / etc. Complaining and getting your panties in a wad over mere inconveniences isn’t going to help anything. You say “Well they should have done this or that beforehand…”, maybe, I really don’t know. But they either didn’t or haven’t gotten around to it yet. It’s been very clear since day 1 that their forums need work. Give it some time, be patient and deal with it for awhile. Maybe in a couple months and nothing has changed you can bring it up again, but panties + wad = annoying for everyone.

all I see

im so unmotivated :\ I’ve bought COD:Ghosts.
I’ll visit in future to check if there is any progress [I really really really like this game, hope it wont turn into “liked”]

Just going to lift the lid on some things that have happened in the last 24 hours or so…

I decided to make a draft game, as we did in the Alpha. I sent an email to the address provided. To my suprise I received a fairly fast reply. Not only have they agreed to give me access to one of the private servers for the whole weekend they decided to give me the admin password. This is leaps forward from what they originally offered. I take my hat off to them for this.

Further more, they gave me a very nice excel style email with all the admin commands I will need, what they do and how they affect the game.

Very happy about the changes I have seen since their first post. My hat is already off, but I would remove another one if I have a second one on.

(AsKo_) #51

you got a point there and i’ll try to be more positive about this issue, but you have to understand its really frustrating as all my fears about nexon came true so far but i’m sure this is only temporary and they will step up soon.
still i think all this couldve been avoided with very little effort before the forum switch just by getting some inspiration here.
anyways not gonna argue about this anymore and we’ll see what time will bring

I would agree with you except for the fact that Nexon has been around for awhile. They’ve had forums for awhile, and vBulletin isn’t exactly new. You could probably hire some pre-teen on craigslist that could have done a far superior job than what we’re working with over there. I’m not saying that to be mean or hurtful. I’m being 100% honest.

(ailmanki) #57

Lol, that is a general problem today. Today you can find a kid who can do a better job then a company charging a million or two for the same. On the other hand, you get no guarantee, no extended support and some other caveats.

(Nail) #58

here we’re used to driving Bentleys, there we’re handed Reliant Robins, is disheartening, and I know it’s mostly cosmetic, but it’s a let down for a lot of us

(rapid_shot) #59

I had a lot to say but then realized that you had a point as far as “They’ve had forums for awhile”. That said, it still might take time to customize the page. You can see how the Combat Arms forum is styled so you can assume that sooner or later they will add some sort of different style to the Extraction forum as well. As far as the SEO nightmare of “%2Fsearch.php%3Fsearch_type%3D1%26” in the URL, the designer nightmare of a 900+px header, and the annoyance of the every 30min login, maybe these complaints hold ground. But I still feel like the level of discontent thrown at Nexon as a whole for a few inconveniences in their forums is irrational and I just wanted to say something.

And the day I meet a pre-teen that knows HTML5/XHTML, CSS/CSS3, JavaScript/jQuery, OOP PHP4/5, SQL/MySQL and the best practices for each will be the day I’m out of a job. More accurately, the day I’m unable to find a job. Or maybe this is why it’s been so hard to find a job… uh oh…

(fubar) #60

I don’t know about you, but as freelance it’s getting tougher and tougher out there. Estonians, Russians and Turks literally ruined independent contracts for… everyone. Cheap ass 15 year old drunk bastards that’ll work on a 3-4 month project on a salary that’s similar to my hourly rate. And they’re good, most of them anyway.
