The Truth about Cheating in ET

(Kendle) #121

I think it’s more a case of I’ve never been affected. I’ve been owned, badly, many times, and I’ve spectated players quite often that I was suspicious of, but never seen anything untoward. If there have been cheaters on servers I’ve played on they’ve probably been such crap all-round players anyway that they haven’t caused me any concern or any reason to suspect them.

There’s only been one busted cheater I know of in the community I participate in. There have been several in RTCW recently in Europe, and there’s the Silo case in the US, but only one in the UK, and that was on a public server and caught by vigilant admins.

But as it happens I don’t pub very much any more. I play ET clanned and CS:S on pubs, mostly.

But as I’ve said many times, the question isn’t ARE there cheats, the question is HOW MANY. I maintain NOT A LOT, although of course there are some, and they were on the increase until Bani’s last IAC release. I’d still like to know if the hack POINT3RX is refering to was caught on a ETPro server running the 3rd October IAC release, or earlier. If earlier I ain’t the least bit worried about it.

I do the same as M8DNephelim. Ever since I started playing games online (QW anyone?) I enjoy helping the community, keeping in touch with players and making friends, playing in leagues etc… the usuall basically. I also tend to attempt to go one better and help out offereing services to say sweRTCW when I was posting news and translating posts for em, doing Q3/Q3F adminning at Barrysworld/Wireplay… Ill say no more on this.

Its up to Evenbalance to do nothing tbfh. They started off offereing there service, Anti Cheat software, for free. No one asked them to do this afaik? Fair enough now theyve got contracted in etc from outside groups but there still only there to write the software to pickup cheats and not personally go out and detect/find them themselves. If there software goes outdated and needs an update im sure they start work as soon as they can on it. If this is not efficient enough then I purely couldnt see why if it wasnt a good job there doing then why would they still be going on at it and wanted by companies to go on doing it?

Maybe tough words but I’m so sick and tired of skilled programmers putting their energy in the wrong stuff and of people cheating! - This alone is enough to see how stupid you are and how much you are severly lacking common sense. If your that sick and tired why not take up learning to code and use all your free time trying to sort this… ah wait, this is Evenbalance started doing and its not good enough… ah well, lets all jump on the never ending circle of repetitiveness…

maybe i’ll get to serve you a piping hot dish of AK47 sometime  i’m pretty lethal in CS:S  (altho the lack of VAC has made me put it down untill after HL2 SP - i figure by then they’ll have enough rest to implement “VAC-2”, as-it-were). have u encountered any lame speedhackers yet? pretty sucky, and getting more common last time i played.

oh BTW, there’s a couple characters you should add to your name which will crash the scrubby leaches playing illegally cracked copies whenever you die. PM me for more info  gotta support valve or they will take another 6 years for their next game…

(ouroboro) #124

i agree, i’d be way more impressed if some genius could actually stop cheaters once and for all than i am when they slap together some stupid aimbot after reading a half dozen opengl tutorials.

that reminds me of a program called DemoBuster that a small group made for the SoF2 MP demo, which has a surprisingly vibrant little community still, kinda like the RTCW demo community. this program attempted to keep the demo cheat free, and for a while most servers were requiring it, and it seemed to be working quite well. dunno what ever became of that project but it really impressed me that A) someone cared enough to do it, and B) that they were relatively successfull.

(pgh) #125

I didnt really want that to sound a bit personal or bad just kinda saying, the guy cant really express an opinion with that if its something he a/ Clearly hasnt read up on the subject matter, b/ Obviously has no idea of the time and knowledge it takes… I for one know how it feels cos in my day I did the same thing with websites and such and after an hour reading up on the subject im still here 4 years later…

Damn you… although I bet you’ve never downloaded anything you shouldnt have…

(mouse) #126

It has been 3 weeks since I have forwarded it to the people of Evenbalance and it’s still not detected. Now tell me how many wars have you played the past 3 weeks?

Hmm how many wars … A lot I guess -> http://www.kdesign-online.nl/dhbclan/vwar/war.php

I have seen suspicious behaviour in 1 of those wars, but hey, that was d.Intact under another name \o/ Sorry dude but you are looking at the wrong players, if 0,05% of the public players would use that cheat then I think 1% of them would use that in a war. It is too damn obvious. But that wasnt why I brought this up. I do appreciate that you take the time to reseatch cheats and report them, I just dont like the way you are telling the community how they look like  I mean, whats next, a download link?

(ouroboro) #127

although I bet you’ve never downloaded anything you shouldnt have

not games

this is my hobby and i’m happy to support the people who develop products i enjoy. normally if i don’t rush out to buy the latest title, i’ll wait for the demo and see if i like it.

the great thing about games is that they are utterly useless if you don’t pay for them, since you need a unique key to play online - except in the case of this cracked CS:S copy, which is pretty sickening, actually. i mean cmon, do you really think it’s cute that these losers are downloading a copy of a highly anticipated and very well made (although admittedly still buggy) game that allows them to generate random steam_id’s and play on any server as if they paid for it like i did?

not as long as any exploits exist that i can use to punish them  i quite often empty 75% of european servers, with only the paid owners remaining. seems germans in particular are incredibly ungratefull, thieving bastards.

i’m frankly unmoved that the game costs too many rubles or deutsch marks for the slimy little pirates to afford. i’m hardly rich, yet i scraped together the $60 for HL2 Silver via Steam - and i do mean scraped.

it’s a moot argument though because valve is surely busting ass to stop this bullshit. they’ve invested far too much time and money in this new flagship title to see it raped like this.

The cracked patch is already out

(ouroboro) #129

The cracked patch is already out

but not all the thieves have upgraded. and why did you wink after saying that? i don’t know about the rest of you, but i view software thieves in the same light as cheaters. there’s nothing cute about it. would you steal the CD from the store? there’s no difference if you download it without paying.

i’m guessing SD would agree with me, BTW

(Fusen) #130

ahh thats a shame as I’m not at all against downloading movies, songs and I do on a regular basis, but there comes a point where games that you play all the time should deffinatly be bought e.g. all the GTA games for ps2 would never think of downloading them as they are just too good cs:s another example…

(M8DNephelim) #131

affirmative fusen! a good game is worth having your own box and CD key to! :drink:

(Depth_Charge) #132

Well i would never think of playing cs more than once a month and i have bougth plenty of games

Plus I hate Valve :stuck_out_tongue:

(pgh) #133

Yes lol? Welcome to this century man  We have the RIAA sueing 6yr old girls ffs

As for the cracks etc, again, yes? Its been going on ever since the days of Quake etc and even before then. My first wouldve been using a dual tape deck to ‘backup’ my C64 games… :stuck_out_tongue:

(ouroboro) #134

you’re a couple of f*cking scumbag thieves. i’d keep those attitudes to yourself, especially on a game developers forum. if i ever see either you in a game i’ll /disconnect, because anyone who thinks stealing games and using cracks to bypass making a purchase is of precisely the same mindset as a hacker/cheater/wanker.

in short, i hereby label you both cheaters and your clans (if any) to be populated purely with disgusting, cheating slimeballs

PS, identity theft is also a staple of this century - that doesn’t make it right. as for the little girls - i’d sue your grandma if she stole from me :bash:

ignorance is no excuse under the law in any modern society.

if you choose computers as your pastime but are not even willing to purchase the products you use to engage in that pastime, you’re by definition a leach. get out of my community, and don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, you filthy thieving bastards :bump:

(Nail) #135

WOW, the only person in the universe that has never downloaded anything on the internet, I commend you my man, that must be so wonderful way up there in the clouds of perfection

and, btw, it ain’t your community, communities by definition are many people

(ouroboro) #136

it’s mine as well as my fellow law abiding citizens, the same as any other community. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=outlaw

an outlaw (utelager) is someone who is shunned and banished from the community by the honest members of that society. i don’t give a wet fart if the entire world is running a rack of warez dump servers continuously pumping out petabytes of illicit software - it’s still wrong. there are tens of thousands of cheaters in gaming. does that mean you won’t mind if i rage your face with an aimbot, or plant a nade lovingly on your ignorant dome using a “leet” wallhack?

i didn’t think so.

oh and you can take a walk along with anyone else who essentially brags about stealing from kickass companies like Id and Splash Damage. yeh, if you stole Doom 3, you essentially told SD to suck a c*ck - it matters not that you can’t play their portion of the game (MP maps) without a key. they were involved in the enterprise, therefore stealing it is slapping them in the face.

gg

you join a community and profess to love it and want to make it a better place and be an active contributing member of it, yet you blatantly rob the creators of that community blind. remind me to start locking my doors if you move into my neighborhood. i suppose you also steal your cable TV and drive away from the gas pump without paying? same thing buddy - stealing services from the community.

gtfo

(Sauron|EFG) #137

It won’t be anyone left except him after his “pure” rules have been enforced on a wold wide scale.

(ouroboro) #138

that comment has nothing to do with software piracy and the indisputable fact that it defines the practitioner as a foul, vile, disgusting slimebag who should be dragged into the street and beaten, but mine have nothing to do with the intent of this thread, so i digress.

(Nail) #139

bah, get off your high horse, not everyone who downloads a mp3 is a threat to humanity, get another soapbox, you’re wearing thin with that holier than thou attitude

(ouroboro) #140

who said anything about “a mp3”? i’m gonna go way out on a limb and suggest that you have more than one, in fact several hundred dollars worth most likely, but again i ask: who’s talking about mp3’s? i’m talking about stealing a $50 game that took sometimes years to create by a dedicated, devoted team of game lovers just like you and me, then is sold to people like us who love this hobby (which is proved by the fact that you are here on this forum - otherwise there’s would be no reason to create an account here - even coming here to post once about a problem shows an interest in having an enjoyable gaming experience), which you then steal as if it didn’t matter because it’s on the internet instead of at a store on a CD…

i suggest that if you take theft, especially from people as cool as game developers, so flippantly, that you might want to try the same tact at a department store. when you are being cuffed and calling your parents all teary-eyed to be bailed out of jail, you can just tell the police officer to get off their high horse, it was only a game/music CD. why should you have to pay for it, everybody else steals? i’m sure the nice officer will agree with you…

DON’T STEAL. pony up the dough or go without. that’s the reason people strive to aquire money - so they can get cool stuff. if you’re getting it for free, you’re partaking of things you havn’t earned. this is the oldest premise of humanity, i’m sure you don’t need a lesson in the monetary system. goods and services require funds. i don’t care how many of your smart-assed, slacker-lifestyle, saggy-pants-wearing, hairstyle-that-cost-50-dollars-to-make-you-look-like-you-just-rolled-out-of-bed, gen-X friends are doing it - it’s still wrong.

absorb that truism, it will serve you well in life, kiddo
