The Truth about Cheating in ET

(Sven) #101

How about the setcs command available in etpro? I was able to remove some players from the score board, switch skins(axis to allied/etc) and occasionaly remove dynamite from objectives, by changing the corresponding values of the config strings and explointing the random glitches that occure when changing them in-game. This is a very powerfull tool for admins that want to abuse it.

(bani) #102

kind of silly to complain about “admin abuse” – it’s their server. they can do anything they like including making their team’s respawn time 1 second while making yours 3 hours, giving their team infinite lives and your team only 1, etc. etc.

easiest way to deal with it is to /disconnect and find another server.

(P01NT3RX) #103

DELETED:After several discussions I’ve deleted all my posts about current hax & bots

People here think that ET players are naive and don’t know that hax exists. They think that it’s wrong to post what the hell is going wrong in the ET scene.

(mouse) #104

Can you please explain WHY you post stuff like this? To show how powerfull a wallhack with skins is? Sorry but I cant understand the purpose of this post, it will NOT help to decrease cheating, only to let some noobs think, “oh, maybe now I can pwn others” …

(M8DNephelim) #105

point said mouse. agree totally. the community should stop posting shit like this for noobs to find out and get interested in how to cheat their way on the servers.
what the community instead should do is email links and stuff to the right people instead posting about it in public.

lame cheaters get me upset…

(P01NT3RX) #106

That’s just plain B.S. Everybody should now about this hax and if I say everybody I really mean the entire ET community!! Only this way can the community REACT against the hax and put Evenbalance under pressure. Sure the “l33t” players will now be angry cuz I go public with their hax. Every hack that I receive by mail or find through leechers or by I find on the net will immediatly be forward to research@evenbalance.com

(mouse) #107

You are definetly taking the wrong aproach then imo. Posting this on community sites will not scare cheaters, and will only increase the number of people who will go searching for “ET+Aimbot” on google.

imho offcourse.

(Kendle) #108

Sorry, but I have to agree with Mouse etc. Why should anyone except Evenbalance / Bani know about any hax? What advantage is there in the “community” knowing about it? Other than to encourage people to go find it themselves or become paranoid that anyone better than them is using it? That’s the only reaction I can see the “community” having, they certainly aren’t going to put Evenbalance “under pressure”. Since Evenbalance can only be contacted by email I doubt they’re put under much “pressure” by anyone.

(pgh) #109

Sure P01NT3RX… theres a site dump that hosts over 300mb of archived bots and hacks of which a good number of them appear to be updated weekly, if not daily. As far as im aware this is only 1 of very many such dumps.

(Sauron|EFG) #110

Then isn’t telling people how easy it is to find a cheat also a bad idea?

(my highligting  )

Couldn’t the same be said about all the other demos/screenshots in this thread?

The AVI doesn’t add any valuable information to this thread*, but I don’t see that posting it here makes a difference. Posting it on a lot of forums without any form of context would make it sound like it’s something a lot of people are using, which is really bad though.

(* He did however post another AVI on the ETPro forum that showed a PBSS hack that I’ve never heard of before. Maybe something for this thread if you still update it Kendle.)

(mouse) #111

He is ranting on multiple community sites about his discoverd hax, and that everyone has to see this in order to prevent further spread (or something) and to try to wake up Evenbalance or Bani. Like I said, this is imho not the way to do that.

(Sauron|EFG) #112

Then we agree.

(Kendle) #113

Spoof, you’re right of course with the highlighted snippets, but the idea of this thread was to show what can (and even more importantly) what can’t be done as regards cheating. So I guess I can’t take issue with him posting it in this thread. I just take issue with people, in general, posting all over the place saying “heh, I found this hack”. That’s counter-productive IMO. We know these hacks exist, there’s a screenie of this sort of hack in the opening post of this thread.

Having said that I guess I should qualify the position slightly.

This is a ballhack / skin, for which I have a screenie but no demo, so strictly speaking I should post this. However, I did state the “evidence” should be by way of a demo, not AVI or other “media” file (which of course can be “manipulated”). I guess that stipulation seems inappropriate in this case, how could you capture a skin hack in a demo? I should also state the server the hack is caught on should be running the latest version of anti-cheat software. So if P01NT3RX would like to confirm this hack was recorded on a ETPro server running 3rd October IAC update, then I’ll happily post (and host) the AVI in the opening thread.

(P01NT3RX) #114

imo everybody should use them that way the game is the same for everybody! That way nobody can benefit from seeing through walls. Darn they should add it as an addon or a setting in the game.

(mouse) #115

Are you taking yourself serious btw?

(M8DNephelim) #116

lol! well as answer to PO1NT3RX threads i can answer by myself and the M8D Community of clans and players.
we have since long been dedicated in Anti-Cheat and searched for new hax, bots and stuff like that.
we have discovered new hax but NEVER have we posted this in public instead we have reported it directly to those working against cheats, s.a Evenbalance.

(P01NT3RX) #117

I’ve been detecting and searching for hax for about 4 months now. Everytime I found one that worked I have send it to research@evenbalance.com

I play about 3 to 4 hours daily ET and the hax I showed here is something that A LOT OF PLAYERS out there are using. I have never seen a hax so widely spread like this one. I have never gone publicly with the previous hax but. The only thing I wanted was to alert a big part of the ET scene cuz this hax is getting a serieus prob and Evenbalance don’t seem to bother.

If you really think that noobs are so naive that they think hax don’t exist then maybe you are being naive.

Sure why bother to detect this new hack and put I-don’t-know-how-many-hours-of-labour into it if only 0.001% of the ET players are using it. Assume 50% of the players start using this particular hack then I’am pretty sure that it will be detected by punkbuster the next day!!!

It’s up to Evenbalance to detect new hacks and bots because they have comitted themselves in doing so.

It has been 3 weeks since I have forwarded it to the people of Evenbalance and it’s still not detected. Now tell me how many wars have you played the past 3 weeks? If they don’t find a fix for this hack by the end of this month I will post a download link on several public “noob” forums. Maybe tough words but I’m so sick and tired of skilled programmers putting their energy in the wrong stuff and of people cheating! Cheaters should be banned 4 life and sued by the companies that developed the game!

(P01NT3RX) #118

Instead of visiting the site daily send the damn link to research@evenbalance.com

(Kendle) #119

Please define “A LOT OF PLAYERS”. This is something we’ve discussed many times before. I’ve played ET since day one. I play several hours a week. I’ve NEVER seen even ONE cheater, EVER, on ANY server I’ve EVER played on. Sorry for the CAPS but I hope you get the point. (and please don’t come back with the “naive” accusation. Look who started the thread and the content of the opening post).

Loads. And?

You can’t possibly be serious?

(ouroboro) #120

i was just stirring my macaroni pondering the world of ET, as i often do (;)), and came to check the boards and see this thread is revived. it got me thinking. firstly though i want to say to kendle: not to be offensive, but you really have just been incredibly lucky if you’ve never seen a cheater in ET - OR you truly are naive and just don’t know one when you come up against one, simply assuming it’s a supremely skilled player.

whatever the case, it doesn’t matter, you started this thread and for that you rock in my opinion. the fact remains however that ET ranks quite high as far as how many cheats are made for a game - i would be so bold as to say that ET is one of the only contenders for CS in that abhorrent category, reason being that there is really no penalty in ET for cheating and getting caught (nothing invested, nothing lost) - and how many and how dedicated the cheaters really are for this game is quite real.

there are entire communities of players who love to cheat as much as we hate the fact that they do it - they are every bit as populous and ardent as we are, and cannot be underestimated. they spend as much time on the trail of PB and ETPro anticheat, developing new cheats to bypass the latest detection methods, as you and i spend hunting a good honest game. now, if i can garner all that as an outsider crawling their forums and doing a bit of reading, do you not think the problem must surely be even deeper than they allow us to see on the surface? certainly these same people who create cheats for the adulation of the public are spending an equal amount of time on their own private hacks, perhaps even infiltrating the top level clans, no?

also, being as active in the community as you are i find it hard to believe you’ve never seen any of the dramas that periodically pop up in the clan community over a busted cheater. then again, perhaps you dont play on pubs (tho i know u do coz ive played with u :D), and altho its sometimes hard to remember this - clan matches are not the majority audience in the game - pubs are. i grant you that cheating is relatively rare in competition because there’s reputations at stake, but in pubs it really is quite popular, if difficult (due to the good work of PB and ETPro).

it’s sad, but that brings me to my thoughts…

there is simply no way to entirely stop cheaters in online games. and relying on software to do it is an excercise in futility, because all software can be hacked - full stop. instead, i think the best approach is to develop skills that simply can’t be replicated by a computer.

a computer will always be able to outshoot you. a computer will always have the potential to be more aware than you (do to wallhacks, etc). what a computer can never do better than the human mind, however, is think.

a perfect example is any competantly coded AI bots. almost without exception, they will kick your ass in a 1v1 face to face duel. but an equally real fact is that you can nearly always outsmart them, at any difficulty level.

ideally, we would love to play games in which superior thinking was the true test of skill. in shooters it’s important, but unfortunately one of the most vital skills is being able to kill without being killed, and sadly those very skills are absolutely ideal candidates to be relegated to a computer program - because the computer is superior to the human in that regard.

happily, however, it will always be possible to outsmart the average cheater. the very fact that they are relying on a program means they are not developing intuition of their own. there is no amount of C++ code on this planet that can outsmart me - i am utterly confident of that. outshoot me? easily. aiming comes down to pixels, and pixels are the domain of artificial “intelligence”. strategy comes down to gray matter, and last time i looked, my PC didn’t have much

i guess the moral of my rant is to never fear, coz good will always triumph over evil. or something like that…
