the iron...sigh(t)
He’s talking about from the GAME’S perspective. The view on your computer screen doesn’t recoil when firing from the hip.

Are you guys getting games and reality confused again??
I have never once played an FPS where the recoil was greater when using the ADS than hip-firing. It has nothing to do with reality, and doesn’t make sense either way.
You are correct. The entire post is just ways I think ADS and hip-fire could work on Brink.
ADS you get much higher accuracy at the expense of a lot of things when compared to hip-fire.

.
And we were disagreeing that it should work like that. The point of using ADS is to increase your accuracy and reduce your recoil at the expense of movement speed and FOV. It makes absolutely no sense that you should suffer more from recoil than hip-firing, because that’s just not how things work.

diggin my old thread up again…

just want to share some thought about the ironsight in brink.

in short, its just, or almost, like i would wanted it to be when i started this thread. as a light body guy with smg’s you usually never use the ironsight. there are very few occasions to ironsight and shoot a few bullets. you dont kill anyone with a smg at a distance. well, you may kill a bot or a very bad human player, but thats an exception.

assault rifles on the other hand require you to use the ironsight more than the smg’s. its not always necessary like in, for instance, call of duty. but you definetely should use them at higher ranges.

so, im pretty satisfied as it is right now, but theres one glitch that needs to be removed. and thats the short delay where youre unable to fire when switching from hip fire to ironsight. why is that? solve animation issues, more tactics? i think that was a bad idea. removing this gap should be priority in the next patch or hotfix.

the gameplay and movement feels very smooth overall. but this delay feels so at the wrong place. it removes the fluidity of the gameplay. thats just one thing of some design decisions i cant really understand. but that should be subject in other threads.

how are your feelings about the ironsight in brink?

(tokamak) #123

The light weapons are functioning okay, the medium weapons are decent but the heavy weapons need far more accuracy when sighted. They can spray around all you want while moving, but while set it should give you a chance to at least hit someone from afar.

(Insanity) #124

I rarely use ironsights even with assault rifles and the hits come up just fine so I find it great!

I experimented with them a bit at first but I found the marginally increased accuracy didn’t make up for the loss in FOV and mobility.

It’s rare that I read a post that I agree with completely. This is one of them

Brink has the perfect combination of firing from the hip rtcw/et stylee with the smgs and more measured ironsight aiming with the rifles. There are quite few things i’d like to see tweaked in this game, but this part is all good.

(PsYcHo) #126

I really like the iron sights. I’m mostly using them (adv. IS) and not sights like Red-dot. Its easier to aim with them for me

(jotun) #127

I hate ironsights. The whole idea reeks of console shooter.

Brink would have made me really happy if it turned out to be more like a modern Action Quake (not that I expected that in the least, just think it would have been cool).

(xdc) #128

iron sights in etqw were almost perfect, idk about brink though they seem fine actually

(Bakercompany) #129

Wow talk about thread necromancy.

I don’t ironsight with my Gotlung =)

I like Brinks mixture of okay hipfire and ADSing. I actually have little to no complaint about weapons and how they function in Brink (minus the poor lobsters redesign).

(Tandem) #130

Give us a dot for hip-fire and sights as an option.
Realism is no excuse because hip-firing is a real talent among real marksmen.

I see “trend” as the only reason it shows up now in most games.
the people who are in these positions, to make games;
I see it as their preferred style of play.

One day, someone who enjoyed the arcade style
will have the opportunity to make these calls
and release a game for the rest of us.

(Fireball) #131

Gosh, remove the ironsight for the console kiddos already and put an end to the “I had to remap my buttons” whining and the whole topic.

I’m playing on the PC and the ironsight helps a lot on medium to long range and adds immersion big time.

EDIT: I can do hip-firing without a dot in those FPS who can have the crosshairs disabled, it’s called skill.

Also, for them complaining about the FOV, you can always add the Improved Ironsight which does not decrease FOV.

it does decrease the FOV to 70

(Fireball) #133

Ah well, risking to repeat what others said: if it bothers you, don’t use it…

(legend123) #134

I dont like ironsight either.

They said that it wouldnt matter.
I read somewhere that accuracy wise ironsight > crouch > other.

Thats kind of lame. This game should have been fast paced from the start.
Ironsight slows you down (and yet the game says move around which makes sense).

Damn it. I thought this was gonna be like W:ET and it smells of CoD :frowning:

(kilL_888) #135

i dont know about the heavy weapons. i only played the fatty once against bots, never online.

but i think its ok as it is now. i think the fatty is supposed to be used in close quarters with his minigun or the big shotgun for instance. i dont see how you can ironsight a minigun either. would look weired.

and i also think its funny that even the grenade launcher has an ironsight. what about that? totally necessary… that was irony if you didnt get it.

have you even played the game? seems not, or youre doing it wrong.

(Zylw) #136

Another ironsight hater here. This was one of my main concerns before deciding to buy this game or not. Fortunately it turned out that atleast smg’s can be hip-fired perfectly. I dont really care about other weapons because light body type is only option for me.

(Boltthrower) #137

I hate iron sights with a passion. Shouldn’t playing a fps game on line be about seeing something and reacting to it? not, am I in the right aim mode for this shot did that person kill me because they where iron sighted and I did not have time to. I want to know I killed a person because I can move better then them or shoot better then them not having the right gun out at the right time sighted the right way. the only reason any one every says they want iron sights is realism which thats great if you are playing for realism I am not, or somehow it raises the skill level which simply makes no sense to me its just two forms of aiming. Will there every be a movement based shooter again like rtcw?

(legend123) #138
Sure have. 50 hrs on the PC. I definitely see the similarities with W:ET but its just a downgrade.
The moving is slow and clunky like CoD (unless you are a light body type).
The guns are all the same (for the most part… sure the Carb9 is the best choice but you get what I mean).

I am a team player (and have played competitively in other games) so its not like I just go rambo.
(unless my team on public servers is losing and doesnt have any brains to know what the objective is).

(legend123) #139

Man if there was I would actually pay the 50 or 60 bucks for it.
Now im feeling the 37 dollars wasnt worth it for Brink (in its current state)

(howie) #140

+1 for ironsight hater. They have their place, but i’d much prefer a game that was all about twitch aim.
