shooting from rest, aperture sights have a slight advantage imo
the iron...sigh(t)
I also love aperture sights. I seem to always have smaller groupings when using them.
Most guns come with iron sights. Good holo sights, reflex sights, etc are expensive, some times just as expensive as the gun or even more.
I think his question assumes you already have both at your disposal.
Just wondering how real life pros and cons of both items can be distilled into gameplay balance. I was afraid it was jut the cost (as that can’t be used in a game). Shooting from rest can be used, faster recovery while standing for IS and faster recovery for holo while moving.
when my eyes were 30 years younger, I preferred them out to 100m, these days I use a 4x past 40m

Iron Sight or Aim Down Sight use one eye open, one eye closed, red dot or holo sights use both eyes open, movement penalty should reflect that imo

I will say that they create much more strain than a magnified scope. I can imagine them becoming more uncomfortable to use as your eyes age. Like you already mentioned, I’m not sure I’d prefer them in situation where mobility and fov was more important than anything else, either.
Sure but it has to be balanced or there would be no point in taking iron sights.
Anyway, on topic, if you don’t like iron sights don’t use them. Problem solved, /thread
using crouch, iron sights are preferrable, moving, holo sights are preferrable. As they occupy the same slot, you’ll have to decide
i beg to differ sir.
hitting a faster moving target is more difficult than hitting someone who stares through an ironsight and is moving very slow.
we’re talking about shooters here, not abour rts’s. shooters are about reflexes, movement and aiming. all at the same time.
ironsights require reflexes and aiming, too. but as i mentioned earlier, they cut the movement. so, i dont get how that simplifies the gameplay.
I think Aim Down Sight (ADS) and Hip-Fire should be a part of every FPS from now on.
Some exceptions being games like Team Fortress 2, but here’s how I think it should work.
Hip-fire
Pros:
You can react more quickly since you just have to press the shoot button.
You can see everything clearly as you shoot since there aren’t any iron-sights in the way.
You maintain full movement speed.
Cons:
Something similar to Counter-Strike, if you crouch, don’t move and shoot in bursts your aim should be pretty good (not as good ADS though), and the more you move the worst it should be.
Aim Down Sight
Pros:
Higher accuracy than hip-fire (but im hoping you have to burst fire to keep the bullets on aim like they do in Bad Company 2, also some recoil would be nice)
Cons:
You need more reaction time to press the ADS button and then aim at the target.
The gun and iron sight obstructs a large portion of your view.
You move really slowly and you have to deal with more recoil.

I disagree with the fact that you need to deal with more recoil when using ADS. The gun is placed on the front of your shoulder, and that absorbs a huge amount of recoil. Firing from the hip increases your gun wobble and increases the recoil for a huge amount
He’s talking about from the GAME’S perspective. The view on your computer screen doesn’t recoil when firing from the hip.
Are you guys getting games and reality confused again??

You are correct. The entire post is just ways I think ADS and hip-fire could work on Brink.
ADS you get much higher accuracy at the expense of a lot of things when compared to hip-fire.
From the footage I seen of Brink it seems guns don’t have a lot of recoil, so I am hoping they work like in Bad Company 2 where you have to burst fire while ADS otherwise your accuracy goes down a lot.
