TF2 and L4D? Now those are some radiating examples of deep and tactical gameplay… Yeah let’s leave out those dumb, superficial ironsights in Brink as well.
the iron...sigh(t)
i don’t see what it adds to the gameplay that crouching giving the same spread doesn’t though, other than better visibility/lower sensitivity. neither of which should be useful to me unless the graphics make seeing enemy models hard. personally, i use crouch relatively often in close range fights too, changes the level the enemy needs to aim at to make headshots and you can shoot longer continuously (which is useful quite often, for example when you’ve lined up two enemies to the same line of fire).
yea, thats one of my problems with the ironsight. i mentioned a couple of times what i dont like about them.
i try to summarize again:
-i dont like pushing an extra button to “aim” correctly. i aim with my mouse.
(but as mentioned above im fine when the ironsight is more like a zoom to aim at larger distances)
-i dont like the fov and view reduction
-i dont like the movement reduction
-sometimes i dont like the ironsight graphic itself
-i dont like to use my beloved mouse2 to ironsight instead of jump. if thats the case i need to move the jump function to my spacebar, which means i need to put crouch on “c” or some other ridicioulus key.
(if the ironsight is in fact more of a zoom function i can easily put it on my mouse3)
i know, these are very personal and sometimes funny issues. but thats how it is for me.

lol, will you still hate ironsights if nothing else changed, and when you press the button, the gun moves from the side to the middle, to make it look like as if you were playing Wolf 3d, Doom, and Quake? Will you still hate it when there is a gun centered on the screen, but you still move the same speed, have the same accuracy, and same fov? That is, the Ironsight is just for show?
I guess the argument I was trying to make is that, if the game functions fine without using ironsights, why remove it? Is it some kind of pimple in the game, and thus negating people who actually like to use them, although it really does nothing but to psychologically trick them in to thinking that they do something, but they actually don’t? At least the upside to this is that, people who love to use ironsights will get shot by people who don’t, because of one less button to press.
you can turn IS off and just use croshair, what’s the problem ? People who want them for the aiming advantage will have to put up with the loss of peripheral vision and movement, and people who don’t want ironsight will headshot just like before, win/win imo
short answer: yes :infiltrator:
actually thats the case for the pistol ironsight animation. i think (always did) centered weapons look stupid. few years ago it was ok for doom and quake1. but the tech evolved and the guns moved to the right (sometimes left:wink:) side of the screen to simulate a more realistic (argh, stupid word for a game) look.
ET/ETQW and i hope, Brink have long/radiated examples of deep STRATEGICAL gameplay !!
so its not point. not cause. and not matter.
If I wanted to play a COD style game I would buy a COD game.
Don’t stuff up the chance to make something that doesn’t ape everything that’s out there at the moment Splash Damage!!
Bring back run and gun and fast paced gameplay! Make gameplay the thing that brings people constantly back to the game instead of ironsights and unlocks (which are dumb by the way).
Hey what’s this, one of my favourite threads being revived again? Let’s see, nope, nothing new.
Because that would make it pointless to include an animation and a button press that adds nothing to the gameplay.
Iron sights ultimately slows down gameplay and thats what you don’t want. Do you want to play a game that has everyone sitting back and waiting until they hit someone while staring down the sights of their gun or do you make the central tenet of the game to put yourself in harm’s way?
If one team is required to attack then they’re not going to sit back and wait anyway.
Ironsights are a clever trade-off between accuracy and movement/vision. They reward payers with the high situational awareness rather than trigger-happy twitch kids. The gameplay has far more depth this way.
I played Quake… and it was great, but i still think games are better with ironsight, that’s my opinion tho.

This is Wrong. As pointed out in the other thread, Iron Sights itself doesn’t slow down gameplay. Iron Sights + low hip accuracy + long respawn time (with no revives) + 1-2 hit kills = slows down gameplay.
Without those other things (which brink doesn’t have) iron sights is just a zoom function for hitting enemies at a distance. It makes sense that if you focus on one area to the exclusion of others you will notice movement and be able to more accurately hit it. The trade-off being that you are less aware of your immediate surroundings and thus move slower. But moving slower means you can’t dodge, and in a game with high health (takes half a clip to kill someone) dodging can be important.
So it seems to me that in Brink IS will be a real tradeoff, not “this is what you must use to shoot things,” which would slow down the gameplay.
I have heard that you can actually hit stuff without aiming down the sights at short and medium range.
Iron sights/ads and are also cool because they enhance immersion.
True, the spread a real-life assault rifle hip fire is way beyond what games suggest it is.
I personally will never assign the right mouse button for anything other than jump. I use the F key for ironsights. And about ironsights, if accuracy is somewhere where it was in Quake Wars when not using ironsights, I don’t mind if ironsights exist.
And to people who still confuse real life with a game and still need to remind us that hipfire is not accurate, in real life, when you look down the sights of whatever weapon, the view does not zoom unless you actually have a scope. And you need to get the hell out of your house more.
Crouch, prone? No! I want a tripod for my I-S moments and a complementary matchbox set.
