"The Bridge of Remagen" Beta Shots!

(Gecko) #241

Dont know if you had this information or if it will be usefull for you, but its interesting:

Located in a small German town on the Rhine river, it had operational significance during the First World War, but it was during World War II when the bridge truly became well-known.

The story of the Remagen Bridge is on one hand, the story of the fight to capture it as well as to defend or destroy it. On the other hand, the episode marks the beginning of the end of World War II in the west of the German Reich. The action at the bridge is a moving human story and a brilliant stroke of military daring.

Although the Germans intended to destroy the bridge, they were unsuccessful. Several attempts failed, thus the Americans were given a clear passage over the Rhine, altering the course of the war. Hitler laid the blame for the failure on five officers who were collectively responsible for the whole bridge complex, calling them the “traitors of Remagen.” Four were immediately executed, however one was already in American hands as a prisoner. Later, historians called these men “innocent scapegoats”.

Though the Americans held the bridgehead from early March 1945, the Germans were still not ready to give up their efforts to destroy the bridge at Remagen. On March 15, twenty-one fast bombers flew in to attack the structure, but they too were unable to destroy it. Hitler then ordered divers from the German navy to attempt underwater attacks, though they arrived too late to finish off the weakened structure.

Shortly after three o’clock on the afternoon of March 17, 1945, with a sickening roar of torn steel, the bridge at Remagen finally collapsed and fell into the Rhine. Of the 200 engineers working on it at the time, 93 were wounded and 28 killed. The destruction, ten days after it was liberated by the U.S., did not, however, alter the American advance east of the Rhine, as a pontoon bridge had already been completed.

This map looks soooooooooooooooo good… alpha 2 please!!! :notworthy:

(Wraith2k3) #244

The obejctive shold be in the other side of the bridge, one team attacks and the other deffends. Maybe a small vilage or a bunker complex

Nah, the bridge needs to be the focal point of the map. otherwise why has he spent so much time on it? might as well have made another “bunker assault” map in that case.

The bridge is cool, IMO it needs to be worked so that firefights go bothways, both teams can push each other back across the bridge, instead of just having axis sitting defending and the allies going to them.

Maybe making it dual-objective would help in this.

word @ Wraith2k3, the bridge must be the focus of the map.

Why not make an objective like “reclaim the bridge” or something… I dunno know, if it’s possible, but my idea is, to make several points on the whole bridge to reclaim and to hold them as long and as most as possible… and the side, owning the most “reclaim-points” at the end of a round will win the match.

Another idea is, to make it “capture the flag”… this objective should be easier to create but I think, it could make a lot of fun…

But at the end, Bxpress has to decide for his own, what kind of objective his map will get.

I’m looking forward to play this marvellous map asap,
'cuz this map rockz a lot :rocker:

(Loffy) #248

Wouldnt it be cool, if you could have tree trunks in the river (or some other junk)? And that stuff would also float by. Im not sure if it is possible. Perhaps a script_mover?
This would make the tree float in the river, and it would move! Making it look like a real river, with a stream.
Just an idea.
