System Specs for ETQW

(ATF Max) #1

Any news on system specs? I know my rig will run it but Im concerned about a few friends that might need to upgrade.

Thx

It has been stated repeatedly that the game uses the Doom3 engine. That means that if your system runs Doom 3 or Quake 4 well, it will probably run ETQW. The E3 system specs were high-end machines using (-edit-) a single 7800GTX – no SLI, dual core processor and lots of RAM.
More is always better. I highly doubt that the game is going to run well on older systems with obsolete graphics cards…even though they may run Wolfy perfectly well. John Carmack said something about how the D3 engine, and thus ETQW, strains video cards much more than past games did.

If your friends are expecting to run the game on a 1GHz computer with 512Mb of RAM and a Ti4200 video card, they won’t be getting very good performance on such obsolete hardware. If they have systems with modern multicore processors, plenty of RAM and newer video cards, they should be able to play just fine. Just download the Doom3 demo and see how it runs. It will give you at least some sense of how ETQW might run on your hardware.

does the processor relly need to be dual core, i have 3.2GHz intel pentium 4, 1024MB RAM some shitty, x700 graphics card that sometimes freezes.

go here:

test your rig for Doom 3

(mazdaplz) #5

i dont know man, my pc can run d3 and q4 pretty good, but when it comes to big outdoor enviroments it’s another story.
for instance there was a game released not long ago called dark messiah. it was built on an inferior engine, but still whenever i play it i get 10-12 fps…
im guessing poor design but im pretty sure quake wars will require more specs than q4

(Danyboy) #6

not really - I’ve not heard anything about ET:QW running multiple threads, but it’s always handy to have one core for the game and another for the 50 other processes Vista likes to run or 30 for XP

(mazdaplz) #7

my machine sucks, so when i play q4 i overclock my card and then go into task manager and close explorer and everything else that might be consuming stuff. then i set the priority level for q4 to realtime :D, might be dangerous tho.

(Dr_Tenma) #8

Hmm, I’m not really familiar with Dark Messiah (if it has outdoor or not). You can always push your computer to the limits with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion for sure, I still consider it my test for high end games though it came out almost exactly 1 year ago.

Largest outdoor environments that I can think of, and with the system resource hog that is HDR lighting. Before I bought my new computer, my old one ran that game like shit - I had to turn all the effects down, turn grass off (don’t laugh, those damn fields of swaying grass did take up a lot of system resources), distant objects, weather effects, etc. If you don’t own it, look for it on that site Nail posted. ET:QW might have similar requirements for massive outdoor environments.

No SLI. This is not minimum requirements, just the machine they used at E3.

Yeah you’re right, my bad. No SLI in their configuration. Its been a while and I was dredging the info up from the dusty attic called my brain.

(mazdaplz) #11

oblivion runs fine in my pc as well. i think the designers of dark messiah thought supercomputers are a household device now, it doesnt even look better than oblivion and i couldnt tell you if it has outdoors because i played the first 10 minutes of the game before i got really mad about the framerates

(BondyBoy007) #12

this is a good point as i upgraded my rig in aticipation of release in “fall 2006” and I was wondering if there had been any “bloat” in the sys specs

(ParanoiD) #13

For minimum playable Id say:

Intel P4 3GHz / AMD Athlon “K8”
1024MB of ram
GeForce 6xxx/ATI 9500/9600 or better. (Probably 6600GT or beter recommend)

so ur saying that if my pc passes the rec and min tests its good for playing ET:QW

Depending how well it is optimized, i would say QW will be a bit more demanding than Q4. Doom3 is 3 years old, and it’s not really that demanding anymore, and i find it hard to believe that QW would be about the same.

And about dual core support, i would assume that QW has it, as Q4 has it too, even tho they added it via patch after release. Dual cores are getting more and more popular, and for game this new and demanding, i can’t imagine them leaving it out. Also i just got new dual core, so i hope the game supports it :stuck_out_tongue:

(carnage) #16

don’t forget though that although doom3 is an older game the engine is older as well, doom3 engine as totally new then and as more game continue developing it its likely that there will be more optimizations to the engine so even though the game will most likely be more demanding the engine might have slightly better performance and as a result might not be mush more demanding than doom3

another thing to bear in mind is that QW is big news and there are a LOT of players waiting to get there hands on it. i doubt they would make it so demanding that they would cut out a large number of potential users and thus drastically reduce profits

(NoControl) #17

I know, that it can, and ofcourse i hope that wouldn’t be too demanding, hard to say at this point. Maybe they have been able to optimize it with MegaTextures to level where it can be played with low-end pc, but also benefits from newest hardware as well.

(M8DNanite) #18

I think you should select Quake 4 on that test.
And have as much memory on your PC as possible, 2GB being the roof. I think the absolute minimum is 512kb thinking of the megatexture and the added vehicles.

Quake3 had dualcore (SMP) support also but ET dont have it.
Hopefully they do it this time. Quake4 has quite simplified dualcore support but still it wouldnt hurt to import it.

“CPU Speed Minimum: 2 GHz
You Have: 3.30 GHz Performance Rated at 9.41 GHz”
Core2Duo baby 8)

(NoControl) #19

Dual core support on Q3? …You mean Q4?

It kinda depends how much you benefit using DC in Q4, i moved from one of the fastest single cores to DC Opteron, and got 50 fps boost. Some say they didn’t even see difference.

(M8DNanite) #20

Yes I ment Q3, John Carmack is kinda good programmer. He was doing multicore back then already

Google: Quake 3 SMP
It seems that it was in Q3A and stable smp support was introduced later patch and it wasnt included in RtCW and ofcource it didnt come to ET.
