strogg opressor.

(Bongoboy) #21

The Strogg Oppressor can’t hand out Ammo like the GDF Field Ops, this is true. But while the Oppressor can’t provide his teammates with Ammo, he can plant a Tactical Shield (an orange hemispherical energy field) to provide them with temporary cover, and there’s no GDF equivalent for that.

Other than that, the Oppressor’s Bombardment deployables (Rail Howitzer, Plasma Mortar, Dark Matter Cannon) do the same damage as the Field Ops’ Fire Support deployables (Artillery Gun, Rocket Artillery, Hammer Launcher). Both classes can also call in remote firepower with a chuckable item: the Field Ops calls in Airstrikes with a smoke marker grenade, the Oppressor calls in Orbital strikes with a Stroggy beacon sort of thing.

As you can imagine, the Oppressor and Field Ops play differently, but they’re both kept equally busy.

Nice

(Flesh) #23

Opressor will have a deployable shield? I guess that answers my question, thanks for the info Bongoboy. But I still hope the SD will consider updateing the “Armies” part of enemyteritory.com. Some new info would be much appreciated.

(ayatollah) #24

As I said above the enemyterritory.com website has nothing to do with SD when it comes to updating. Its down to Activision to update it.

(Flesh) #25

I understand what you meant, I just thought that admins would update the site if SD gave them some new info

Edit: typo

(ayatollah) #26

Just tell the Activision lot to check this forum out for the info! :stuck_out_tongue:

(signofzeta) #27

I guess the shield thing that was originally the technician’s is now belonging to the opressor?

(Flesh) #28

Thats prolly what happend. Makes you think what else has been changed
Now that Strogg technician doesn’t have that shield anymore I’m really curious as to how will SD balance the GDF medic against the Strogg technician since he cannot revive but only create spawn points. Of course we will have to play the game to see how that works in practice.

(Dazzamac) #29

Since when could the strogg not revive? I sincerely hope your mistaken or the strogg are fooked and I’ll be unhappy.

(Dr_Tenma) #30

As of E3 (possibly out of date build) the Strogg Technician can implant spawn hosts into dead GDF and revive fallen Strogg. There’s a high quality camera video from E3 for download somewhere on planetquake4.net that shows a Tech clearly do both of these things - I’m watching it right now and it’s at 2:48 on the video if you know which one I’m talking about.

Edit: I found it here at YouTube… if you don’t mind terrible quality and a cameraman with ADD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5QKqY2fqqs. And for the guy who asked what the Violator marker looks like, it’s at 3:15 in the video.

I could have sworn Strogg Tech’s couldn’t revive though, seems rather imbalanced that they can convert GDF bodies and resurrect Strogg ones. Then again, he has to harvest stroyent off GDF (or did this change too?!) and doesn’t get to spam health/ammo kits from a recharging power meter…

(Earlydawn) #31

I’m still heartbroken that they removed the ability of Soldiers to deploy their heavy weapons. :frowning:

(Dr_Tenma) #32

They took that out? I never really saw it as a big deal anyway… there are plenty of vehicle mounted weapons to let non-Soldiers classes rack up kills.

(Ifurita) #33

Until you get inside

(AnarchyAngel) #34

Bongboy can this sheild cover from incoming enemy air strikes and so forth? or how strong is it?

(Hakuryu) #35

I wonder what the balance is between the Technician and the Medic? One gives both health and ammo, and can turn dead enemies into a spawn spot… the other gives health only- doesn’t seem balanced and makes me think Strogg teams will be stacked with Technicians since you really don’t need any other class (cept objectives).

(Dr_Tenma) #36

I plan to play Technician/Medic for sure, so I’ve thought about this a bit before.

Stroyent has to be harvested out of humans, at least thats the theory of it. There hasn’t been much official info announced. Mostly likely, the Tech has to choose between harvesting, or implanting a spawn host out of a GDF corpse but not both off a single body. Reviving dead Strogg is by the same needle tool, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes up stroyent to revive. The Medic’s abilities seem to all be freebies (power bar recharging passively), defibrillators have a power bar and so do medkits.

And of course you need the other classes (besides for objectives)! Soldier rockets look to be the most reliable way to kill air vehicles to me. And I don’t plan to get hammered by SSM’s constantly with no Engy defenses. Similarly, I wouldn’t want the advancing enemy to be spared of constant FOps strikes thinning them out :stuck_out_tongue:

(Ifurita) #37

It’ll be interesting to see what the Technician’s recharge mechanism is. If it is truely harvesting stroyent out of fall GDF soldiers, then this will hurt them when they’re on the defense and prove to be an interesting dynamic when on the attack.

(AnarchyAngel) #38

It does state in a few interview that GDF medics can call in supplies that are air dropped in. I assume that the Technican cant do this.

Also remember that the Technican has to first gather his stroydent from dead gdf, that is a chore on its own so most likely ammo and health will for the most part be in short supply. Thus the revive and spawn hosting is possible/warranted.

Also theres no word on if you suck a body dry of stroydent can you also use it as a spawn host?

Just a few things to consider.

(grizzlybear) #39

the opressor will steal your heart

and the constructor will spit-roast it over an open fire

or you can just e-mail it to your gf/bf for a valentines day card

this punny human heart was bought to you, fresh, by the strogg

once it was jumpin now its just pumpin

muhahahaaaaaaa!!!

to counteract this the gdf have been forbidden from falling in love with the strogg.
Not even a snog with a strogg !!! is the new war cry you will hear on the battlefield.

(Bongoboy) #40

Hanging around where airstrikes occur is not recommended, Tactical Shield or no Tactical Shield.
