strogg opressor.

(signofzeta) #1

I saw some videos where the strogg throws some black thing and that’s about it. I think a huge orange beam comes down from the sky afterwards, I don’t remember. Is this “similar” to the GDF’s airstrike? Also will this concept be taken out? I kinda like the concept of a laser making a huge thick line on the landscape.

I heard of the GDF deployables Hammer missile, rocket barrage, and that third one I don’t remember. Also they have airstrikes

Strogg have the plasma mortar, rail howitzer, and the big gun predecessor thing. I also heard, from old news that they have the orbital laser thing. Is this a deployable or a thing where you chuck some thing and it sends a signal to space so the mothership can shoot the huge laser?

So I’m saying will each team’s fire support class have 3 deployables where you can fire them with binoculars, and a non deployable where you cannot fire them with binoculars, but must throw some object and either spaceships or airplanes will do the damage? Of course their firing methods must be different. I always thought strogg never had a thrown “airstrike” like thing.

The GDF Field Ops can deploy an Artillery Gun turret, a Rocket Artillery Turret and the Hammer Launcher, and then use his Target Designator to, er, designate targets for them. He can also chuck an Airstrike Marker (a sort of smoke grenade) to call in, well, an Airstrike. He doesn’t need to deploy anything to get the Airstrike.

The Strogg Oppressor can deploy a Rail Howitzer turret, a Plasma Mortar turret and the Dark Matter Cannon, and then use his Target Designator to, you guessed it, designate targets for them. He can also chuck an Orbital Strike beacon, which activates the ‘Violator’ pillar-of-fire-from-sky. He doesn’t need to deploy anything to get the Orbital Strike.

The GDF Engineer and the Strogg Constructor can both deploy their team’s version of the Artillery Interceptor Turret. This will neutralise any incoming enemy fire support but not the Hammer Missile/Violator Orbital Strike. If you’re thinking that this encourages Field Ops and Oppressors to come down off hilltops and get into beacon-chucking range of enemy fire support deployables, you’d be right.

(kamikazee) #3

So it stops a GDF airstrike but not the Hammer, or is that a slight mistake?

(Bongoboy) #4

Edited for clarity:

That’s correct - Artillery Interceptor Turrets neutralise incoming fire from deployable artillery, but not airstrikes/orbital strikes.

(AKA Sneaky) #5

Can airstrike, orbital strike destroy turrets and missiles launcher?

Is there an initial limit of turrets per teams or a limit of class?

(Desoxy) #6

But you just said that the Hammer missile (which is a deployable) can’t be intercepted by the Shield Generator and the airstrike can… :tapir:

Afaik they do, I even heard that turrets take extra damage from airstrikes/violator oribtal strikes, is that correct? eyes devs :nag:

It’s one turret per player afaik.

Apologies if my previous answer was confusing. Too much/little coffee.

Yes, one deployable per player, and they disappear if you change class, so you can’t start off as Covert Ops, deploy a Radar, then change to Soldier and enjoy your previous incarnation’s Radar coverage. Deployables remain if you die and respawn, as long as you remain the same class.

Of course all this might change, but it does seem to be playing fairly solidly at the moment.

Quote of the year so far!

I find most sites say that the “Orbital laser” is a deployable that can be fired with binoculars, but that does not make sense because the concept of the orbital laser is that it comes from outer space. Now I know it is thrown like an airstrike canister.

I hope that SD does not take the violator orbital laser or the airstrike out for one of the teams because I like both concepts.

For those of you who tried the quakecon/E3 demo, how does the orbital strike beacon work? I know the airstrike canister emits blue smoke, now how does the strogg counterpart work? I’m thinking a small red laser hits the sky and the ship sends back a bigger orange laser. Maybe.

(phray) #10

all i remember was before you threw the designator there was a nifty green overlay on the ground pointing the direction that the laser would travel.

oh, and i remember the first time i had the violator go off near me i very nearly wet myself.

(SniperSteve) #11

Is it actually called an orbital strike now?

(AKA Sneaky) #12

Awesome.

(signofzeta) #13

You know what I would find funny?

If the orbital strike does make a huge black scar on the landscape, maybe I can make orbital laser strike art on the landscape.

(Dazzamac) #14

I remember having fun doin that with the orbital laser in Command & Conquer. Many a base has been wiped out leaving a D shaped crater.

(signofzeta) #15

if someone here can scorch the strogg logo with the orbital laser, that would be cool.

Does anyone know the rough shape of the orbital laser beacon?

I thought it was a rough “X” with a orange circle in the center. I couldn’t find that same video so I tried to find some others and I saw another thing which is a cylindrical thing that “Opressors”? hold. I couldn’t make out the class the guy was using.

I also saw a video in gamespot and the constructor’s “pliers” look like an insect grafted to his arm. Creeps me out.

One more question about the opressor.

I was wondering how will opressor be balanced to GDF field ops. Field ops can call in 4 kinds of fire support and has the ability to give ammo. Opressor also has 4 types of fire support but cannot give ammo. Doesn’t this make GDF field op stronger than Strogg opressor? Did I miss something and is there any more info on their abilites?

(kamikazee) #17

From what I remember, I think you are right concerning the abilities.

But why would one be stronger than the other? As long as they don’t run out of ammo, they are kind of equal in their abilities.

(AnarchyAngel) #18

You probably find to offset this that the oppressor does slightly more damage and the loss of ammo giving just goes to the Technican so he gives you health and ammo in one. Though we have to wait and see unless some one at SD can fill us in?

(Flesh) #19

Was thinking the same thing. It would be great if the devs would release more info about the classes and their abilities, or atleast answer some posts about them. Most of the info we have is pretty contradictory and incomplete - there are many diffrent FAQs on the web. Even the “Armies” part of the enemyteritory.com doesn’t give you much info, some of it is even outdated and incorrect. Since the devs did already release description of the classes I see no reason not to make that list complete and up to date by adding all the relevant info about the classes and their abilites.

(ayatollah) #20

I wouldn’t rely too much on that…SD don’t have much to do with it, if anything at all, its all Activision.
