Splash Damage - You better not do this!

(AnthonyDa) #201

L4D(2) is quite a good competitive game

(BioSnark) #202

Yes, please don’t.

Completely unbalanced weapons work fine in Borderlands.

(brbrbr) #203

better that, than craft “magical”, “unique” and “rare” equipment in WoW/Diablo style

p.s.
IMO :stuck_out_tongue:

(tokamak) #204

The gear is a deciding factor in WoW which pushes the skill away, that’s regrettable but at least that gear is obtained through the mechanics within the game.

PVE and PVP are two different things, the PVP in the game wasn’t a large focus and sometimes it was frustratingly imbalanced or laughably easy I would definitely be mad if SD made Borderlands-esque stats.

Gun imbalance though was part of the fun in Borderlands.

(Mad Hatter) #206

Steel Anarchy anyone? Ah, good times, good times…

(Yellow Steroid Puff) #207

I’m more concerned that Brink is affiliated with Bethesda.

Bethesda really dropped the ball with Fallout 3; a.k.a. the most bugged game in history:mad:. FO3 had, I believe, five expansions, and seven patches and they still couldn’t stop the game from constantly crashing to the desktop. I ended up putting my FO3 disk in the microwave. (Might as well get some sort of entertainment out of it.)

I don’t want to wait six months for a game to come out and then we have the same situation here. Not to mention dropping $49.95 on it and not being able to return it to the store. I’m hoping that Splash Damage’s presence will offset Bethesda’s bungling and Brink will be the awesome game we all hope for.

I wouldn’t worry too much. Fallout 3 is one of those open world games, and there’s always a lot more room for bugs. Brink is significantly less likely to have bugs simply because of its genre. Obviously all genres can have bug-ridden games, but, the chances for glitches are higher when the game world is larger and there’s that much freedom.

Plus, like you said, Splash Damage is there, and I’m sure they’ll pump out quality.

Is your microwave okay? I care about microwaves.

(tokamak) #209

Indeed, Fallout is huge and detailed while Brink is going for rigid mechanics and polished action.

It’s ok. I was throwing the microwave out anyway.

(Nikto) #211

you know, that could have been your computer, i didn’t have any bugs i can recall. nor did it crash even once.

(BioSnark) #212

I don’t recall bugs being a huge frustration in Fallout 3. More how bad the weapons were when not using vats. Good open world RPG though.

Correct. This was specified in the post I was responding to.

(.Chris.) #213

For one Bethesda aren’t making the game, two its iD’s game engine and three I only crashed about twice in fallout 3…

(madoule) #214

thats right, see for example DICE as dev for BF:BC2, ea’s just publishing and puttin the money on the table. same as artists and record companies.

(Thryd) #215

I adored Fallout 3, and still play it. Never ever had a problem with any bugs, if it ever crashed on me, it was because of my computer, since my computer always crashed too as it does on other games. Fallout: New Vegas tomorrow!!! HUZZAH!
You make it sound like Bethesda has made only bad games, fair enough Oblivion was a flop, but that (for me) was due to the fact it didn’t have enough wildlife or monsters. Other than that it was great. Morrowind was, I have to say one of the best games I have ever played, if you can see past the old graphics and the occasional bugs, so all I can say is that they have both made epic games, lets just hope this one stands above.

(Yellow Steroid Puff) #216

Um, ok.

I’ve had a few responses from people saying that they never had any technical problems with Fallout 3. I can’t tell if they’re lucky, joking, lying, or on drugs.

Fallout 3 is UNIVERSALLY panned as being one of the most bugged games in history. (At last count, I had found over a million internet pages of people desperately trying to fix the plethora of problems with that game.) People were actually starting class-action lawsuits against the company because of it. That fact is making me a bit nervous about the release of Brink. After all, if Bethesda can’t get a bug fixed with FIVE expansions and SEVEN patches, then they obviously don’t have very high quality standards. Again, I’m hoping Splash Damage will offset Bethesda’s incompetance.

P.S. I have a top of the line PC with all the bells and whistles, so trust me, FO3 wasn’t crashing because of my rig.

Just because you have a top of the line PC, doesn’t mean it’s immune to errors and crashes…

(Reanimator) #218

Secondly, Bethesda is PUBLISHING Brink. Learn the difference.

(brbrbr) #219

compared to WHAT ?
to TESIII ? to Daggerfall ?
or pesky console port like TESIV/Fable ?

(tokamak) #220

Compared to games like Brink and ET. The replay value in FO comes from the quantity in the game.
