Splash Damage - You better not do this!

(Mad Hatter) #181

Even if the preorder guns give someone a .0000000001% advantage over people who didn’t preorder, that still rounds down to 0. I’ll consider it a problem when and if something is introduced into the game that has an actual, noticable effect on gameplay. However, I trust Splash Damage (despite admittedly not knowing them for very long) enough to know that they will balance the crap out of Brink, which is why I’m not worried in the slightest.

By the way, is it weird that the smilies on this site creep me out a little?

(DarkangelUK) #182

You know what Mad Hatter, I’m gonna settle with you on that and leave it at that. The End Is Nigh preaching and doomsday over something so frivolous and insignificant is embarrassing, and i’m embarrassed that I got sucked into kiddies swings and roundabouts argument . It is what it is, and I too trust SD enough to know that a measly gun is most certainly not even resembling a smidgen of anything close to what would be considered a game breaker.

(light_sh4v0r) #183

Yes, I had that too when I first joined the official ETQW forum (RIP). You get used to them and you’ll see they’re pretty cool then

(tokamak) #184

The wink smiley is the worst haha.
Because there’s lot of randomness (random people, different mindset) in a pub. There might be new players messing around or people who don’t really want to play “seriously”. So balance wont really be a big issue for them.

I mean if you go into a pub for competition… you’re doing it wrong.
I see what you are saying but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t aim to make the game balanced just cause some times you may get people not fully knowing the game or playing properly.

I go into a public server to have fun, this isn’t happening when things are unbalanced.

In regards to the pre-order stuff, its not like you are pre-ordering a rocket launcher or a flame thrower or something which I think DA is trying to say? but this maybe very well the case next time around if the pre-order bonuses here are extremely popular which is what toko is worried about?

(tokamak) #186

That’s the summary yeah. I think the biggest discrepancy between our reasoning is practicism and principles.

(Apples) #187

I found a preorder site to get a flamethrower o_O : click-meh!

Anyway, nice utilisation of hull tokomat

(light_sh4v0r) #188

I don’t believe I just clicked xD

(SebaSOFT) #189

RickRoll’d as well

(Thryd) #190

You don’t seriously think they would do what Valve has done to TF2 in the recent update do you?

(tokamak) #191

What did Valve do to TF2? I haven’t been following that game for a while.

(Thryd) #192

Introduced a purchasing system, so if you had the money to spend, rather than waiting for it to “Magically” drop or for you to craft it, you could just buy it. They also introduced a set bonus system much like the tier pieces in WoW. Essentially, you have the money, your onto a winner now.

(tokamak) #193

Even though that is dodgey, selling faster progress doesn’t compare to selling exclusivity.

(Thryd) #194

You have a valid point there, and I can agree with both sides of the argument previously presented, but I do feel that it would be incredibly silly for any pre-purchasers to have a clear advantage over other players. Using TF2 was only an example, the ability to access weapons and hats that another person would have wait ages for only compares on a small scale. Yet, the person who has spent the money has a clear advantage, should they buy, say, the entire soldier set which has a bonus of increased health for example. I mean, what are the chances of unlocking an entire set without having to play the game for at least 50 hours?
I bought the new Medal of Honour Limited Ed, and that gives you access to two shotguns and I think an exclusive gun for the Spec Ops class in multiplayer. And that gun can only be used by the Americans. Personally, I don’t rate the game, it couldn’t hold me longer than it takes to demolish a packet of Custard Creams and the multiplayer sucked compared to BFBC2 and CoD. What I’m trying to say is that although Medal of Honour gave out a Weapon with the limited ed, it doesn’t mean its going to be any good, nor will everyone get on with it and as far as I can see, it made absolutely no difference in the game. Also, I feel that if you have taken an interest and pre-ordered Brink, I feel you should be entitled to an exclusive weapon skin, not neccessarily a new weapon.

(Reanimator) #195

Also Hat fortress 2’s, store isn’t all bad. Some of the proceeds go to people that made any of the hats included in the game, and they finally added a trading system.

(Thryd) #196

Surely the people who designed the hats will have been paid in the first place? Seems a bit extortionate from my point of view if they did. The trading system could have been added without the store anyway, it’s not like either of them cannot run without the other. Fair enough they may be running off the same module, but at the same time, there was no NEED for the store.

(Exedore) #197
Wow this discussion is awesome.

Splash Damage. Can you either
a) tell us if the preorder guns have different stats; or
b) lock this BS thread
a) can’t tell you all about this yet
b) but you’re all having so much fun!

(SockDog) #198

Okay. So how does everyone feel about being able to purchase exclusive weapons in a co-op game like L4D campaign? You wouldn’t exactly be getting an advantage over your team mates but it would bring multi tiered equipment levels based on actual purchases.

(tokamak) #199

It would cheapen the fun of a co-operative match as even there you want equality, but it’s not as bad as in competitive games.

(Thryd) #200

I would say that L4D is quite a competetive game myself, I’m always trying to beat everyone elses scores.
