Splash Damage is now an ironic representation of their injured reputation.
Thats great they won awards for a game that was not complete. The ones I posted were awards won for an actual finished product.

Brink did an excellent job of masking the terrible product that was to come.

I compare brink to a Lamborghini kit car. When you first saw it you thought it was the car of your dreams. Then when you finally took it for a ride you realized it was just a Pontiac Fiero under the hood.
sure thing!!

Brink was that chick that looked EXTREMELY HOT in the club cause of drunkenness(the hype),took her home(purchased the game),****ed her(played it for some hours),on the next morning it turns out she was MAD UGLY(buggy as ****)!

(donmichelangelo) #143

SD would have been bet better if they did a public beta test before they’d released Brink, so they could have had the chance to fix the major bugs before we spend 60 bucks for the game.

The way of the roll out of this game his certainly and highly not satisfactory…

(fearlessfox) #144

Linking to those awards like it proves anything other than SD are good with slight of hand? That’s a laugh.

(Shotgun Surgeon) #145

That’s a great way of putting it. But right now the plastic surgeons (SD) are going to work on her (patch it). However… to many (casual gamers) the damage is done. Never again.

(Shotgun Surgeon) #146

Damn fearlessfox what happened to you? You used to defend this game. Find a new drug?

Brink and BC2 are my two favourites right now. Both are wonderful games that have some annoying flaws.

However, Brink is slowly losing interest for me. There’s only so many times I can play a game that feels like I’m routed through mud (20mb down 2mb up - no other problems with any other games), unresponsive controls due to a shaky engine on the ps3, lack of content, and the fact that no one I know will even consider giving it a go.

I was trying to convince my friends to buy it, that the reviews were either slightly ignorant of what SD were trying to achieve or just looking for the wrong thing, that the game’s flaws would be patched soon and everything would be cool.

I almost had a couple, but just as I was about to hook them both whatever was making me so passionate about arguing Brink’s case just snuffled out.

I simply found myself logging in less, and I can’t pinpoint exactly why.

I’ve always been a little peeved at the state of the game on release, not the technical problems but the lack of content and the rather severe downgrade in aesthetics. I think I was just rose-tinted and over-excited about the game’s potential.

(sohei kuma) #148

They don’t want to create an environment of negativity? There is already a HUGE environment of negativity surrounding this game, from the reviews, to the word-of-mouth, to the angry purchasers, to the near complete lack of players in a game that is a few weeks old. They NEED to do damage control at this point, and they aren’t.

I want to wait for the patch to give SD a chance, but I’m afraid that this game won’t be worth jack if I don’t trade it in ASAP.

I’m sure this game will have a fine home on the PC for years to come, but it will die on consoles by the end of the month if something isn’t done. And if a game can’t sell on consoles, it doesn’t get released. That’s just a market reality.

You need to find more people online to play with. I have deleted most all my old COD friends (kept all the BFBC2 one though) cause they just stick with it and never even attempt to move on to anything else. Now have a strong healthy comunity of Brink players on my friends list. At evening and night times its no prob for me now to get full matches going with good fireteams and almsot everyone with a mic even whole games with all mics.

Just start to put out friend request to other good players or people you see often, I was seeing some guys day after day from match to match here and there and now we are all teamed up together with others and have great games everyday.

Also you just picked up BFBC2 which i and many others played for hundreds and some thouhsands of hours and it took 8months to get all the free dlc (8month mark was about when the final and first true new maps came out) and new game modes for maps not to mention the paid Vietnam DLC. You should have more then enough with that game to keep you going for a long long time, but those who played form day one felt lulls here and there where we barely touched the game because of lack of new content and such. It wil happen with any new game that is based on future dlc carrying it over the long haul. Hopefully SD will do better then DICE (or atleast not get sidetracked by Publishers on side projects like DICE did) and keep the conent comming at a constant rate to keep it fresh and new every few months.

I have, it’s not the same as playing with friends though. It’ll get better as I get to know them, but half the people I’ve met I don’t see logging into Brink anymore.

PSN population in the UK is sparse right now.

I adde some to my previous post about BFBC2 and why it is the way it is.

About people not there any more, i have had many like that also, they played for a few days or week and are now gone. I have been deleting them now also to replace with new friends of my new brink friends.
Like i said look for guys you see daily or fairly often, try to team up and together look for others to join and in no time you will have a decent group of team players. Some guys i have met are guys i am shocked i never ran into in other games as they are exactly my type of gamer and the kind i enjoy going to battle with.
Just make random fireteams every game and see what guys join and what guys have mics and stuff and start to invite the guys who you think would be worth playing with in the future and not just that day or specific match.

(fearlessfox) #152

This is a good idea if it works. I’ll give it a go later today, cheers man.

(Oschino1907) #153

Try playing BFCB2 on Rush and Conquest (my two fav modes i played the most) with randoms and no people squading up, half filled matches, no one with mics or groups of vets vs you and randoms exploiting everything cheap about the game. BFBC2 can be a total crap fest at times as well, been there and done that, but when you have a tight groups and multiple squads goin with friends it can be one of the best gaming experiances you can have in a team based fps. Like i said before the moments you have in BFBC2 are unmatchable but come at the cost of relying on others to come through for you, its possible to lone wolf to a degree but you are not winning the objective modes without other team members doing their jobs.

(ataliba) #154

I’m trying to play it right now… and it’s just sad ghost town…

(its al bout security) #155

i personally think it wasnt done even after 2 years, they just kept tweaking it, if it was left the way it was in trailersback in 09-10 it would have been fine, looked great and had some hint of a story

i think bethesda rushed them to finish and it was incomplete

and i can see this by the dlc coming so soon that the game was COMPLETLY unfinished, most companies cant make dlc from scratch in a month, and when near release on twitter i will try to replicate what was said without a direct quote -we have no plans of dlc any time close to now its not our focus- thats either bull or they just didnt have time to ram the rest of the content in.

and jess i have been reading these forums for months and you seem to be a go-to-veteran but most of the time you are just a whiner, moaner, complainer, and belittiler. the way most people see it if you disagree then dont put you head in the door, it might slam on you. :frowning:

(fearlessfox) #156

It’s a shame some choose to behave this way. Makes discussion here unpleasant at times.

(its al bout security) #157

here is what i think, the originall post is nailing iton the head and then -BLAM- people show up who try to “defend the game and all its glory” i understand to me its a F***ING GREAT GAME its the only game i have really played for more than 10 minutes (mostly hours upon hours) but then “veterans” pop their heads in and just attack the posts with totally unecissary opinion they just want to see their mostly unopinonated text posted on the forum with thier nice picture. i dont want to have to read this

i want to see a a thread with intelligent posts not some guy that just pops in and only says “i disagree” amd then just dip out of the thread all together to meet their post quota

regaurdless i agree the game at this time is broken but i am stickin it through till patches and dlc.

if this isnt fixed by that time i will make my 10th lvl 20 and then just sell the game by then it probably will have lost all my hope and it wont have any appeal to it by then (actually i am very close to 10 level 20s as is.)

Skipping over several pages to post this, so if I missed any really awesome posts I apologize.

Fox this is your best post yet bud. I’ve enjoyed your mature and well thought out (and grammatically correct) posts. I have seen Fox defend Brink with all the intellect, research, and facts a guy can muster. This post is no exception.

Funny thing is, I was really kind of in a “video game depression” after playing Brink. I hit level 20, completed all missions on both sides, did a few other things etc. But for the exact same reasons that Fox stated in his original post, Brink quickly lost its shine.

Ironic part is, I also picked up BFBC2 for the first time to break my FPS depression. I’m totally blown away. Like Fox said, a year old release that feels so new and fresh. Man i’m loving sniping in it to, and i’m a demon in a tank =D

Having said that, farewell to these forums as I need not return thanks to BC2. I think splash damage is well aware of the wants of the console community. We’ll see what this DLC has in store for us in June and the coming months after that. If SD takes too long to fix the majority of the issues however, Brink will become trade credit when the next good Gamestop trade promo comes up.

I certainly hope everyone enjoys Brink to its fullest potential. There are a lot of good things in Brink, and hopefully SD has earned enough revenue from Brink to make a killer sequel where they’ll have that chance to nail everything.

Good luck everyone and have fun. You can find me usually dieing horribly on the battlefield in Bad Company 2.

Shame to see you go Baker, but I understand entirely. I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be around either, but I’m sure the regular fans will celebrate our passing so at least /some/ good will have come from our time here. :stuck_out_tongue:

BC2 has flaws. I get stuck on bits of grass and sometimes a shotgun to the face leaves my opp with 88% health, but the overall experience is full and atmospheric and the amount of “holy ****” moments per minute is outstanding.

I hope hope hope that Brink can make a go of it as the foundation of it is my favourite shooter of all time. Until then, you’ll find me in Nelson Bay sneaking through the bushes with my shotgun and c4…

Have fun all the way over there on xbox dude.

If you picked up BFBC2 day one you would know it too suffered from problems and lack of content at launch, took 8 months for any real new maps and still to this day has its flaws. If everyone was like you BFBC2 wouldnt have the community and patches it has today that make it such a great game, people like me played from day one and stuck through it keeping the commnity strong when it took forever for content and patches. Many gave up and went back to other games or left all together. Yes i took some breaks at times because of bordem and new games comming out but it was still my main FPS the whole time.

And for already hitting level 20, why not make mroe characters, i already have 3 and plan to make more as i keep playing. No reason to stop just cause you hit 20, lol have fun in BFBC2 earning all your unlocks by the 20’s also and then grinding it out for a few hundred hours to reach level 50 with no more rewards outside of personal stats.
