Splash Damage how does it feel to go to work each morning?

(tangoliber) #41

I hate posting in this topic, because I hate to keep it on the 1st page… but I think Splash Damage should feel great going to work in the morning. I know it probably sucks that most people don’t seem to appreciate the game…but I am in awe of the design decisions.

There is a lot of technical issues with the game, and I don’t think that Splash Damage is all that strong of a studio from a technical standpoint… but I find the design of the game extremely well-thought out in every way. It really does seem that there are no cheap kills in this game. And the map design is so good that they must have scrapped a lot of attempts before arriving at this set of 8… 8 maps which would have been the most played maps in any other multiplayer game.
I think the “design” of the game is highly polished. It is only the technical side that needed polish.

I assume that’s the case, however it’s not a very good excuse. I write web applications, testing them on multiple browsers is standard practise.

(zenstar) #43

But if Bethesda handled the QA (and I’m not sure if they did or not) or even just allotted the allowed money for QA they could have hamstrung SD by not providing enough (QA or money for QA).

As a dev (business apps) I know that code that is 100% stable when I check it in to the source control is broken by QAs all the time. That’s why I hate QAs so much. They’re always breaking my code and making me fix it. They broke it! why don’t they fix it?

:stroggbanana:

If I worked at SD I think I would feel so miserable that I would probably not visit the forums anymore.
hmmmmmmm

I see the devs in the online user lists all the time and if you visit their profiles you’ll see them reading tons of threads, even the hate ones. They read everything but all of their replies need to be approved by Bethesda which is why we don’t always see instant dev responses.

Wait, what?

(Jess Alon) #47

How does anyone feel working in any corporate environment where they have a bunch of suits looking over their shoulders cramping their style? Probably sucks somewhat but at least you get paid to do what you love even though you’re doing it for a bunch of self-entitled spoiled children.

(Herandar) #48

I think the approvers are selected SD employees, actually. But yes, all posts on this forum by employees are screened before they are visible to the public.

Now that the game has been released, I hope that they don’t have to do this any more.

(tokamak) #49

When an SD member posts a comment they will be hidden and pending approval. It takes someone up high (or badman?) to approve the comment.

It’s not that they’re afraid of co-workers slacking of the game or the company, it’s just to prevent accidental leaking.

(Tatercakes) #50

well i am anoyed with the wey this compition scene is going in brink you all need to FOCUS my team quit do to LACK OF pvp content boring all the same over and over and over one mode of fighting and competing hmnn bugs hacks you guys boasted a lot and me a hard core pvp mofo that i am stuck it out and still will but i find a lot of work to be done before this game is so called ready for comps liek it is get to work or you will loose a lot of players or you can ignore and then be wnakers and find out in the end

(Aristotle) #51

I understand that, but I don’t think Bethesda has to approve any of the SD posts on the SD site as xzen said.

(Herandar) #52

Struggling to figure this post out.

(Aristotle) #53

I think he’s saying he wants TDM and DM options for competition because doing objectives is apparently too difficult for him and his team mates.

He’s also a super good competitive players, or at least that’s what I think he meant from “hard core pvp mofo”.

But yes, real English helps, or at least an amount of it that people can actually understand what you want.

(Kurushi) #54

So the game probably got released a bit early but nothing game breaking occurred. The core game is solid - that’s all that matters. The rest can be easily patched as we’ve seen SD do a great job on so far.

Right now they probably want a rest after all their hard work but they seem more focussed on patching so why complain?

As for ETQW, the beta and retail was in great shape so I don’t know what you’re talking about

ETQW got slammed harder than brink is getting now when the beta came out. As hard as that is to believe if you can find the old beta forums at gamespy give them a look.

(Darksider) #56
Isn’t it also up to MS and Sony to green-light the release of a game on their platform as well? I’m sure the perceived final version gets sent to them for testing, and they’ll either report issues or give the go ahead.

I am in no way disputing that there are issues, but as I’ve always said, simply laying the blame solely on SD just isn’t fair… not fair at all.
yes, the game pass their testing protocols…

(Nail) #57

funsize is an Activision employee paid to troll forums

makes as much sense as anything he said

Of course objectives are too difficult for him if he can’t even master punctuation or capitalization.
Seriously, that post was painful to even attempt to read.
I hope they feel really bad that they took Bethesduuurrrr as the publisher.

Now they have to deal with the consequences.

I hope you fell REALLY bad SD.You betrayed me and ALOT of other people.

Your interviews how GREAT this game is and how it will revolutionise the FPS Genre.
Everything was a lie.Did Paul Wedgwood took some acting lessons before he made all the interviews?
Congratulations. you believed the press releases, and then, when you realised they didn’t turn out to be entirely true, you assume that SD is the only developer to have ever done such a thing (although I don’t mind brink to be perfectly honest).

I didn’t feel betrayed in slightest. all people making and then trying to sell a product, whether they are in the video game industry or not, try and big up their product in some way.

Perhaps you shouldn’t be blaming SD. Maybe you should be blaming your own naivety and gullibility instead.

also google “buzzwords”, idiot.

(Brink Lags) #60

Wait, didn’t Bethesda give them an extra YEAR to polish the game? Pretty sure they did. Bethesda probably saw what they did with that year and said, “Splash Damage has scammed us and wants us to pay them for yet another year of development. Let’s just dump this turd and move on.”.

SD lied to everyone.
